I distinctly remember these issues arising (bad gameplan, inability to control the ball) when Mitchell was still a swan.

Has something magically happened to him at hawthorn to make the him the GOAT ?

This.

We're actually excellent starters.

2012 Won the first 3 games
2013 Won the first 3 games
2014 Won 1 of the first 3 games
2015 Won the first 3 games
2016 Won the first 3 games
2017 Won 0 of the first 3 games
2018 Won 1 out of the first 2 games

That's 14/20 games we've won.

Don't know where this myth of being poor starters came from.

Thats misleading as GWS and GC were shit in the early years.

That % increases dramatically if I'm at the club... just sayin.

2012 Won the first 5 games

His Biggest problem is a massive handicap to the side. He is a midfielder part time small forward which tells you his main task is the ball at ground level. Every time he is in a situation where he is over the ball he wants to turn and roll to his left side to protect his biggest deficiency. No opposite side skills. Every single time this happens it allows that split second for the opposition to apply the tackle and stop the quick give up from the ground to an outside option. This always looks like he can't bend to collect the ball cleanly, makes him look extremely slow because it is a double action by propping and turning then bending and rightly or wrongly like you say looks like he is rapidly on the decline.

A bit like Bud!
No right side.;)

I had us 2 & 4 after 6 games when the fixture came out.
Losing to Port, who I had playing off in tbe GF this season, is no shock to me.
Nor was it that we struggled at the SCG, a much smaller ground that we seem to not prefer these days with Buddy roaming arou d.

We only played the suns once in those first 5 games,

and with GWS the record is 4-2
don't let the stats get in the way of a good story mate, Or there would only be a handful of posts on this board

Well knock me down with a feather!

We are slow starters in the sense that we don't play as well as we would in the middle/late season. But our slow starts after the Roos era have been more than good enough to notch up early grinding wins anyway. Except last year of course.

That’s ideally want you want though. Peaking at the right time of year.

He's playing under a good coach for a start.

I dont see how we win this one. Rampe is out form, smith is smith, grundy was non competitive, melican showed his experience and age.

Cameron and patton will be licking their lips

Not to mention the time delay between taking possession, his brain and getting the ball into a position to dispose of it. Don't get me wrong I like his effort as I do Hewitt and Towers and Fox and Cunningham and ok I'll stop now. We have too many that give great effort but are no danger to our opposition. Franklin aside who hurts the opposition ? Our Accumulators who have the skills of a Park Football Reserves side ?
