Re: Rd. 7 St.Kilda v Carlton Monday 14th. May 7.40pm @ Etihad

The comment was it was a no brainer to pick him up. When he kicked 7 goals in the manner he did for the Bullants everyone knew about him. Sheedy traveled all the way Cramer street to watch him. Carlton had no preferential claim to him so he was never coming to Carlton.

Maybe if Betts, Garlett and Kerr weren't on our list we would have rookied him at the end of 2010 before there was any interest.

All I know is that watching 3 games of VFL last year - and his class was evident - I didn't watch any games in 2010 - as I was living OS at the time. I don't know who Kerr is - like a whole bunch of other players who never seem to play at Carlton at the moment - 30% are injured and most of them have never played firsts, as far as seconds go - this forum is full of talk regarding Bootsma and Buckley - who are still boys. A bunch of more mature bodies are injured - always...injured.

if you are saying his class only emerged last year - so too late to lock him in that is understandable - of course that would be nonsense - but understandable nonsense.

Re Saad, it's a bit like Robin Nahas.

Nahas impressed in the VFL but there were question marks about his impact at AFL level. He's been a handy pickup for the Tiges but no superstar.

Neither Nahas nor Saad would get a game ahead of Jeff or Eddie so it boils down to rookie-ing small forwards for depth or midfielders who like a goal.

Re: Rd. 7 St.Kilda v Carlton Monday 14th. May 7.40pm @ Etihad

Irrelevant when he'd been playing with the Bullants for years.

Perhaps you dont fully understand how the draft system works? A player cannot be drafted unless he nominates for the draft. The moment he does, any team can select him with their next available pick. Any team, regardless of his personal preferences, where he has trained or played previously or who may or may not claim an interest in drafting him. If he is available at your pick and you want to pick him its done.

Perhaps you dont know that he did not in fact make it to the draft, he was prelisted by GWS (a concession offered to them in their first 2 seasons in order to give them a comparative advantage to help them compete more evenly with the more established clubs) in order to be on traded to the Saints. And perhaps you have some advise for the club on who or what pick we ought to have traded to GWS in order to secure Saad? Please do enlighten us if you do.

Just reserved my seats behind our interchange bench. Will be getting stuck into Gibbs if he isnt coming off the ground nackered like Judd.

What a stupid thing to say.
Gibbs will more than likely play off half back the whole night where as Juddy will spend pretty much the whole game in the middle. Juddy will be running/sprinting the majority of the time he is on the ground where as Gibbs will be stationary/walking/sprinting.

Judd would probably clock up 18-20kms a game where Gibbs would be lucky to reach 8-10kms.

Does anyone know the exact amount of AFL members tickets allocated at Etihad? seem to sell out weeks in advance of games

I am led to believe that there is a section of only about 3,000 AFL members seats at Etihad Stadium but that info could be wrong.

How long has this draft that you speak of been around for 40???:D

Re: Rd. 7 St.Kilda v Carlton Monday 14th. May 7.40pm @ Etihad

You seriously think Jamison isn't the perfect match-up for Kosi?

Big height difference and if Kosi is taking one grab contested marks like he did the other night I think that makes for some imperfection in the match up, yes. However Kosi in his usual form is no match for Jamo at all I agree.

Someone has sensibly pointed out the lack of opposition he had vs Hawks, even so he was seeing the ball very well.

Just sayin.

Seriously, did you see the pathetic attempts to spoil or put any pressure on him from the undersized Hawthorn spuds?

Jamo will cut him up.

Saad nominated for the draft on numerous occassions, Carlton were not interested in him. My point is, it's irrelevant to say that we had no chance of getting him because GWS had a higher draft pick than us when we had not been interested in him for the years beforehand when he had nominated for the draft.

I know for a fact that Saad was seriously considered at the end of 2010 for a rookie spot in our line up, however he wasn't selected for one reason or another (my guess is that it was probably due to the fact that we already had Betts, Garlett and the thinking at the time was that he would never be able to make it as anything other than a small forward at AFL level).

Towards the end of 2011 - Carlton (and Ahmed himself) were resigned to the fact that he was going to be snapped up by GWS. He was watched closely by their recruiting team and by Sheedy himself who attended a number of his Bullants games. However, they thought it better to get a 'top ended' talent via St. Kilda's Pick 20 and waved away their rights to Ahmed.

I think he might have been a chance to one day play for Carlton had he gone up to GWS (and eventually wanted to to return to his family in Victoria) however now that he's a Saint, I don't think thats an option anymore.

There's no use crying over spilt milk - we had our chance to select him, we chose not to.

Story Completion, Control Alt Deletion.

Oh I see what you are saying now, why were we not interested in him 5 years ago before his family left Egypt and he had not yet started playing AFL, I mean, it must have been clear to someone that he would one day have potential??:rolleyes:

He had a break out year in the VFL last year, he is still not proven at AFL level but good luck to him, but please, how can recruiters guess someone might make it, when they already have players on the list that ARE making it? Its ok to speculate when you have deficiency but when you already have listed players more than covering the same role?

Not only is the AFL reserve only 3000 seats at this sh!thole, but for some reason the AFL releases tickets for games at this stadium in monthly blocks and people tend to snap them up for the entire month in advance upon release. Well, at least for the bigger games. For someone like me who doesn’t know if he can make a game until on the day itself it makes obtaining a seat in this reserve virtually impossible. And for the ever-increasing price of my membership I hardly think this service is acceptable

I could be a sheep like the rest and book a month in advance but without knowing I can get to every game I would rather be considerate to others and leave seats available to those who can attend. AFAIC, the AFL should represent its members better and negotiate for a larger reserve for AFL members. It isn't good enough

MCC memebers also get access to this allocation but only 1 week before the game.

When was the last time Kosi put 2 games together?

Just askin.

Re: Rd. 7 St.Kilda v Carlton Monday 14th. May 7.40pm @ Etihad

Does anyone know where to find a good pub to drink after the game? Pre-game frothbags at Bang are a certainty, not to mention a hearty game of drop cup at aisle 41, but it's just hard to see what will be open post-game on a Monday night, aside from the Casino. I guess it's why it's such a stinking timeslot.
And that's before you consider the bleary eyed disgrace I'll be at work on Tuesday morning..

He's been pretty good all season to be honest, not just last game. Knowing him though, he could easily have a shocker this week. But signs have been good all year, not just vs the Hawks.

Correct in assuming our squad will be named friday at 5.00pm with final 22 Saturday?

Re: Rd. 7 St.Kilda v Carlton Monday 14th. May 7.40pm @ Etihad

Is the squad named tonight?

As for every other week.
Squad of 25 tonight with final squad named tomorrow @ 5pm.

If we're prepared to make the call on Yarran being out tonight, then we'll have three inclusions with no outs.
If Yarran is in then one will be ousted tonight.

I highly doubt the final 22 will be named tomorrow. Will be Saturday around 5pm as all other Monday games are. Not sure of when the squad will be announced (either today or tomorrow)

Apologies as I may be wrong.
Just don't recall how it plays out for Monday games, but I do think we have to call our 25 man squad tonight.
