Carlton (in the last 4 weeks in particularly) play a very similar style of footy as the Bulldogs.
Anyone else noticed this?

Simpson's 'uncontested possessions' are Simpson standing in a hole or Simpson intercepting opposition attacks or Simpson gut-running to position.

gut-running? Hardly. The bloke can barely move, particularly last week against Port Adelaide at the MCG.

He stands in a hole because he no longer has the pace or agility to keep up with an opposition forward and the coaches have directed him to cover the space. Intercepting miskicks from opposition entries is hardly an art form.

No shame in admitting he went on one year too long.

I liked Simmo. I just don't think he's up to it in 2015.

In my opinion he's outside our best 22, we don't need 5 small defenders and during a rebuild he's holding back the kids.

We may not need a "small defender" but I reckon we definitely need someone to keep the backline in order and functioning. He's one of our most experienced players, and in addition to his ridiculously selfless style of play (go watch the Adelaide game and tell me he only gets "cheap" possessions) he's our backline general and does a lot of work setting up our rebound play.

Make that the last few weeks. ;)

Okay well, I've posted my team earlier. No one actually critiqued the team itself, just lots of vitriol "OMG, Simmo".

In the overall scheme of things we've seen how Buckley, Graham and now Holman have flourished under a new coach. How many more gems might we uncover if they weren't being hold back by lack of opportunity?

We can't play all the kids at once.

They will get their chance.

Hey, that's not a bad idea.

The NB's had a record-breaking win on the weekend, we could just bring them all in for anyone over the age of 23.

Come on Az, it's gotta be gradual and you know it. Simpson might be labouring a bit more these days, but he's got plenty to offer, and will continue do so until he physically cannot go on.

Fair enough but I stand by my statement he has slipped behind fellow small defenders Tuohy, Yarran, Docherty and Buckley and our future would be better served getting games into another midfielder such as Boekhorst or Whiley.

25 disposals, 9 rebound 50s (game high), 8 marks (at least 3 were intercept marks from what I saw).

He's going okay for his age.

Simpson's kicking is sometimes atrocious - but his organisational ability down back ie his footie smarts make up for his shortcoming as for as kicking under pressure goes. I looks like Docherty's season may well be over if he does have case of the dreaded OP...so all the more reason to keep Simpson on field. harder for me to make the case for Carrazzo - who is now fumbling every possession and whose kicking has descended to new lows - definitely age catching up with him.

Next year will see Sheehan/Byrne back and pressing for inclusion - pressure is building for positions all over the park.

Question, Azul. Do you get to the games?
