Minimal changes this week it seems - lets hope we even up the ledger ahead of some (in theory) easier games over the following month (where we could start resting players - but not at 0-2?).

Stewart out for Bowes
Whyte sub (debut) for Parfitt (who needs a full game run in the VFL)

Whyte will be mostly about reward for effort but also a mind to have extra back option in case we want to release 2E and Bowes up the ground (both of them can play mid or forward therefore Whyte as sub provides more flexibility to the team than Parf who really can only play mid)

Selection integrity obviously is very important and I think even more so after a premiership year. Brad Close should be a watch after his non ‘ you’re hot you’re hot kick it kick it’ to Ollie Henry running into an open goal.. That was mentioned to Scott in the presser by Rohan Connelly and Scott said it was round 1 rustiness… We can’t get into the habit of giving players an ‘out’ just because of last year’s performance…
Parfitt was not AFL ready last week… and the whole midfield lowered their colors ..so they need to lift!

With respect Close has some many credits in the Bank from last season I seriously doubt he'll be on any watch list any time soon.
On Henry he was the architect of his own undoing , Close and the other Geelong player would have expected him to kick it much sooner , instead he shapes to kick then runs a few steps further into trouble. One thing we know though is we will learn from that.

After hearing what Cameron said on that podcast sounds like the grog was flowing until mid Feb, no shock some looked lethargic… might take another month to get that all out of their system
That comment is appalling if any truth..
That type of preparation takes a hell of o lot of undoing. A true example of dedication to the task, and coming into this season fully primed- not.!!!
And yet people question a comment that we may be 1-2% off our very best...

Keep in mind too Jezza may be on baby duty this week unless ive missed an announcement - so bring in the NEALE!

Chris Scott has announced that both Jack Bowes and Cooper Whyte will debut in Cats colours on Thursday night against Carlton at the MCG.

Whyte, a left-footed midfielder who is tough in the contest with a touch of flair, was taken with the 64th selection in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.

"It's really exciting for us this week, we'll have a couple of players play their first game for the Cats," Scott told media on Wednesday morning.

"Cooper Whyte will come in as a young player making his AFL debut and Jack Bowes will play as well. So they're the ins, and (Tom) Stewart is the out.

"We're not ready to communicate the other out at the moment. In any case, I'd rather focus on the exciting part"

Bowes’ Geelong debut was forecast by Scott last week and assistant coach Shaun Grigg on the To The Final Bell podcast on Monday, following 83 games with the Gold Coast Suns.

He was reportedly close to playing against the Magpies last Friday but was held back with a minor calf complaint, but got through half a game in the VFL last Saturday unscathed.

Bowes and Whyte will be the 1107th and 1108th players to pull on the Hoops for the Cats respectively.

I’m sorry, I was being a bit over the top…. He said they went hard, I assume he meant October most likely, surely no longer than that!

would hope so- we know that CS & MC are very generous with allowing players lots of freedom away from the club, as long as they do not discredit themselves and the club.

Maybe someone showboating isnt something that even crossed his mind being a rookie pick that had to scrap all his career (as opposed to first-rounder henry).

Hawkins was there too
Why don’t you stick the boots into him too

He was.

But as Farmer2Goggin said, Ollie shaped to kick it then decided to take a couple of extra steps.

In the split second it took Hawkins and Close to process what they were seeing it was all over. They simply didn't get time to yell 'hot!'

Ollie should've gone with his first instinct. He'll learn.

Even if they did... the roar was that loud he wouldn't have heard a thing...

Good to see Cooper Whyte come in. I wonder if the change in the sub rule changes our preference not to have the sub be a debutante. He does seem pretty versatile and coming into the game half way through the 3rd could be an ideal introduction. Much better than the injury sub where you risk them not getting on the field.

Wherever he's played I hope he does well! Interesting that he's getting a game before Dempsey or Knevitt who got games last year.

Who's the second out Scott didn't want to reveal today?

Stengle?
No mention of the other out but I suspect it's a defender as they generally replace like for like and back their structure in.

So if that's the case, I'm leaning towards SDK not having completely passed a fitness test. Can't think of anyone else in the "dropped" category, but Parfitt would be a name that perhaps springs to mind even though he was the sub and played primarily as a mid. Bowes also earmarked to spend time off half back and through the midfield so Parfitt looking like the obvious out.

My comment was more of if your going to get stuck into close do it to Hawkins too
I agree with everything said by yourself and f2g

SDK reportedly a confirmed starter:
