Can someone explain why, when Tex or Berg take the forward 50 ruck contests, ROB stands 10m away from them in no man's land?
this is a question that has been transfixed in my mind for weeks. Tex ruckwork this year has been abysmal - he has lost some of his core strength and is now regularly getting easily beaten in the ruck up forward. Rob just gets in the way. He should be a kick and a half away from the play or run to square if high ball is kicked.

Triggered me so much v Collingwood, that 'shot' on goal or whatever it was at the end cost us the game imo as that rebound led to their goal. At least kick it out on the full...

Also I hate when he gets into any kind of chain, anyone passing to him should be chastised.
he should be subbed or dropped for behaving in that manner

It was a terrible error but it didn't directly cost the game. What cost the game was moments later Ben Keays gathering the ball and trying to be a hero, snapping it into a Collingwood player about 2 meters away, rather than handballing to one of 3 options in the clear. That rebound off the Collingwood player directly led to the winning goal.

Keays is never far away from the dying moments thing that causes the heartbreak.

Even last years non goal vs Sydney. Not his fault in that instance of course.

It’s contagious though.

ROB just symbolises the AFC as a whole.... Honest trier but ultimately just not up to it.

Hopefully in a few years we can can go after Goad or try and get Ned Moyle at end of this year.
I've watched some of Taylor Goad's VFL games for the Kangas this season...he's miles off at this point, getting ragdolled by some very average VFL/AFL level rucks.

Athletic 204cm Saints Ruck/Forward Max Heath out of contract season's end and yet to debut after 3 years on their list, understandable with Rowan Marshall dominating in the AFL so might be an option worth a look.

Ned Moyle I think the Suns may be able to entice to stay with Jarrod Witts turning 33 Sept 2025, could depend if the Suns think Ethan Reid can be fast tracked to takeover in 2025/26.

ROB's only attribute these days is his ability to at least create a contest at the bounce/throw up so the opposition don't just perform clearance drills.

BUT, his negative moments are now (what the hell is this around the corner under 7s kick across his body thing) countering any good he does, especially since he has lost all ability to mark the ball.

Thank you for filling in after Sauce, no doubt you are a good bloke and have good values but unfortunately just being tall doesn’t mean you can football.

It's actually debatable that he has good values

Gotta be suss on someone who ranks Jordan Peterson as a role model

Most of the time on the field it looks like he is barely competing

It's been going on for years, it's not an error or accident. Our coaches genuinely see value in positioning him there.

He tackles well on the few occasions he catches an opposition player …. so perhaps it’s a non-statistical pressure forward role!

Bagging ROB is a waste of time. He is what he is - an honest trier who lacks any semblance of football skill.

The blame needs to go entirely on the club's list management committee for failing to recruit another ruck. To not have a ruckman younger than 28 on the list is a disgrace for a rebuilding club.

Who the hell cares who his role models are

Nobody in terms of his footy ability, but if you're going to claim that he has "good values" then it's relevant.

For what it's worth, he seems to be a very good teammate, looks after the newcomers, etc. I've heard multiple players single him out for praise in helping them adjust to the group, etc. He's just very average as a footballer.

I'd take James Manson over Reilly O'Brien and he's 57

Would Rory Lobb be an improvement?

Or is that taking it a bit too far......

As others have said, ROB typifies all that has been wrong with the AFC for an eon.

Investing so many games into an uncoordinated plodder, with zero effort to find an upgrade.

It’s a case study in the AFC way.

Said in another thread - the saying 'Good is the enemy of great,' applies perfectly to the AFC.

(Shit, I hope that's not something JP has said!)
