Now to the Rutten presser..

"Won't let the players down now"
-Trying to avoid how he is feeling (probably rightfully pissed.
"Made a commitment and will continue as best he can"

He's total class. Should tell them after Sunday to go and get *ed.
The tough thing is that he's on $500K to coach them and there aren't any other viable head coaching jobs for him to jump to. That's a lot to give up in order to go back to being an assistant. Maybe he should bide his time, try and get them into finals next year and then jump ship to Port Adelaide when they sack Hinkley.

Yeah I can't believe Hird is even allowed back into the club for a shnitty let alone could be made coach.

He can't keep his job now.
Just has to wait until they sack him so he gets paid out.

Spent a fair bit of time with him in Vietnam a few years ago, drinking. We brought him out for a function. The guy is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Truly a good guy.

So he won't throw a gatorade bottle or send players on a wacky cult camp like our best coaches?

Pass

Suitable assistant for us?

Before joining Worsfold at Essendon, Rutten was the defensive coach at Richmond from 2015-18

On the basis that I believe we should be considering replacements for one or both of Pratt (Backs) and Webster (forwards) bringing Rutten over to be our backline coach wouldn’t be the worst idea. Not sure how we’d go fitting him under the spending cap though assuming he was even interested

North Presser now.

"Fond memories about playing days and remembering old North games".
"Club needed help and support and was pivotal in making the decision"
Was always leaning North but made decision at 7:30pm last night.

heck, how long have pratt and webster been involved at the eagles. Time to move them on.

Pratt came across with Simpson and spent time with both the AFLW and WAFL sides. I think he’s actually been ok and was backline coach in 2018

Webster joined in 2015 and was a development/WAFL coach initially. Has been forwards coach the last 3?years. Personally I think he’s the weakest of our line coaches

Happy if Pratt stays but would like to see Webster moved on to continue the refresh of our assistants from last year

The perfect quote to illustrate Essendon’s opinion of themselves.

It’s quite brilliant how Essendon have set fire to themselves in pursuit of someone they were unlikely to get but thought they could just stroll in at the last minute because they’re a big Victorian club

Arrogance at its most poisonous

I don't think Clarko will work for North, for a few reasons. Firstly, he had a Hawks list to rebuild after 2018 and failed pretty badly at that over three seasons.

Secondly, they are paying him $1.1M out of a soft cap of $6.5M. For reference, Simmo is on about $800k and I've read articles saying that a rookie coach, Rutten, is on $500k. That is a lot of extra cash going to Clarko that means less resources elsewhere.

Thirdly, Clarko is apparently a bit of a tyrant that wants to take over all aspects of a club. He worked well at Hawthorn as they had strong personalities around him who could stand up to and manage him (eg Fagan). North is weak as piss, there's a good chance he burns out by taking on too much and no-one stopping him.

It sets up an interesting trade period. He will be going all out for bringing in experienced players, including guys from Hawthorn. Watch the AFL give them some second rounders to spread around as priority picks.

Footy media (Robbo, Caro, Hackdorn etc) fell for it hook line and sinker as well

Oh yeah gross, I forgot about how Gil is basically his gimp and will give him whatever he wants.
