Really, really old retro forgotten games

30ish years old could be considered as old and retro :p. The Strike series (Desert, Jungle, Urban etc). My first experience with them (Desert Strike) was on the Amiga, but followed it up by playing the first two sequels on the Mega Drive. Game play was fun and storyline wise I always got a kick out of the villain 2IC in one game, would be the big bad villain in the sequel. Lost track of the series (but think it had an entry or 2 on the first playstation).

Probably not forgotten by those of us who played them back in the day, but EA don't want to touch the franchise :(
If you held a gun to my head and said I had to name my top 10 of all time then Desert Strike would be there. One of my favourite series and I wish it would make a comeback (only in the original style). I even had Soviet and Nuclear Strike on PS1.
This guy is brining it back.

I was super lucky being gable to play those (and other) games on the Amiga 500.... the graphics and audio was far better. As I discovered later in life (late 90s) playing the pc versions with the EGA graphics and beeps for audio.

Funniest one was a Wheel of Fortune game, the C64 and Amiga 500 versions had better colour than the DOS release (yellow, red and green palette).
CGA graphics. The Jeopardy game we had was the same. My sister and I used to play it a lot and were weirdly good at it being young kids. Though often we'd play with a fake third character so that the AI wouldn't nab all the answers.

I remember though that obviously it was made for newer computers because the 7 second answer timer took about 30 seconds to run out. When I first ran it on Dosbox years later at its correct speed it was like it was on meth.

That's reminded me of another few old ones from this era. We also had Skyrunner which was pretty cool at the time. Had no idea what to do other than fly around and shoot stuff, not sure if there was any more to it.

There was also this golf game that was my white whale for years. Took me years to find it again because I couldn't remember anything about the game or developer other than it was golf. Did a few posts on various sites asking if anyone could remember it but all suggestions were wrong. Finally found it a couple years ago. It was called Pro Golf. Top down, CGA style graphics, no animations, just "Select club", select direction, select power, then watch where the game puts your ball and continue. Terrible game all things considered, and considering what else was probably available at the time. But when it's all you've got you still play the heck out of it.

May as well rename the thread Commodore Amiga 500 Game Appreciation Thread :p

It's technically not forgotten for 2 reasons 1) the dos//pc version was put on Steam some time ago

2) A sequel (more in the spirit of... rather than direct and it's not a very good sequel either lol) was released not long ago.

But this was bloody awesome back in the 90's and once I found out that it was re-released on Steam... I purchased it straight away!!

Basically boxing manager sim - train your fighter before a fight in different ways. Take them to the fight and "watch it" (via way of commentary speech bubbles), repair the fighter in between rounds etc etc.

Used to role play, manage myself while having a Mike Tyson look-a-like named him Mike Tyson and named the Asian fighter Lui Kang as a Mortal Kombat tribute :p

jack nicklaus greatest 18 holes. very interesting desert course in there i think.

played on both cga and ega. many an albatross in this one.

Oh don't get me started on golf games - (another Amiga 500 reference incoming)

Always used to pretend I was doing the Price is Right hole in 1 game when doing a few of these levels :p

PGA Tour 2 on the Mega Drive was my favourite back in the day - then Microsoft Golf on Windows 95
Tiger Woods 99 and Tiger Woods 2004 other stand outs :p

Haha, golf retro games. Reminds me of playing Leaderboard on my grandparents C64. I can't believe that owned that, let alone a NES which they never used.

Looking back now, probably wouldn't have gotten the appetite for using computers and gaming if I didn't get influenced as a young kid in the 80s.

Awesome franchise. I remember coming home from school one day, and the TV (and SNES) that was usually in my bedroom, was now in the kitchen. Dad had discovered Jungle Strike and was determined to beat the game in his own time.

It was also the first game series where I experienced a noticeable difference between the series. Desert Strike felt a little less nice compared to Urban Strike.

I'll never forget the time where I got to the end of (I think) Jungle Strike, in the final level you carry the bad guy around on your winch, perhaps bashing him into buildings to eventually kill him ("Rest. In. Pieces.")

One of my favourite games from MegaDrive

in Primary School, a friend told me about this game. I thought he was full of shit. Flicking boogers to attack? A big fart attack? Sounded fake. Tough game, I ended up renting it for a weekend.

Desert Strike was definitely simpler but it was the first (I think?). In Jungle Strike you could go find the hidden choppers which was cool.

I can't remember where I first heard of Boogerman. It was probably in Disney Adventures or something and I had to order it as I could never find it in store. From memory I thought it was pretty tough too.

We had a Macintosh Classic in the mid-late 90s - our first computer.

It came with a bunch of games - I assume on a floppy disk.

Cairo Shootout. I dont think I ever understood how to play it at the time.

Glider. Used to love this but wasnt very good at it.

Mac Bugs. THis was mad fun.

I also remember a horse racing game - I think the one referenced here. There was also one called Bird Race.

I also remember a game called Shuffle Puck or something, but when I google it its not the same one. I also remember what might have been a very early hang man too.
