WE saw a lot of young kids who will struggle too. Didnt see many like palmer etc emerge . We will be in wilderness for a while yet , we must be one of the few clubs to of lost there premership midfield in a two year period.I also think as supporters and members we deserve more than we are getting.

EAGLES players have lost thier footballing instinct abit.

I'm tellin ya if all the injured players played, we would have not done much better.

The players cant sense things as much as the real EAGLES have always had.
This is totally due to the 150 courses they had to do for off-field stuff.
We might have needed that this season - or maybe not as much but
Its about time the club relaxed on this or otherwise they will destroy players careers.

Footballers need a calmness within the aggression.

Man,, they even tried hard agaisnt the GEELONG but cant sense the speed of player they handpass to or anything.

That type of football instinct which makes an AFL player has been smashed out of the club abit or maybe alot.
Barnaba and the board might actually think that we had a great season.
Keeps on talking about the core values.
DOES he mean glistening white teeth

1) Ebert has been fantastic
2) McKinley kicked 42 goals in 18 matches
3) Masten showed some very promising signs
4) Our 4 young backman (Wilkes, Spangher, MacKenzie, Schofield) all got substantial game time.
5) Lynch re-invented himself as a gun midfielder ;)
6) Cox will be AA again
7) LeCras averaged over 2 goals a game for the second year in a row
8) Butler is back

Problem is, they never worked together as a team and because of this, they struggled to put together 4 quarters of solid football. We need some stability in the team next year, hopefully we used this year as a trial period to test where each player is best suited.

Not really, this often happens, recent examples are Brisbane and Port.i

Pretty succint assesment. Many of our young players gained experience and probably a deal of hunger from what could be kindly be described as a tough start. We saw glimmers of where our backline, midfield and forward line may head in the future though nothing is settled and we are clearly still in the rebuilding stage.
Whats less positive is our lack of coaching staff given recent vaccancies. Some may argue this is a good thing and we have the money to spend, I'd be inclined to agree so long as we can secure the necesary help. Another potentially concerning point
is the sheer volume of injuries we have sustained over the last 2 seasons. I hope its just coincidence and a compound of injuries from last season aswell as less severe injuries(in the long term) from this season, which due to our prospects it was deemed preferable for players to undergoe more immediate surjury. If not then what does this say about our list management, coaching staff etc. especially considering our current staff situation.

Anyways.... all in all I'm actually pretty excited about next season!!!! Heres hoping it was the valuable experience needed and tough start that fastracked our youngsters to greatness! lol;)

Didn't give a whimper most weeks. TBO I struggled to watch the on field capitulations. The sudden loss in confidence in eachother's abilities, the demise of our run and support through the guts and all too rare one percenters were most unsettling.

The injuries that the players sufferred were most frustrating ! At the start of the season I had high hopes for Brown, Masten, Ebert, Hurn, Kennedy etc but, as the season wore on all of those players came down with injuries at different times and the Eagles were unable to develop a settled structure. Kudos to the players who battled away all season, especially Glass and Cox who had to play with injury for long stretches because we had no-one to replace them ! Let us hope that we can retain our good players who are yet unsigned, get the best out of the next draft, avoid the long term injuries that blighted this season and move onwards and upwards next season towards our rightfull position at the top of the AFL !

with the departure of cuzz and judd, we needed a senior midfielder to stand up. Stenglein had a poor season at best.

i wanted to see more of kennnedy. Very impressed from the glimpses he showed when he did manage to play. fantastic set of hands.

ebert was shaky in the beginning but got better with each game. only down side is that he's not the quickest midfielder. cant afford to have too many like pridda.

mickinley was def the shining light of the season. will only get better. a fantastic talent and miles ahead of hack hansen

wilkes was brave, a good solid defender. much in the same bracket as Harry Taylor. only difference is that taylor has the guns in the mid and around him in milburn scarlett etc to make his job alot easier.

Mackenzie will be a very good backman. needs to gain some muscle over pre season

Coxy and A Selwood will fight it out for the B&F. Coxy, well nothing else to be said about him.

A HANSEN to be traded. 6 ft 4, robotic, 1 dimensional, slow, poor hands poor goal kicking..... BUT a good clubman. so keep him woosha..

I'm qualified to comment here because my wife goes for the Eagles and we go to several games at Subiaco every year.

Some of the youngsters look terrific- Kennedy, Wilkes, McKinley, LeCras, Ebert etc, and the Eagles have always been able to nurture young talent.

Cox is one of the most admired players in the AFL- can't see how he could do anything to lose that status.

Shannon Hurn could have operated as a line breaker in the manner of Stuart Dew, i.e., kick the ball over a contested area where a midfield missing the experience of Cousins and Judd might struggle. Where Lynch took on that role it opened scoring opportunities, as it did for Richmond with Richo on the wing.

On the negative side a number of players need to rediscover the ability we know they've got- Stenglein, Embley and Nicoski spring to mind.

Good luck for '09 (except against the Dogs!)
