Good. We just love beating them after the siren in Adelaide.AFL won't like the optics, we won't get a port game in WA for a few years
Other than the obvious disappointment in him not paying back the club that supported him, how is what he is doing that bad? Not disputing you, genuinely curious. He has nominated a club because they have offered him a deal - isn’t that what every trade basically involves these days? He blindsighted the club which I guess is a dog act but what should he have done differently? Other than not leave obviously. But leaving like this
That statement is very much out of character for our club
I actually think completely the opposite, it's the first sign that Nesbitt hasn't actually lost the plot altogether.Very out of character, in fact verging on downright unprofessional.
It's one of the clearest signs I've seen that Nisbett is losing it. What does it achieve exactly? Where does it leave the club if negotiations go nowhere? How does it make any teammates who are close to him feel about the club??
Fans can vent, but any business owner knows that the only sensible option in this situation is to stay classy and take the high road however betrayed you might feel- if for no other reason because other employees see how you react.
Honestly its also a bit rich for west coast to be acting as though they stuck by Rioli out of the goodness of their heart. He's not a stray puppy who Nisbett took home from the pound, they backed him for the same reason there is trade interest in him- because he's serious football talent who from his first game onwards showed he can play well at AFL level, and has a major upside justifying the investment.
I also have far more sympathy for someone in Rioli's shoes making a purely financially motivated decision than an elite player his age who has been in the system on big money since they were 18, because the stakes are way way higher for him.
Rioli has probably got another 3-4 years of prime football left in him, and he's at a point where he could have a decent 150 game career and earn some solid coin, but also at a point where he's one serious knee injury away from seeing it all evaporate.
And I hope I'm wrong but given his off field idiocy he doesn't strike me as a guy with a glittering post football career waiting for him. Loyalty is all well and good but loyalty doesn't pay your mortgage. He's got a young family to provide for and for a 27 year old who came up through the SANFL and has spent two years suspended the difference, eg, a few hundred k and security of a longer contract might make to his future situation is huge.
Maybe it was different 20 years ago but in the current environment, where football clubs are clearly businesses and players are commodities who are discarded when they aren't worth anything, noone should ever criticise a player for looking out for themselves.

Statement already our best list managerThis statement was made as a message to Port that we're not just going to roll over and accept a shitty 4th round pick for Rioli
I had that statement in our top 5 statements for the year.Statement already our best list manager

Yeah I’m not suggesting we do. I’m just genuinely curious about why people think his behaviour has been so outrageous - other than deciding to leave, and other than nominating Port. Both of which seem very common.Everything you say is correct but it doesn’t mean we need to find a nice silver lining for him. How about stuff him, he did the wrong thing, the club supported him, he now wants out. This whole AFL industry where everything has to come out nice and rosey for everyone makes me sick. I could not care less about him anymore. And I do not wish him well in his footy career.

I haven’t really been following the media commentary about it so I may have missed a detail
Would rather send him to the PSDHe's worth more but hard to see how we don't get anything but a third rounder for him.

It struck me as an out of touch, arrogant CEO realising he didn't know everything he thought he did and not liking it.I actually think completely the opposite, it's the first sign that Nesbitt hasn't actually lost the plot altogether.

I don’t think that will be happening. He's worth more but hard to see how we don't get anything but a third rounder for him.
