I must say that for a "supposedly" neutral game, I find myself barracking big time for North Melbourne to beat Port Adelaide today.

That would be, for me , a win / win / win outcome.

I am I alone ???
Or just a depraved opportunistic mind ???

Just setting yourself up for disappointment hoping for a north win

Enjoying see North Melbourne get thrashed. As much as Id like to see the Eagles get the #1 draft pick, i think the AFL are more likely to give North a compensation pick we finish last.

Also avoiding the wooden spoon would be nice.

I actually think you are right.

If we finish last we get the ignominy of a spoon, and don't even get pick one. (Just like last time)

If we finish 17th we avoid the spoon and get pick 3.

17th for me. I know that given current form that is an ambitious stretch, but hey, sometimes you've just got to aim high.

No-one is giving a team pick 1 as a priority pick. If North get anything, it would probably be a pick at the end of the first round.

I'd like us to finish last with 1 win. If we finish bottom 4 next year, it allows us to make an argument for a priority pick.

Also, if you're going to have a shit season and finish bottom 4, might as well go all the way down and get the best draft picks as a result.

Why not?

They gave one to GC to give them picks 1 and 2 to ensure they got both Rowell and Anderson.

Edit - and that was after they had had 3 of the top 6 picks the year before.

They were abysmal. We arnt that bad are we? oops the ran over us.
In the second half of the season we'll finally get consistency with player availability and we'll win a few games imo.

Legit not sure North will win another game this year. They were dreadful against our top up team even though they won it.

But they finished last. There is no way that the AFL is taking pick one off us, to give to North, if we finished last. They can't justify it because clearly we're a worse team (given we finished below them).

Look up the priority pick Brisbane recieved, that is more in line to what North might get.

Saints and Freo are hit n miss.

If they make the 8 either could surprise or live up to their "meh" ness

Also

Its still May

Not sure Freo have missed at all this year? They didn't start in great form, but it's amazing what a few wins will do for a teams belief. Fell over the line against Crows on the road, lost to Saints which everyone said was inexcusable but now looks par for the course, then we kickstarted their season. They haven't looked back since.

I'm getting on Saints as a dark horse for the flag.
I said this a few weeks back. They just have some weird X factorness about them which could be enough in this weird season. It would take an almighty **** up from Melbourne not to win it though
