This has nothing to do with me staying up past midnight to play video games and then skipping the gym this morning.
Amateur. If you were dedicated like me you would skip the gym every day.

I hate how life is set up. The best hours of your day - when you're most awake and motivated - are spent on working. If you want quality time with your family you have to do it in the evenings when you're tired after a long day. Want to keep fit? Great, get up at 5am so you're even more exhausted for the things you want to enjoy in the evening, or just plain too tired to learn new things after work.

What bothers me: "oh it's set up so you get 8 hours to sleep, 8 to work and 8 to play", except the commute to and from work only comes out of two of those three options so it's more 8/8/6/2

Plus if your lunch hour doesn’t count in the 8 hours of work, it’s tough to squeeze in either play or sleep in that window.

8 hours of play time, wouldn't that be nice! 🙌

I'm up at 6:30am, out the door before 7am at which point one or both kids are still asleep, back home from work at 5pm to cook dinner and spend two hours with the groms before their bedtime then I've got 2-3 hours of trying to cram in whatever I want whilst also maintaining a marriage before rinsing and repeating.

Been contemplating a more regular exercising routine in there somewhere. Mornings are difficult because it's not realistic to expect I'm getting out of bed at 5am in Winter, but trying to exercise at 7pm is problematic after the kids have sapped my will to live in that two hours since I have been home from work

🥲

The pro for 5am is that it's ****en done and you don't need to think about it for the rest of the day. The con being it's not hard to talk yourself out of it on cold winter mornings.

I used to finish work then exercise then dinner, but that time is when I get the best time with loved ones so I changed it to the mornings 10 years ago and now I'm just used to it.

I was up early training last Spring/Summer and suspect I will be again, particularly with an East facing bedroom. It's actually a great way to start the day and I was so much more productive at work. But I know it's not sustainable for me during Winter, which bums me out before I even begin.

Have you considered suggesting vigorous sex to your wife? You know, two birds, one stone.

Yeah it can be tough. I think investing in stuff raises my motivation - like those earphones, running shoes, Under Armour thermal gear and various other stuff to try and keep me focused and up.

I agree, definitely feel so much better for the day, which is probably why I was grumpy and complaining from the get go.

My wife subscribes to that theory as well. The active wear industry it propped up on my wallet but hey at least she trains as well.

I'm starting to lean that way myself. Got a day off work next week with no kids so going to stock up on some new gear and see if that kicks me into training mode!

After a month and a bit of exercing my lower back issues (same issues that made pile on the weight) are slowly surfacing again. Just come to the realisation all my issue have coincidentally started at the same time Yeo/boots/Gov started having issues

I found squats and deadlifts (with correct form) have alleviated a lot of lower back pain for me.

At the risk of telling you something you may already know; I had a prolapsed a disc in my lower back in my mid-20s. I got over it by losing weight slowly and concentrating on flexibility and swimming. So some yoga, easy walks on soft surfaces and swimming laps followed by a sauna/spa. Clean living helped out a fair bit too.

But yeah, sure you've heard a lot of it before, but just slow and steady may do the trick.

I'm not sure he knew that.
