Your club, not ours, has offered him a 4 year deal on as much as $500k per year according to some unconfirmed reports.

"Rioli has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal worth up to $2.4m to head to the Power, informing West Coast on Tuesday of his intentions."

Rioli's pay packet continues to grow.

Wouldnt it most likely be that Port gets pick 24 from Hawks for Amon, which they'll then use for Rioli?

Seems kind of serendipitous that pick 24 for Rioli is also repedigit of 420.

Amon's a free agent, Hawks don't give anything

A pick gets created out of thin air instead

Except that the compo pick will be either end of first round (so 19) or a 2nd round pick, after their existing 2nd rounder which we hold (so 27)

Most likely it’ll be the 2nd round pick

He
No club is going to touch him in the PSD. He wants to come to Adelaide for family reasons and he's chosen Port. No other club will risk the trouble of taking him in the PSD. It's not worth it to them.
He Hasn’t chosen Port for Family reasons he was shopping himself around for the best deal he can get and Port have delivered. Now it’s time for Port to front up or the Eagles as our List Manager said this morning will explore other options.

It's been well documented that he's got no family in Perth but has family in Adelaide and the Tiwi's. His mum travels to Adelaide one a month too.

Close connection to family is much more important to indigenous Australians than it is white Australians.

Didn’t realise the Tiwi Islands were so close to Adelaide

I reckon it will be a future second or Amon compo. He's not worth more, and certainly a 2.4 million dollar contract makes him not worth less.

What contract did Amon get for his move?
650k over 4 or 5 years

"Amon is expected to sign a deal worth up to $650,000 per season over four or five years. That should see Port Adelaide receiving an end-of-first-round or second-round draft pick as compensation for his exit."

We could redraft him. The club rates him, and had put a lot of time and resources into him
And it would be an almighty f*ck you
Id rather cut our losses and move on.

Im a khent for feeling this way but id be chuffed if rioli walks away from the game in 2 years and port have to pay him out .

Done plenty of work up there - the state capitals are effectively equidistant from darwin.

And.... if old mates mum travels to Adelaide each month why wasn't she travelling to perth - perhaps not that close?

I think the cash is king in this deal.

Let's not pretend for a moment this is about family, when interviewed he spoke about getting the best financial deal possible and making the most of it. He told the truth. Besides he has plenty of family in Victoria.

Regardless all you need to do is provide us the Amon compo and he is all yours. Pretty easy.
Getting the best financial deal is all about family and setting them up for the future.

$650k over 4 years for a free agent is about equal to $600k per year for a non free agent that you have to trade for.

Of course both of those numbers are completely made up - but we just go with the reports....

Obviously if Rioli gets 4 years and Amon gets 5 that is another difference, but still it isn't a massive gap.

If the dogs would trade Dunkley for Brisbane's pick (probably dreaming), would we (again, this is me dreaming) consider giving 20+26 to the Lions for Pick 15 (estimated), then 15+Rioli to Port for Pick 8?

Port essentially trade pick 8 for Rioli and 15 (Dunkley) (massive win for Port)
Brisbane get picks 20 + 26 for 15 (massive win for them, points wise - maybe we can get them to include Dev if we can convince him to leave)
We lose Rioli, 20, 26 but gain pick 8 (yep, we pay overs essentially giving up Rioli plus pick 65 in points to get up the order... but it is another top-10 pick)

I think they will want more for Dunkley (may not even want to go to Port), and I'd prefer to keep at least one of 20 or 26, but if we could then split 2 down to 5 or 6 and go in with 5, 8 and something in the late teens we'd be laughing.

Probably a bit too convoluted though. Will simply be 27 for Rioli and then we can deal with Brisbane and GC separately (Brisbane will want GC's second rounders, GC may want our early pick, we may be happy at pick 5 plus some sweetener/s)

Lyon being Lyon..

Lyon, who coached the Dockers from 2012 to 2019 before being sacked, criticised the Eagles for their response.

“I thought they were out of line, West Coast,” Ross told Triple M on Wednesday.

“When you’ve got a player on your list, it’s your responsibility to support him with everything you got.

“It’s not a bonus that you supported Rioli … it’s your job, it’s your responsibility to support the player. I think it’s a bit rich clipping him on the way out.”

He’s got a cousin playing at South Fremantle who he stayed with when he first returned from his suspension. He’s also got two cousins at Richmond but he picked Port over interest from several Victorian clubs.

What family does he have in Adelaide?

Haha yeah right. After the doping, we had every right to tear up his contract. More so after he tried to smuggle weed in his trousers. Responsibility? How about an AFL players responsibility to not be a ****wit and comply with the laws of the league, and society. That support was absolutely a bonus.

It's been pretty well reported that his partner has a sister in Adelaide and his mum travels down there monthly. His partner is prepared to live in Adelaide, she's not prepared to live in Perth, which leaves him isolated for his partner and child. It's a valid consideration.

Pointed but not totally inaccurate comment from Duffield the other day. "Look at the history of Rioli's in football. How much great footy came after 28?"

He's been a thoroughly ungrateful little turd and I'm glad Nisbett has said as much but we're better off without him. Just get the Amon compo and move on.
isn’t that the bloke that had an inappropriate dealing with a female staffer?

What’s her issue with Perth? Does she have similar concerns about Melbourne?

Sounds like it’s very similar to the Kelly scenario where the partner is very keen to live around family. Which is definitely understandable but it didn’t exactly result in Kelly’s club happily facilitating a move.

Oh you mean Harley Bennell’s biggest fan?

The coddling and continual chances for Harley Bennell that basically cost Freo potential dual Brownlow Medalist Lachie Neale?

And of course Lyon wouldn’t hold any stock in loyalty to a club, he pulled off basically the biggest snake job of all time when he left St Kilda.

She lived in Perth for a few years before the drug ban.

She just doesn’t want to move back to Perth obviously. Her reasons are her own, no doubt that was a consideration for Junior.

Doesn’t mean he couldn’t have handled it better with the Eagles though.
