So about a month ago my kids come to me and ask for a Nintendo Switch, I reply "if you pay for half of it, I'll get you one".

The following morning at 6am there's 2 smiling little shits holding $200* in their money boxes next to my bed asking what time we'll get it.

So it's today, I've bought the OLED, a second set of Joy-cons, 4 games: daughter - Animal Crossing, son - Mariokart 8, wife - Just Dance 2022 and dear old broke-arse dad - Mario Odyssey and down just short of $800** despite the sales.

Considering I've had every Nintendo system (apart from the original Gameboy) and preferred Playstation for the past few years, I'm looking forward to getting back amongst some easy gaming.

*Daughter has a job delivering papers and won a raffle at the local pub and shared it with her brother

**I'm well aware that $200 isn’t half of the expenditure, but it's more than I ever put in for consoles when I was a kid.
Sounds like you really wanted the Just Dance 2022 for yourself.

It's the best bit of tech we have as a species.

If a single fan of the defibrillator comes at me again, so help me god.

Enjoy your switch, they're great! Odyssey is fantastic, Breath of the Wild is genuinely the biggest achievement in video games history I reckon, and Mario Kart is just fun as ****. A wise choice.

Yeah Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are 2 things I've been waiting for for a long time - just couldn't justify the expenditure a few years back. Can't wait to give them a go.

When did the word 'bougie' become a thing? Been noticing it a lot this week.

According to UrbanDictionary.com, boujie is anything that is perceived as "upscale" from a blue-collar point of view. The word is a shortened version of bourgeois which has a French origin and used a descriptor for those family's part of the Bourgeoisie class. Just a fancy French term for upper-middle-class families.

You know I was just thinking yesterday how eerily similar the world is to 1929 right now and if the communists are making a comeback I'm just going to start building an air raid shelter.

Also on my second play-through of Pokemon Legends Arceus on my Switch.

Look, i try to be as accepting as I can with everything, but turn based video games - just go play a board game. There's zero physical coordination involved.

Soz, try as I may I cannot understand nor accept it.

But, like you know, whatever.

Actually they've added dodge mechanic for avoiding Pokemon attacks when you aren't engaging them in battle (and all the boss fights are structured around it and frankly it's not that sophisticated but it's the biggest risk they've taken in 20 years so I'm trying to be encouraging).

People also play video board games.

I'd also like to add if Mariokart was an Olympic sport I'd be the GOAT.

Ali, Bolt, Bradman, Gretzky, Jordan and me, Bender - all discussed in the same conversation.
On the champ mode I'm usually peak Schumacher for 3/4 races, then have every misfortune under the sun in the other race while some AI campaigner who'd come 2nd every race wins it and comes 1st overall.

The great news- got a transfer and promotion to a new position that I've been looking at recently. Probably a $20k pay bump. Super excited. It's been a tough couple of months personally so it's good to have something positive occur.

But, because it's my life, there's a fun little sting in the tail. Working under me (heh) is the incomparable A, which I did not realise. Haven't spoken to her properly in quite some time.
