The difference in talent levels between any 2 AFL sides is not that great.

After 2006, not many gave Geelong a chance of putting it all together to have such a successful season. We came from 10th, to dominating the competition.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in odds, or even general consensus' on BF. Anything can happen.

One of the best experiences of footy I've had was going to some pub across the road from the MCG, tigers jumpers everywhere, then going to see the Cats get done. A massive MCG crowd singing yellow and black after a win was just awesome.

I haven't really answered your question, because I'm not sure of the answer.

As you can see when Hawthorn fired in the 70's and 80's we shot ahead of the rest. We have had a little down period and are now rising again. This can not be said for Richmond. They have had their down time and are yet to rise and probably won't for a while longer. Poor recruiting and choice of coach have certainly ruined any chance Richmond have of playing finals before 2010.

No doubt Clarkson made the tougher list management decisions early on. As a result we're probably two years or so behind Hawthorn in development. Who does better in the long run remains to be seen.
