Have a look at the season as a whole for all sides, not many the are playing 4 quarters of footy

Yeah its almost as if there is an opposing force deliberately trying to prevent them from playing 4 quarters of footy, trying to prevent them from implementing their plans at every opportunity and trying to deny them the ball as much as possible!!!

Anyone watching yesterday should have been able to see that we weren't going to have the game on our terms like we did in the first quarter and a bit for the whole game against a team like the Hawks (who looked pretty good against the Cats on Monday IMO)

I was furiously texting and being texted by fellow carlton supporters in the first quarter. Plowman was an absolute disaster from the get go.

I'm normally fair and balanced with most players - will chastise or praise objectively and I just did not see the issues with Plowman and thought he was being infaurly maligned.

I would BEG to have Mullet or O'Shea back over the performance of Plowman yesterday. Seriously I am prepared to give the guy another go based solely on the idea that it is incomprehensible that someone could have such a bad game.

From whoa to go - it was bad.
Are you Stevie Wonder?

I thought football was played in a vacuum against no opposition? Seems like it from many posts here.

What about the countless missed tackles that lead to either a goal or a shot on goal.

I counted 4 in the second half off the top of my head.

Simply put, he's not strong enough for the big guys and not fast enough for the smalls, I've had doubts for a while now but yesterday they were expedited exponentially. The stat sheet hides what a truly horrid game he played.

He is ranked equal 5th at the club for total tackles this year. He is also ranked 3 for 1%ers while his 11 clangers are 17 behind the club leader Patrick Cripps.

I think the issue is you are looking for every missed tackle.

OMG, Getting in the office this morning and trying to get thru 45 pages of this stuff.
I guess it's cathartic. I too am gutted, really really hurt & disappointed.
The way I see it, everything went our way in the first half. It was champagne footy, and we got all the lucky breaks and playing with a sense of offensive freedom, the ball movement was sublime.
And we know Hawks were always going to come.
The second half, just didn't have the same intensity. I'm not going to single out players, and yes there was some pathetic execution and decision making.
The moment I saw Simpson walk the boundary line and I had this sickening feeling....Oh No..
We clearly missed his presence and leadership in the back.
Umpires were not great. They missed a few obvious infringements against Harry. But not blaming Umps.
We hate losing when we are up more than 5 goals. But down 3 players makes it tough.
I went in this year wanting to enjoy say 7-9 wins. Knowing we're not playing finals.
And we might still get 7-9 wins. Which I will cherish. But what I do see is the future.
With all best players in and some key FAs. I see us playing finals next year.
I think we all take some joy with that prospect.
But the losses, especially like yesterday still hurt like hell.
Please win next week :thumbsu:

to me plowman has been servicable for most of his time as a blue.

but now that marchbank is back and healthy he's a 4th tall but he's having to guard smaller opponents and he's not overmatched but against the elite small forwards i'm not sure he's quite quick enough at ground level.

i'm not saying he should be dropped but it's certainly an area that opposition sides would look at and believe they could get an advantage. FWIW wingard and bruest are right a the pointy end of elite small forwards in the league. i expect no such trouble from north this week.

We were taught a lesson on mental toughness today, they kept at us and at us with effort and with about 10 minutes to go in the second quarter we took the foot off and from then on it looked like the inevitable. Our consistency failed, players who were hot early like Dow and SPS went missing, the in game injuries didn't help but despite all this we defended with effort and when we started to have a go later in the game nearly pinched it.

Forward line needs to get tough. We're a bit soft. The amount of marks they took, little guys like Impey taking marks amongst the pack when the game was on the line should simply not happen.

The quality of our forward entries dwindled, we went back to high up and unders.

But we proved we can play good footy, just unable to sustain it.

Thomas - He adds a toughness we lack. He really goes hard at the footy and is great with his short kicking, really loving the footy he is playing this season. Was massive when we were being dominated.

Curnow - Thought his effort was great and he really put in.

Cripps - Looked to struggle to chase and run defensively but he had a solid game.

SPS - His best is really good and he's good with ball in hand but it's a matter of staying in the contest. Liked his game.

Fisher - Really like how he's playing, fast, nimble and does so much right.

Murphy - He's hardly relevant anymore. Avoids body contact, doesn't go when he has to go and has to take contact. Butchers the ball a lot. Kicks around corners a lot for someone who can not kick around corners. He's gone soft. Gets a bit of it through experience but isn't damaging. It's a shame his attack on the contest doesn't mirror Thomas. Missed an absolute sitter when the game was in the balance, kicking around the corner.

Kreuzer - Was really good then he went off injured. Big part of our downfall. Not sure he is reliable enough to be our ruckman for much longer.

Weitering - Thought he played well, he's been consistent this year.

Plowman - Played ok but made mistakes and was exposed for being too damn slow at times.

Jones - Not as good as he has been, made some really poor decisions but his game overall was good.

Walsh - Thought he was great, his efforts are second to none.

Newman - he was good, then he was injured and that hurt.

Cuningham - Did some nice things, kicked a nice goal, it was just an ok game.

Silvagni - Started like a house on fire then drifted out of the game. Needs to develop some real mongeral, he's too nice, had the opportunity to take a grab and clean up Impey, did neither.

McKay - Thought he was just ordinary. Did some nice things but wen't missing a lot and got out marked a couple of times.

Dow - Started great and disappeared. Needs to develop consistency and he will with maturity.

McGovern - Looked great at times, want to see more leading and marking and we did but not enough. I don't think he's anywhere near fit enough.

Gibbons - Kept nearly doing some good things and is ok up the ground but he's not damaging with his kicking.

Casboult - provided very little. Didn't take many marks, just did his role which made his day ok but nothing to write him about.

O'Brien - Think he had a defensive job, was ok with the ball at times but he didn't stand out.

Marchbank - Didn't do a lot, butchered it by foot, his kicking is a genuine concern.

Simpson - Him going down was a massive loss for us.

So close and a big chance to get a win next week. Just need to keep improving and polish things up. Today was a good lesson in terms of attitude. Take the foot off the intensity and pressure peddle and you will lose.
Under-appreciated contribution.

He is going at 85.6% DE so far this year and has averaged 2.5 turnovers a game and 1.8 clangers while also picking up 7.8 intercepts.

I think your definition of "constantly" may need some work.

Turnovers and clangers only count if he has a possesion right? Because I can understand looking at the stat line and saying he's not doing too bad, but there's so many moments when he's not in possession where he does dumb things.

Well said. Now get some work done........:D

Jeez the doom and gloom from some here.

We lost Simmo at half time and Newman not long later, two of our most experienced flankers, not to mention that Marchbank was having trouble getting his hands on it. The backline then becomes unbalanced and under siege and, yes, they made a few mistakes but that's hardly to be unexpected.

We then lose Kruezer for much of the last quarter, not sure what people expect to happen when that all happens.

Me, I thought that was probably enough to constitute a 5 goal loss but if that guy that presses the siren sneezes before it Harry has a kick to win the game after the siren.

I'm not the most positive poster on all things list related on this board but I was stoked that we got that close the way the cards fell.

Carlton play a great first half and then feel they've worked hard enough and take their foot off the pedal.
Carlton still haven't got the message that to be a good team and win games ... you have to play 4 quarters, not just 2.

The 'honourable losses' continue .... Sorry, I'm done with excuses
Ok bye then....or do you have more to say...maybe something less silly?

Had one good game (last week) and poor every other game. Who else is there though?

I was watching him at training and then the way he interacted with the supporters, even what he did during the game yesterday. He just came across as a bit egotistical and like he was some A grade star, show off. My option only.

If you listen to Clarko...it was his senior players that lifted. The very thing we have too few of.

Clangers also include things like giving a way a free kick so not only when he has a possession.

But of these moments you speak of, what exactly are they?

McKay might be able to ruck when he builds his tank more. Maybe 2020 after another preseason.
Good point, with his speed if he learnt the ruck craft would be unbeatable.
