Sides like Brisbane and Carlton were more interested in their own football, I can't imagine they were too worried about him.
If you start winning some games in 2017 and he continues on his good form, he will start being attacked and tagged, and then we will see how good he is.
Comparing him to Bont and Cripps who are already the focus of the opposition is disingenuous. He really isn't playing the same sport as them at the moment.

I disagree. Ben Brown is extremely underrated... though he is also extremely difficult to look at at, cringeworthy in fact. Reminds me of Carrot Top!

Carlton employed two run with players in the first Essendon v Carlton encounter which also counters your hilarious argument that Carlton would be more worried about their game style than winning.

I reckon if you did a poll on every team board on BF Merrett would win most.
Doesn't really matter though. 2nd 3rd 4th means very little.

Why because Boyd had a few decent games surrounded by the premiership side? Yes Boyd has the potential to be a great player, but Merrett proved himself this year with little to no protection from more experienced mids. He had over 600 disposals this season, Boyd kicked less than a goal a game.

The point you miss is that its much easier to find a 600 possession seagull than it is to find a young CHF to build your team around.
Less so surrounded by a premiership side more so b+ level side surrounded by premiership goliath Toyd.

That poster in particular is just a shit talker. Merrett iirc is the youngest AFL player to reach 600 disposals in a season. Boyd hasn't even come close to producing the same level of consistency and influence. Also Daniher>Boyd every day of the week.

He has demonstrated nothing to even remotely suggested you can confidently build a side around him as a CHF. I mean shit, he only kicked 1 goal in the previous 7 games before the grand final.

You have some serious bias towards Merrett obviously and aren't considering others points of view. Merrett on output is of course better than Boyd currently, but that isn't the point of the draft. Teams often draft for potential and ceiling, and it's not hard to understand Boyd has more upside than Merrett.
