The counter argument to this is that you don't rate him as much as Port (or high enough to satisfy him) (obviously)
nor enough to get him signed up prior to the end of his last contract year, will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Schofield is a WA guy and last year Eagles decided to up the footy department after all the covid cuts and etc. wouldn’t be surprised if he was offered more coin to come work in WA againYeah. Well he was here for two years before he had enough of Ken.
He’d keep an eye on him.
Nisbett would be like the vast majority who thought Rioli owed us.It seems pretty clear from that statement Nisbett thought he owed west coast and would never leave. As you say its the impotent rage of someone who has their own world view and has had reality sneak up and kick them in the ass.
If I had to make a wild and completely unsourced prediction, there was a point recently where Rioli's manager went to west coast and said 'just so you know we're being offered X'... and Nisbett told them to get *ed and Rioli should be grateful to even have a contract.
I think this is the part that grates with most supporters.Rioli’s ban only ended about 2 weeks before the end of last season, it would have been reckless to offer him a contract then
We were well progressed in talks on a new contract prior to his fathers death at which time we put talks in n hold
It’s unclear when Port approached him, but it may have been during the time we had suspended talks out of respect for his father
Can only speculate on why Port are offering more money, but it’s not unusual for a club to do so in order to encourage a player to shift
“Junior has made his decision and while he has indicated Port is his preferred destination we will work to get the best outcome for our club.”
I wonder if the Eagles are talking to Adelaide
Eh. I don't mind, provided we are compensated with a pick in the 20s.
Port are going to end up looking pretty silly being the first team to acquire a Rioli and not win a flag.

Thats depressing, gaff contracted for another 2 years.Maybe with McGovern next year and Gaff and Yeo in 2024 coming out of contract Eagles are going to have a fair bit of coin to throw around.
Yeah our list management has been poor don’t think that’s new news to anyone. Interesting that Darren Glass seems to have avoided any criticismThats depressing, gaff contracted for another 2 years.
Did you say "Gun"?What a great end to the season. Gun small forward fleeing the nest and Kennedy retired. Look forward to seeing more Zac Langdon in our forward 50.
Well, he was only in the job for 12 months.Yeah our list management has been poor don’t think that’s new news to anyone. Interesting that Darren Glass seems to have avoided any criticism
There are stories that be and Ken didn’t see eye to eye. Go through Ports assistant list over the last few years, common storey. It’s why we need Ken gone. Which will happen later next year, hence all the Carr talk.

Both Finlayson and Aliir Aliir were both moved on to ease salary cap issues and they were both considered to be steals for Port so they are not even relevant comparisons.
West Coast will not be interested in a third round pick as its unders for a player we wished to retain, have invested a lot of resources into and has been poached with a longer contract and more money.
The general consensus throughout the media and general footballing public is it will be your compo pick for Amon. It's in both clubs interests to just get the deal done but i think today's statement from the Eagles has made one thing clear.
We will not be held ransom or look to do Junior any favours, if adequate compensation is not provided then both Junior and Port best strap themselves in because it's not a forgone conclusion he will get to your club.
Both North and Essendon have shown interest in Junior and would snap him up in an instant in the PSD and whose to say if he cries about S.A being his only destination that the Crows do not either.
I think most Eagles supporters would be more than happy to let one of those clubs have him for nothing if all we are being offered is a third round pick we won't even use. It also means we probably won't feel his absence as much as he will be lining up for a fellow rebuilding side.
No club is going to touch him in the PSD.
Would never happen, why waste a list space... although we have for three years already I guess. We could redraft him. The club rates him, and had put a lot of time and resources into him
And it would be an almighty f*ck you
No club is going to touch him in the PSD. He wants to come to Adelaide for family reasons and he's chosen Port. No other club will risk the trouble of taking him in the PSD. It's not worth it to them.
Surely no way they can afford Junior if the Rankine deal gets done.Isn’t there another team in Adelaide that will have an earlier PSD pick? Can’t quite remember their name.
