I'm reading through this thread and I'm sure there are posters just trying to troll Collingwood supporters šŸ˜‚

Wait, you are trying to troll us, right? No one could possibly have Nick Daicos anywhere other than leading the Rising Star right now.

Rochelle is every bit a leader.

Nic Martin flying massively under the radar, for mine. Is having a phenomenal first season, and is in the Top 5 contenders for the award this year, IMO.

Currently my 5 are:

N. Daicos, Rachele, Bowey, N. Martin, Newcombe

Next 5 in line: JHF, O'Driscoll, Ginnivan, H. Chapman, Ginnivan

Likewise Nick Martin and Horne-Francis.

Both are still eligible so any talk of an 'advantage' is redundant. Mature aged players have won the Rising Star before.

My main point about Newcombe was his physical make up will likely hold him in good stead to continue playing consistent footy as the season wears on. Doesn't mean the others will fall in a heap because they aren't all built like 25 year olds yet.
My response was in relation to your comment of 1st year players dipping/dropping off. You would think it likely with the Vic draftees not playing much footy over the past 12-18 months, so they are at a disadvantage.

But yes there is bias in the fact that you believe Newcombe has more upside than others. JHF for example has far more upside than Newcombe this year in terms of what weā€™ve seen so far.

And I think thereā€™s 1 or 2 Freo kids who are likely to come in and show something.

You dont think saying a 6 game player plays with the confidence of a 200 game player, a natural leader, so far ahead of the game, making players come to him and burning off opposition is just getting a tad overexcited?

Josh Rachele plays with the confidence of a 200 game player, has elite goal sense, is one of the most accurate kicks in the game, turns around then destroys opposition defenders and reads the play better than any small forward in the competition. If he doesn't win the RS its #VICBIAS

You rolled your eyes.
Took me not even 1 second to name Dylan Moore and Luke Breust from 1 team that will dispute this moronic claim.

Yeah just made that statement without watching any of his games šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø. No doubt heā€™s going to be a gun, but he wouldnā€™t of been in the top 10 players on the ground the other day, and probably hasnā€™t been top 10 in many of his other games. Atm heā€™s good at finding the ball, a neat user and works hard to get into receiving positions. Itā€™ll go a long way towards convincing more people if he can go into the middle and really impact games.
Coaches votes in 2 games so far and that really tends to be the top 5 players on the ground. So youā€™re wrong again.

It isn't quite as blatant as 'most upside'. I simply feel Newcombe, with his physical advantages genetically at the moment and being a year older than the first year players, is a better chance of playing stronger footy come round 23 than he is now.

Daicos and Rachele in particular would be the favourites for the award IMO, however if they are dropping off by 5-10% come seasons end after playing every game in the seniors that won't surprise anybody. Doesn't mean one of them won't still win it and be a worthy winner.

Only talking THIS YEAR as well. Horne-Francis has more upside than any player in the competition. Does he have more upside in 2022 than Newcombe or Martin? Maybe, maybe not. Going to be a long year for his Kangaroos and that won't make it easy for him.

Do t get me wrong, I think Newcombe is excellent. Looks like he can play forward as well. I think I said it previously that he is your best midfielder (or at least will be).

In terms of Daicos, Iā€™m playing it up a bit because Iā€™m sure many opposition fans are quick to dismiss him because either we were fortunate enough to land him as a FS or simply because he is a Collingwood player. But he has probably had the most scrutiny/pressure of all recruits with many here even expecting him to fail before the season commenced. But he has taken it in his stride and been not only an excellent player, but also a leader in directing players where to move. Itā€™s not just about the disposals, the way he moves and threads through handballs in traffic and kicking go advantage is second to none. In a year or so when he moves into the midfield he will be dynamic as a goal kicking midfielder.

I think Newcombe, Rachele and Horne-Francis are three who haven't been 'shielded' from what their clubs see their eventual role as. Daicos has been shielded a bit but also added a lot of value in the role he's playing, which is good development.

Come end of year I do expect JHF to be shielded a bit, whereas Newcombe will still be going strong leading that midfield.

Collingwood punters probably started smashing hundreds and thousands on Daicos before the season started too.

Ah well, if they players perform like they have generally week in week out for the rest of the season, Rachele will win comfortably.
daicos in the bag what are you on ffs

JHF this week

Carrying our team

Another 20 touches and our best this week

Nah.

Jack Carroll will get it fairly comfortably I would have thought. Had a much better influence on the game

Disagree

Also Iā€™d be shocked if they gave it to him over the body of work JHF has put up

It's not dependent on body of work yet for the nominations, otherwise I would give it to O'Driscoll, he was very impressive against Geelong.
