I have just done some stats on last season form of the Lions and the Hawks is goes as follows:

Round 12 2009 Hawks v Lions
Lions and Hawks going into that match were on 6-5 record, but Lions having been playing in good form.
Round 16 2009 Lions form guide they were on 9-6 record
Hawks form guide they were on 7-8 record.
It was obvious all year that the Lions were having a much better year than the Hawks.
Last time we played them at Tassie, Buddy kicked 1-2, Roughie kicked 1-1
Jb kicked 5 straight and Db kicked 0
Also Willo kicked 3 goals.
Lions 93-Hawks 51.

2010 Hawks form guide:round 12 2010 Hawks:6-6 Lions:6-7
Round 15 2010:Hawks:8-7 Lions:5-10

Comparisons of last year when we played them they had a much better year and were in much better form and we were shocking, though this year going by the form guide we should actually beat them with ease on our current form and their current form.
I'm tipping a big win from us despite no Buddy, after all without a good midfield Buddy wouldn't be kicking any goals, our midfield craps all over the Lions midfield.
Hawks by 5-6 goals.:thumbsu:

The selection of Sewell as an emergency along with the fact he has travelled to Tassie makes me think that he will probably come in. As mentioned earlier in this post there is a striking resemblence to the Lewis situation earlier this season against West Coast.

So it could easily be Buddy out Sewell in. On the other hand it can't be discounted that somebody else (apart from Mitchell) might be under an injury cloud and that Sewell could come in for them. Last week was a very tough game and we had a few that looked a bit sore after it.

Hrmmmm....This may be true and as I live in QLD I can't exactly watch him at Box Hill, but surely Sewell is more valuable on the field than WhiteX.

No arguments from me on that. As I said, Sewell is one of my favourite players and shouldn't have been dropped IMO. However, I think WhiteX's selection may be horses for courses as he has proved that he is capable of kicking goals (which will be needed in Buddy's absence and is not Sewell's strength). With Buddy playing Sewell is definitely ahead of WhiteX, but this week WhiteX will be more valuable for the team as he is quicker (Brisbane are pretty slow), more skillful and versatile. If Sewell doesn't come in as a late replacement, he will no doubt come out firing against the Saints.

The upside to this is that I think this could be Lisle's debut game. Really hope he gets a run, and has an impact. BH followers speak highly of his performance, so hopefully he can bring that to the big time. Good luck to the kid if he gets a run.

Lance Franklin to miss with ankle injury

From The Age website.

Hawthorn star Lance Franklin has been ruled out of the club's clash against the Brisbane Lions in Launceston tomorrow.
The 23-year-old rolled his ankle in a marking contest with teammate Jarryd Roughead at training on Tuesday and didn't fly with the club to Tasmania today.
Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said it wasn't worth the risk to play Franklin.

Basically, damn it.

Agree with that madhawksfan. WhiteX must be needed for team structure this week more than Sewell is needed in the midfield.

In your opinion, who comes in for Buddy? There may also be another out as all emergencies have apparently flown over to Launceston. Sewell will play is my gut feeling. As has been said, very similar to the Lewis situation a while back.

Hope not, Renouf was mention after the Cats game he had a sore ankle and Ozzie and Ellis both had shoulder zingers what ever they are, but maybe they all went up so we can see what the weather is to make the final change..

Sewell was obviously dropped due to poor form, well so you are told so why would they fly him down here to tassie as just an emergency when he could be finding some form with boxhilll?? Surely they would not want him out for more than 1 week so he he would be back for the saints game. this obviously tells you that either he will play for buddy or mitchell will not play otherwise, the exercise of dropping him to find form is a total waste of time if he does not play ANYWHERE!!

Re: Lance Franklin to miss with ankle injury

Little late to the party are we?

We've been cursing about this for 2 hours now

Sewell in I reckon.

Yeah probably, I didn't know. Stupid work get's in the way of refreshing realfooty.com.au.

Just saw the story but when I came here it wasn't in its own thread. I see it now but that's only if you go to the last page of 'Buddy has a rolled ankle'.

Ha ha merged. Sorry Mods.

The Sewell thing is a silver lining, don't have to actually drop him but he got the message, hopefully.

What about the sausage story Gal?:)
I refuse to think of myself or the players as sausages. I reckon that was probably his weakest analogy, but good on him from trying it out. :D

"The Hawks have taken all three emergencies to Tasmania, meaning Franklin could be replaced by either centreman Brad Sewell, who was surprisingly omitted for tomorrow’s clash, Jordan Lisle or or Shane Savage."

"Clarkson said Sewell was dropped due to form, so could earn a reprieve depending on team balance, but the Hawks would wait to see if the Lions made any late changes.

Brisbane captain Jonathan Brown will make his return against the Hawks, while Simon Black will miss with an ankle injury"

Do they think Brisbane is foxing with Black ?

If we swap like for like then Lisle (he would be my pick). However, I suspect it will be Sewell (unless he comes in for Mitchell or someone else). Must be other players in doubt if all 3 emergencies went down. Just hope it's not Renouf or Skipper.

Black has ankle problams he wont come in, hmmm maybe Brown or Fev wont play, Fev looks very sore and slow or maybe even Goose.

Clarkos on Sen now talking, I have changed my opinion about this whole Sewell thing, I think Clarko has gone back to his tough ways again of dropping players who don't perform to make a statement, we have been asking for this from him for a long time now.
Also he hinted at a couple of Lions players in doubt which is why they are bringing all 3 emergencies to Tassie

Unless they are high profile recruits eh ?
