would have thought dalziell and chris mayne should get nominations

Totally agree JAF these would be my two choices, however I have a feeling that Mayne might miss out unless he can have a big game in round 22 against Collingwood (on a Friday night before a big audience). He has been consistently good but never truly outstanding, where as Dazzlers debut was outstanding IMO and will still be in the minds of the selectors.

Come on selectors reward consistency.:thumbsu:

Lol is it just me or has the status of a rising star weekly nomination really gone up?

Few names could get it.

Surprised Sam Lonergan hasn't got one. Surely he'd be a chance.

Razzle Dazzle should get it this week.

Simon Buckley has been averging 23 disposals in the last 6 weeks, 20 for the year.
Of course, it's something a player from your team can win even when you're season's been shit.

What a ridiculous idea.
They earned it, and most new players' form is up and down.

Read the thread, bozo. Of course it was a ridiculous idea. But it did raise some interesting points about the nomination process. Perhaps there should be no nominations in the first five rounds, and the last five games backloaded with two nominations each week, so that the judges have a bit of time to assess the candidates rather than take a wild guess after one or two games.

Lonergan (Ess)
Buckley (Melb)
Carlile (Port)
Bird (Syd)
Dalziell (Bris)
Mayne (Frem)
Mackay (Adel)
Valenti (Melb)
Tuck (Haw)

add lindsay thomas to that list amzingley hasnt been nominated yet, also eddy from st.kilda is a shot.

look out for the crows to have the first 4 nxt year with dangerfield, mackay, otten and taylor walker

Dave Mackay's played too many games to be eligible next year. Unless he gets nominated in the next 2 games, he'll miss out, which is a real shame as he's looked the most composed of anyone playing their first season of AFL that we've had on our list in a LONG time. Brilliant skills, rarely wastes a kick and has great vision. Looks very comfortable already, despite his tiny frame.

But yeah, we're quite excited by some of the youngsters on our list. After drafting horribly almost every year from our premiership years to 2003, we look to have had 4 good draft years in a row.

Razzle is the obvious one. From a Sydney perspective would like to see Bird get one, could even be Veszpremi if he is recalled this week. If not in the next two rounds then Vesz and Dangerfield definetes for next year.

Would have thought Dalziell and Carlile would be the two 'stand outs' to not yet have a nomination. Mayne has been very good at times, but Dalziell has literally been a stand out in almost every game he's played.

Hence making his reverse coleman superiority over Nathan Brown all the more impressive.

Needs a bit more analytics. Maybe against weaker teams the goals get kicked by a more varied number of opponents and from further out, ie less reliance on the full forward. Had a good year, though has Carlisle.

Ermm, I said he has let through less goals than Nathan Brown this year.

That is taking into account the fact that 1 Nathan Brown has played forward at times, and 2 Collingwood is a better side than Port, which as you said, means the ball has been in Port's defensive 50 more often.

Regardless of his attacking abilities (where once again Carlile is superior to Brown statistically), his defensive statistics are better than Brown's.

All I'm saying is Carlile is been a much better FB this year than Nathan Brown, and deserves a nomination.

If Carlile played for Collingwood he would have had one by Round 5.

Yep, the nomination process has gotta go.

TfTT makes some good points, but another factor is that if you're the Rd 22 nomination, you could potentially be the 22nd most deserving nominee for the round, seeing as 21 blokes before you are now ineligible having already been nominated.

I reckon, mini Brownlow style counting from said panel of experts, over 22 rounds, 3-2-1 for the best players fitting the criteria, winner from that one. Realistically, out of these 22, maybe 5 are a chance to win, the rest making up the numbers anyway.

I wonder if Dalziell might be kept in reserve by the powers that be as he will still be eligible to win next season. Half a dozen games probably won't see him winning the thing this year and he should be a safe bet for an early season nomination and serious consideration to win the whole thing next year.

He won't be eligible next year (too old).
