I see AFLvic are canning Interleague, I wonder if the RDFL will pursue a game against another league like some other leagues are doing off their own back.

No word about fixtures or finals setup, I guess they would have had to have co tacked clubs for cap reasons if we were gonna have an 18 game season?

Ya’d like to think HQ would’ve contacted the clubs if they were going to a 18 game season, as most club would’ve re-signed players on a 16 game fixture. I agree with an 18 game season as it’s the fairest draw.

HQ usually ratify fixture at their agm but I’d be surprised if they’ve given any clubs feedback atm on which way it’s going.

What a load of bullshit typical pull the bat out and whack when it’s to late Goldfields need to look in there own back yard first Typical crap response

It was obviously disappointing to lose Broadford, we thought we did all we could to help them survive in our competition and remain viable long-term,” he said.
“I think the ship had sailed for them, they made some poor financial decisions in years past and weren’t willing to stick it out like some clubs have.
what a load of rubbish.....
good luck broadford gutsy move

"Goldfields need to look in their own backyard first" - care to explain this?

Just to put a pause on the pile on mentality, the closest comps to the RDFL being the EDFL and WRFL all have less teams or exactly the same amount. Nothing wrong with a ten team structure at all.

Finals structure is rightly being reviewed with consultation from all clubs. This seems the right way to approach things when something changes.

You would find it difficult to get a change to the season length at this late point due to salary cap constraints and contracts already being signed. Most of the clubs generally vote against a longer season due to volunteer work load.

No need just look at the front yard it’s run by the backyard RDFNL has become a weaker comp since they took over It’s funny how when a club moves on there got somthing to say perhaps some action when it’s really needed 2021 looking to expand might be only 8 clubs by then

The RDFL has been around a longtime Dave G !!!! Your a bandwagon man and jumps off when the going gets tough. eg, Jumped off the Romsey bandwagon then on to the Broadford bandwagon, where were you when they had there tough times.................YES that's right ,you went into your dungeon grab your keyboard looking for someone else to blame!!!!! Did someone from the RDFL steal your candy???? Whinge Whinge Whinge Whinge you are a very negative little boy who wants his candy back, Well your not getting candy back and it's time you grew up.....You have a lot to say about the RDFL but not once have you thrown your hat into the ring, but you won't!!! actions are louder than words let's see if you have the BALLS and jump on the board....................that's right the board has already been elected and we have another 12 months of you potting the VOLUNTEERS that sit on the board.
This league has been around a longtime before I came into this world and it will be here long after I'm gone. don't a part of the problem be apart of the solution.....RANT OVER

RDFL is a great league however if , and I say if, what does happen to this league if Wallan go back to Northern and Rupo join Essendon
Is it still sustainable with 8 teams?

Here comes the standard response.... I set up a business plan at both clubs, I had family and work commitments, I’ve moved north now. Blah blah blah!!!

Is there a legitimate reason that either club would do that? Wallan seems to have started to thrive since returning. They are just another mediocre club stuck in a divisional structure if they go back to NFL level. Stuck like Kilmore without a purpose. Stuck between divisions year on year.

In the RDFL Wallan can compete every year and have a point of difference to their 3 local teams. They are currently the club of choice in their direct area. It would be insanity to change.

Much the same for Rupo although their junior system gives them some chance of being sustainable at a premier div level in the EDFL. Its a gamble though and you would need to nearly double your football budget to compete. If any of this doesn’t work you are stuck going up and down in divisions and desperately clinging on to players every year. Nothing to say they can’t make a go of it but there doesn’t seem any need to take the risk.

Most of the supposed issues with the RDFL have been self fulfilling prophecies driven by the clubs after deciding to leave. Lots of conspiracy theories and rumours but very little fact.

The league has issues like every league. The others have even more if you care to go and read their forums. There is definitely things to tweak and improve but I just can’t see any major reason to depart unless it’s geographical.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, don't think there is any need to just play the man. Judge or comment on the content not the person! Couple of points, agree every league does have issues in some way, ultimately a club I would think needs to ensure sustainability and that is what is the best pathway from junior to senior footy and where can my club thrive. That is the main call to make now as with the point decision junior footy is as important to a senior club imo now as the recruit your trying to get. Also, don't go and spend up and try to win flags the non respected way then start worrying about sustainability! This league does not have a few issues, it has a heap of issues. It all starts at the top. The clubs need a vision to be able to follow an understand, if there is no vision or broad based strategic plan, how do they plan. This region is going to triple in population over the next 15 years, whats the plan to harness that. I applaud Sunbury and Kilmore and Broadford for taking action for their own clubs. I am still not convinced that EDFL is a great fit for Sunbury or any RDFl team but they will ultimately be judged in the next 5 years. Only they know what their plan is. The clubs can't whinge about image, standard, perception of the league then not support an 18 round fixture. That's farcical. Grab your player contract, guarantee same amount of money over 18 weeks if you can't afford the extra two games. Go to the players and negotiate a two round payment plan, rest players for two rounds against the ordinary teams, plenty of strategies out there. Surely the players want the league to have as much respect as possible to. If the clubs are fair dinkum about rejuvenating the league then they buy in to the 18 round final 5 system. League should just make the call anyway!

Who says there isn’t a strategic plan? There was a detailed presentation only a year or so ago I’m told.

Besides fixturing and finals format which hardly call for a league change what isn’t being included that causes such angst? What are clubs not being told that doesn’t allow them to plan? Genuinely asking because I can’t see anything that stops a club planning or creating a vision.

Other leagues have the same issues and in most cases even worse. It comes with the territory and things evolve. Kangaroos just win an 8 team comp where two clubs are near insolvent.

I want things improved as well but I want things judged on facts and reality.

I think it's been a "rolling" plan for near on a decade, I recall hearing and reading stuff long time ago insinuating 3-5 years time ...

AGM this coming week, good luck to all throwing their hats in the ring, for me if the Ballarat FL clubs pull away like rublings suggest they might then it may allow perfect timing for the RDFL to dust itself off with a stack of new faces and establish a genuine "plan" to sustain a future.

Item #1 has to be targetting clubs, every other league is doing it, and it's no longer in a secret squirrell approach, put it on record that in terms to grow and sustain we'd love to see (for e.g) South, Kyneton and co. see the RDFL as it's future ... and then make it happpen.

18 round comp and a final 4 is the best way forward IMO.

I don’t think we will go to 18 next year.
Not only affect player payments but league fees will increase as will umpires. But if makes sense for 2021. Personally I would go final 5.

Kilmore have a purpose, to win the 2020 Div 3 NFNL flag. You seem to have the view that every competition that has the relegation/promotion system is flawed. Does that include the English Premier League?
