What I like the most about this new transformation is that we actually tackle the man, instead of corralling all day.

Manic attack but also smarter attack so we don't over commit OR we have a second tackler lurking if the player gets away. Not many getting away though and that is all down to focus and commitment.

Living in Adelaide I dont get to see much footy live these days but one thing that stood out for me the last time the Blues were here was that one S White can kick a footy. Sure we got done by over 100 pts that day, but the few positives for me were White's kicking, Casboult & Rowe (our BOG).
When he kicks the footy it is like the air is being belted out of it, rather than some dainty dinky pass.
Anyway, go blues.

Yes. Is it our team defence that allows this to happen? I mean corralling is a method of containment without overcommitting - tackle the player and he gets the ball off to a team mate running past, our team defence , now has that player running past covered as well, so that you now can commit to a tackle

I find in the past white's issues were more to do with decision making. Be it making the wrong one or taking too long to make the right one. He wasn't scared to back himself and take chances Sunday and that showed

And our tackles look like they are intended to hurt the opposition...

Team defensive structures behind the contest is the biggest difference, gives the guys around the contest much more confidence to pressure and tackle if they know others have their back behind them.

Our midfield and half forward line really get involved in transition defensively now under Bolton.

Smothers come under the 1 percenters category but they are so valuable.

With each smother you could see our boys lift and the Cats drop their heads.

And the crowd roar after a smother is incredible!
Spot on "MightyMighties"

Smothers are the most underrated skill in footy (at any level).
It takes courage and sets an example for the team to give all.

He kept going on about our woeful list and it's only a change of coach that's made a difference so I came back with:
@RyanBuckland7 If the list is as woeful as you believe, and are at 5/5 with that list, then after changes they'd be looking top 6 in 2017?
He has responded (though not directly to my tweet) saying he'll write another article about Carlton in next few weeks.
Gee, how will I sleep till then?

I FINALLY got the chance to watch the game, my laptop couldn't charge.

Seeing as most of what I think has already probably been said in here better, I will confine what I say here to two players, Walker and Kerridge.

Walker will tear a game apart in the next month. He just moved so much better; has a little of his pace back, knew where to go and when to get there. I saw through this thread that some were irritated that he flew at marks in front of the contested players; if you pay attention, so did Kruezer, Casboult and Everitt at different times during the match. Walker is the impossible matchup when he is on because he can leap so high at the ball, can rove the ball at pace, and can beat the lead. For him to be leaping to mark is such a good sign, as it indicates he has renewed faith that his body can take it.

Kerridge didn't get as much of the ball as he can, but no-one in the side tackled as hard as consistently as he did. Every opportunity he had, every tackle he laid, he absolutely crunched his opponent, to the point where if they saw him coming they got rid of the ball too quickly or just shat themselves. As a side we tackled extremely well against Geelong, but we need to recognise when a player has such an influence on the game as he did. Every player Geelong fielded felt the influence of our referred pressure; they heard footsteps, they handpassed/kicked half volleys at teammates. Well done Sam, keep building into the year.

I only just got around to watching Scott's press conference today and the arrogance is almost unsettling.

Fair enough Geelong weren't at their best, but to give zero credit to Carlton and Collingwood after dismantling them two weeks in a row is asinine. Seems Geelong don't rate any other teams and only value finding ways to propel themselves, rather than methodically shutting down other teams; a pretty fundamental aspect of coaching. Perhaps the criticism of the group getting ahead of themselves could also be directed his way. He seemed genuinely baffled and out of answers.

I know I'd be very disappointed if Bolton put the blame squarely on the team and patronised the opposition in his press conferences. I've never loved or hated Geelong but enjoyed their run up to 2011, when they were defined by their work-rate, their attacking game-plan and their camaraderie. I think they're starting to get a reality check as to how easily they can be out-worked and teams are going to start seeing the cracks appear.

I've been down on Ed in the past... But glory be me if that wasn't one the most committed, intense, balls out performances I've ever seen in a blues jumper. He brings that every week and no one will care about his disposal
He DOES bring it every week.

High time everyone sat up and took notice.

The Geebungs have tried to do a Hawthorn and top up with experienced players... however, Hawthorn started doing that while all their stars were younger and more able. Now they are getting older, Hawthorn have topped up with a good balance of youth and experience. Geelong has allowed most of their experience to retire over the last couple of years and they have decided to try and top up to push for another premiership.

But I think that they left their push a bit late.

On the road on Sunday listening to the boys on the radio and really pleased with what I heard.
Just got a chance to watch the game - loved the endeavour and the heart with 2 men down early

Things I enjoyed:
- tackling: the best I have seen a Blues team tackle in years, great pressure and led to the Cats fluffing a lot
- inside 50s: still a few times we blazed away (maybe exhaustion?) but I felt at times we had a system, it even appeared we had big fellows providing/or trying to provide protection in marking contests and Cripps to Everitt was something I hadn't seen in a while- a leading forward being hit inside50 even after the defense had setup
- mids - Gibbs was sensational, Curnow was a like a rabid dog but a greyhound running the other way, Cripps struggled on the inside with Blicavs nullifying him but he will learn from that, good to see he changed his game up and had 8 I50's for the game
- run and carry: Armfield was sensational, Docherty and Simmo are on fire, they have been given a licence and it is great footy to watch
- the big fellas: Kreuzer - gotta love the big fella, Rowe - beaten early but love the fight back, Casboult - got his hands on a lot of balls but they wouldn't stick, but I reckon he put the wind up a few guys down back for the Cats (combined with our manic trackling)

Carn the Blues
