They’ll get a big shock in r 1, everyone’ll be shocked, we’ll end up smashing them.
We should..you bet CfC will take to the Tiges....if they are off ,we can
But to keep doing this in 2020
We need the Following
Dow ..will make it just not now..has to own inside mids..more tank..more efficient...we need 30 from him every game
Fish is good..we already can get 25 a game from him...we need him now in mids/wing/hff
Lob..good runner,solid....we need more from him soon
SPS....mature/cool/efficient.....he already is a tactical pivot.....own it Samo
TDK..amazing ability..too surprise....we will require his help
We got....a few besides these on the boil...majorly
Development is hugely important and so is winning games..we need both this year
If Murphy, simmo, kreuz were 3 yrs younger we would have been on maybe early as next year

Not too bad anyway. :thumbsu:

My side for round 1

B- Plowmen Casboult Jones
HB- Docherty Weitering Simpson
C- Walsh Cripps SPS
HF- Jsos McGovern Martin
F- Betts De Koning Gibbons
R- Kreuzer Murphy Curnow
Int- Fisher Newman Setterfield Dow
Em: Obrien Newnes Willo
I know it all depends on match up but i love
Big Cas in our backline has played is career best games as a defender
Marchy needs a good block of games in the vfl looked along way off it the other night
I'm really concerned on the amount of players that are under done and I just can't see us winning but I'm hoping we are at least competitive for four qrts

I like this team - as you stated specifically for Rnd 1.
Although I wonder if we’re a little too tall/slow in the backline.
I know the Tigers play Lynch & Jack R up fwd, as well as a resting ruck at times. But they still have a number of fleet-footed smalls (Castagna, Higgins, Rioli, Lambert, Stack, etc) who will not only beat our defenders to the crumbs but pressure and bottle up the ball exiting the 50.
This I believe is our main list weakness.
Our honestly feel our tall defenders are among the best in the whole AFL. Jones and JW are AA level, and believe Casboult would be if he played there every week. Our small/medium defenders are vulnerable.
- Plowman battles manfully - as is evidenced by his B&F finish in 2019 - and is probably our best option.
- Doc is coming from a long way back, and we need to prepare for the fact he may never return to his best.
- Simmo is a warrior, but can’t be relied upon week after week against the speedier forwards.
- Newman isn’t fast, and makes some questionable decisions in 50/50 contests.
- Willo needs some continuity, but is not a lockdown small defender - more of a running HBF type.
I like our chances this season against the big forwards such as Brown, Kennedy, Lynch, Hawkins, etc.
It’s the Walters, Cameron, Papley, Rozee types that really concern me.

I'm having another go at my round 1 team

B- Docherty Casboult Jones
HB- Williamson Weitering Newman
C- Walsh Cripps SPS
HF- Cuningham Kennedy Martin
F- Betts De Koning JSOS
R- Kreuzer Murphy Curnow
Int- Fisher Gibbons Setterfield O'Brien

Curnow and McKay are 100% missing with injury.

Plowman and Marchbank have both been struggling with injuries plus IMO Casboult is better as a defender and a head of both of them.

McGovern is in no form at all and need to come back in the VFL.

Simpson seem out of touch and Williamson did enough for me to think he has over taken Simpson. Newman is need for his meters gained.

Cripps, Murphy and Ed are our starting inside mids with Fisher, SPS, Walsh, Setterfield and Gibbons to rotate through there.

I think with our forward 6 the goal is to lock the ball in. Betts, Martin, JSOS, Cuningham and Kennedy with Fisher and Gibbons to rotate through can put a lot of pressure to keep the ball in our forward 50.

With this team IMO we have our best 6 defenders. We have a strong midfield to drive the ball into our forward 50 and a forward group that is hard working.

I know this team won't happen, I just wanted to do something a bit different and I think it works.

you have five guys that couldn’t get a game / or only played VFL last week in your Round 1 team for Richmond. Plus TDK who only played a half.

very unlikely brother.

I particularly loved his game against the Crows last season when he kicked 4 from fullback

The team that will play against Richmond:

Plowman Jones Simpson
Docherty Weitering Newman
Walsh Cripps Newnes
Martin Casboult Gibbons
Betts McGovern Silvagni

Kreuzer ECurnow Murphy

Dow Setterfield Fisher SPS

TDK won't play
Cuningham and Williamson unlikely to be selected

What we need to happen in order to play finals:

Williamson displaces Newman
LOB displaces Newnes
Cuningham focuses his way back in
McKay gets healthy
Charlie gets healthy
Kemp gets healthy to support Cripps as the second inside mid (since Setterfield doesn't seem like the guy and Stocker is out of favour)

WC, Tigers lost both games

GC, Dockers won both

Marsh Cup means nothing
The way they played... The established talent... All of these other logical reasons your statement holds no weight... No one gives a shit about the Marsh cup results. Just the process, trends and if there are drastic differences easily visible.

TDK must play. He’s done well enough. I cringe at the fact McGovern is a walk-up start

Absolutely!!

So when we were essentially running with a core strategy of senior bodies in pivotal roles, how would you describe the football we played for that first half?

Then Teague shuffled the magnets and handed the majority of those pivotal roles to our youth

Martin, Murphy played just over 2 qtrs, Cripps 3, Ed relaxed his tag on Neale, youth in the guts

He's not going to play.

Teague likes McGovern. McGovern likes Teague. The forward line functions better with McGovern in it. TDK is too raw to play an entire game against Richmond. He's not there, yet.

TDK is the 2nd best available key forward on form and a better 2nd ruck than caz at bounces. He is here and should play

After listening to Teague last night

Doc - Jones - Plowman
Newman - Weitering - Simpson
Walsh - Cripps - Fisher
Martin - Cas - JSOS
Betts - McGovern - Gibbons
Kruz - Curnow - Murphy
Setterfield - SPS - Newnes - Dow

Could and should have a spot for willo but I’d assume they will pick newnes for experience

SPS debuted without a preseason so I doubt an interrupted one will harm his chances

McGovern plays due to experience and I assume will be the deepest tall.

Tough but not impossible....

We’re all impressed with TDK so far but there must be concerns about his ability to run out full games. Played 51% and 35% of preseason games.

I have no doubt he’s a big part of the future of this club but we finally have enough depth now that he don’t have to force games into players who don’t quite have the required running capacity like we have in the last 4 seasons.

My reasoning is it looks like it could potentially be bigger risk to be solely relying on McGovern who’s had limited game time as our second KPF in round one.

TDK as a temporary stop-gap measure to create the contest for the small fleet and free up MCG until McKay’s back which is hopefully only one or two weeks. Shown enough for mine

It’s a risk either way. But also gives more flexibility for Levi to drop back in the hole if required.

Yep, I saw that too. Didn't see a team that was finalised though, didn't see a team that'd get smashed by anyone either. Think we'll take it to Richmond, who should beat us, doesn't mean they will.

We'd be a serious show with Curnow and McKay.

Just lack the tall firepower at the moment to beat Richmond.

catch them with our unpredictability : MM, TDK and Levi . TDK could fly under the radar and catch them napping. MM is MM- capable of anything on his day, and Levi is the new and improved Mk II. They could surprise . Add Eddie and Martin and we have some real forward pressure and X factor

As a random comment, been a lot of commentary on Newnes and a fair bit of it negative however the coaches seem to be watching a different game to our supporters on here.

Amos this time was speaking of him in glowing terms re the Brizzy game and he seems to be a lock for round 1.

I guess we will find out round 1: Amos can believe all he wants, and it either works or it doesnt. We are not privy to the role that he was given. Amongst all the chaos of a game I reckon the coaches are looking at specific skills related to a role they have in mind for certain players. Will it all come together against the Tiges- Hopefully
