Only because Daicos is younger
nope, we need inside break away mids with clean hands. daicos is playign as a half back which we have covered in spades (birchall... i mean scrimshaw, CJ, Impey with others that can also play through there but are being used elsewhere eg Day). Daicos hasnt proven he can carry a midfield group yet. for hawks needs duke is a better than daicos. If hawks choose 1 for right now its duke>daicos. Would love both though.

Newcombe is 2019 draft. 2001 born.

Somewhere behind Jackson, Rowell, Green, Serong, Anderson, Warner, and maybe your very own Will Day.
Its an interesting one he is the same age as a lot of the 2020 draft class as well. Or do we include him in the 2021 draft class as an over-ager because that's when he would have been picked up if not for the MSD.

Turns 21 in a week according to Hawks website. 2019 draft was his year if you must compare.
Yeah i just looked it up the cut off is you must have turned 18 before December 31 so he scrapes in to the 2019 class but is also the same age as most of the 2020 class as well, I do think 2019 is fair in this case.

Going purely by age, but he was drafted 2021. Which means what we are seeing from him is from 1 AFL preseason. Where as the ones from the 2019 draft have had up to 3. Not really apples and apples is it?

Nor did jai have the advantage of the same development pathways they did partially due to covid. From a purely professional development perspective you cant compare him to that draft year when he is only now able to play his first full afl season with 24 games experience.

the 2019 draft class have had access to potentially 62 + finals games of experience with picket on 55 games. Jai has had access to abt 29 games so half the potential experience.

I was going by age as was Barlow. You can compare him to whoever you please :p

I really like Martin however I think Newcombe and Daicos are ahead.

Duke is a pure footballer and just a delight to watch, and as much as I love our boy and think he is destined for a great career, it's pretty clear Daicos is also a star and I wouldn't be salty if he won, not at all.

The one argument I can put forward for Newcombe is that he has played as a midfielder all year - often as it #1 midfielder- while Daicos had had an easier job, doesn't mean he hasn't done it beautifully though.

It's a media award, it dosen't matter what anyone does, Daicos will win unless he's suspended.

Also Hawks fans STILL haven't got over Burton coming in 2nd to McGrath.
As Essendon fans are the ones constantly bringing it up i think the Hawk fans are well over an award from years ago involving 2 players that are solid and nothing more.

I’ve been putting Newcombe ahead of Martin because he was a year younger. Learning they’re both 2019 draft, it’s hard to split them. Similar possessions, both top users. Newcombe more clearances, Martin more goals/marks. Reflecting their different roles. On development, WAFL over VFL is better for COVID, but Martin hasn’t had a full AFL preseason.

Both teams’ fans will be awfully happy with them.

Daicos is like the Terminator. He will see Newcombe put a BOG performance and JUH kick 5 and say **** it time to put out another ridiculous performance.

I will say it again, unless he loses his marbles and belts someone off the ball he will win it. Had it sewn up about a month ago.

^ I think Nick will be focussed on getting the win and probably gives little if any thought to matching the output of Newcombe or JUH.

Daicos is winning it regardless of form now, only suspension stops him, but reckon it’s time he gets a tag. Can’t have his distribution running free. Rutter will send a stopper to him today I reckon. Watch how important he is to the Pies if he does get tagged, yes his role is “easier” but doesn’t mean he isn’t damaging teams with it.

I dunno mate. Have you seen Show Me the Money? He was livid when the possibility of not being number 1 was being floated.

This isn't a pop at him, if anything its a pat on the back, its great to have that obsession with winning when you are as talented as he is. As a Pies fan you know he wont waste his talent.

I think he will be monitoring his fellow rising star contenders closely.
