Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

I agree, too much has been wasted, time to listen to indigenous voices on how this money can be better spent.

I thought they are already in control of how the money is being spent? Who's telling the NIAA how to spend their funding or any other Indigenous group for that matter?

The vibe from FNQ is a solid NO!.

Apart from the drunks who put up make shift camps on the side of the road, and are audibly aggressive even at a distance.

If the yes vote is dependent on the bush voting yes, then you toorak AFL loving flogs are in for one hell of a shock.

Personally I'm not voting, waste of time.

You're all peasants.

Latest polling says "YES" will win comfortably.
The morons of FNQ who vote for One Nation are going to be crying into their Wheaties.

Where abouts are you in FNQ?

this is what people who oppose this voice referendum have been arguing
-they will use this to tax people
-they will use this to take land

HOW?

What power does the voice have that parliament doesn't actively give it?

Its power is also limited by the wording. It has the power to give opinion. Not make any laws. Who gives a shit what someone WANTS it to be able to do?

why haven't any details been provided to the public about their intentions and what exactly are they going to use this for?
they have remained silent. and a prominent indigenous leader has said "the public will get told about the details after they vote yes"

Yeah they are going to take your back yard and do evil magic out there. Probably going to trans kids and do the sexy with your missus.

They have provided details.

It’s the no campaign thats throwing all sorts of crap around in the hope some of it sticks.

They have provided details. It's about providing feedback on legislation that will affect Indigenous people. Nothing about stealing your backyard. That's just scaremongering claptrap, the same kind doled out when Mabo passed that never came to fruition. People peddling it are either disingenuous, ignorant or racist... there's not really any room in between.

This is the kind of thing which passes for "No" campaigning on Sky. Just muddying waters up a bit, using quotes out of context, the introducing private school kids from Sydney and Melbourne who went to Alice Springs and "shock/horror" found out there were problems and it wasn't clear to them how the Voice would help those issues directly.

Warning: You will almost certainly be dumber after watching.

Have they? Multiple times they’ve said finer details will be sorted later.

How do you know anything effecting indigenous Australians won’t have to be presented to the voice and allow a 6 months “processing” time for them to suggest ideas?

You just don’t know.

Did you just ignore the first part where their names were added as part of the yes campaign against their will

It's laughable that people think this is some secret plot by the government to cede power to Indigenous people so they can get their land back.

Laughable? Wonder why people think that

It’s easy man. Look at all the NO folk like Dutton, Abbott, Jones and ask yourself - when have these LNP/IPA grubs ever been on the right side of history?

Are you claiming some people who sit on the voice won’t be asking for what is written in that tweet?
Again go back and reread the post you quoted and explain to me this is relevant to that
