I'll stop dropping Simpson when he shows some form. He was marginally better than last week.

His trusty left boot has deserted him. Turns it over from 40m or kicks to Kreuzer with 2 opponents on him, leaving him no chance to mark.

"Kick it to me, sideways".
Wut? No.

Simpson provides a cool head down back. He kicks it sideways to settle the team and make the switch...you'll notice not many teams back themselves to get it straight down the guts anymore. Every team kicks it across half back to get it over to the other side and make their way up the boundary. He is a leader, a motivator and a driver. He has turned it over a couple of times, but ****, if we drop everyone who's turned it over then we've got no team left.

In: Jamison, Boekhorst, Dick, Whiley

Surely you jest! If you want to drop Courage/Leadership and a determination that a lot of our younger guys can learn from you go ahead.
Simmo is the heart of this club always gives his all and never shirks a contest a true blue.

He's a passenger. Uncontested possessions across the backline look good for supercoach but don't hurt the opposition.

Tuohy, Yarran, Buckley and Docherty are far more creative.

He is also brave, hard and tough. We can't have enough players like him. Heart and soul of the team IMO. I have a man crush on Simo just like I did with Kenny Hunter and the Dominator.

You wouldnt take any of those latter blokes running backwards into a contest though would you?

I think Simpson has been pretty good down back this year. More than happy for him to remain in the team.

One thing I will say is that he seems to be finding it harder than ever to swing round to his left to get off the kick. So he's sort of running around in circles, or kicking sideways more than normal.

It's almost like after 12 years of being one of the most one-sided players in the AFL, opposition teams have finally realised and are making it harder for him to get onto his left....?

Maybe Sav should help him learn to kick on his right. Although if Liam Jones is anything to go by, perhaps you can't teach an old dog new tricks ;):D

If this bloke had half the stuff that Simmo has he would be one of the best players in the AFL. Not just a quick good player.

There is no way that Rowe will be dropped.

Menzel (Inj), Ellard (Omit), Wood (Omit)
Jamo, Boek/Tutt, Watson/Jones

Wood ultra stiff but Doggies may go in with just the one ruckman, Jamo to take on Boyd, not setting the world on fire but he is a massive unit with a tonne of potential.

Simmo? A passenger? Are you fer serz right now?

4 tackles in his last 3 games. A lack of pace and agility show him up repeatedly wrong-footed by younger opponents.

King of uncontested possessions, relying on opposition turnovers and the aforementioned 'tempo footy' marks sideways that allow the opposition to man up downfield.

Much like Rowe looking short all day yesterday against that man mountain, Dixon

Thankfully the Dogs don't really have anyone that sized.

Who goes to Stringer? Buckley?

White.

Stringer is a pretty big unit who can mark on the lead and kick goals at ground level.
Too big for Buckley.

Docherty? Absolutely, he's courage personified.
On a scale of 1 to Simpson....hes about a 7. Don't get me wrong, I actually do see where you're coming from as he wont be on our list for too much longer, but I dont see any players screaming for his position in the twos.

Maybe once Bryne is back up, I'd agree as it would be more like for like - but its way to early to tell after 1 quarter of AFL.

Rowe to Boyd
Jamison to Crameri
White to Stringer

Is White the only match up for Stringer?

Dick, Whiley and Tuohy are other options, they give away a couple of cms (187, 188, 187 respectively vs Stringer at 190) but should have the ability to go with him when he pushes up the ground. This is the sorta game I'd love to have a Jack Frost type from Collingwood. That quick, tall defender that knows when to leave his man and has the athleticism to influence other contests.

with the 4 blokes I named above, in my opinion, having surpassed him just how many small defenders can we carry?

The impression I got from reading the VFL reports - Jamison, Fields and Dick all staking a claim to get a gig in our defensive 50.

I appreciate he's a fan favourite but I don't think his role warrants continued selection when we have other options in the back half.

Yes but when he misses a stationary target, there's no one behind him to stop the opposition running into goal.

It's absolutely vital he hits his targets.

Rowe and Simpson were on par yesterday, but always cops it more than the other here.

It's because their mistakes are glaringly obvious.

And on par? Dixon gave him a bath before he came off. Was not one of his better games. I'd expect him to bounce back though.

Find the discussion on Rowe and Simpson perplexing. These guys have heart, play for the jumper, blonde women and couldn't give two shits about metrosexual crap like shaving their balls and man-buns.

Vs Bulldogs:

Out: Menzel (inj), Docherty (inj), Ellard
In: Jamison, Boekhorst, Dick

B
Zach Tuohy, Sam Rowe, Michael Jamison
HB
Kade Simpson, Simon White, Dylan Buckley
C

Chris Yarran, Andrew Carrazzo, Ed Curnow
HF

Dennis Armfield, Levi Casboult, Tom Bell
F

Andrejs Everitt, Lachie Henderson, Blaine Boekhorst
FOL

Matthew Kreuzer, Patrick Cripps, Marc Murphy

I/C
Nick Graham, Cameron Wood, Nick Holman
SUB
Matthew Dick

White on Stringer, so that Tuohy can afford to run off his man more. Rowe gets Boyd and Jamison takes Grant (or Crameri if he is back). Buckley to Dahlhaus... we don't match up too badly unless they have both Grant and Crameri playing which stretches us a bit.

Would love to see Cripps and Bontempelli line up against each other and just duke it out lol. Should be a good match.
