If there needs to be one statement omission then I think it should be Murphy. If we are indeed nursing him to 300 then that’s a competition wide statement of our lack of ruthlessness from top to bottom.

Murphy is what he is these days and has been for some time.
The question has to be asked of those that are selecting him.
The assumption that Carlton rate personal milestones/friendships/relationships over team development and performance can only be drawn.
Is it any wonder the club has been held in contempt by the rest of the competition for years ...

Think the new rule changes are a bit of a beat up when games are in infancy. Coaches will shuffle zones and or positional structures to combat the changes and once and shut games down

We also saw that the tempo foott the Cats played last night can and will combat these changes

I agree with you on player positional errors, Setters is an inside mid, not a wingman, SPS isn't a HB and so on. Improve this aspect and it improves our output dramatically

Lastly, most importantly, add the tempo that is needed to the gamplan
The problem we are going to have playing tempo footy is the number of inconsistent /unreliable kicks we have in the side. It would be well over half. Someone is always likely to break the chain and turn it over.

The club owes Murphy nothing and he should be sent to the retiree home but true to form they’ll ensure he’s first picked.
Setterfield should be dropped for his weak as you like effort for now two games, but I bet they won’t.
Williamson has been useless in two games and should be out, but you wait and see they’ll keep him in.

the right outs should be Casboult and the three above, for any combination of OMac, JSOS, McGovern, Betts, Cunningham and Stocker.

E Curnow is struggling but he’s been a machine who at least runs two ways and doesn’t flimsy his way through a game unlike some of the above mentioned.

SPS sure frustrates but he shouldnt and won’t be dropped.

those asking for Plowman to go are having a laugh. Won’t happen and probably shouldn’t.

the problems are mostly in the middle of the park and some passengers who should board the train to the VFL for a while / forever.

All sides have turnovers, even with tempo, but those turnovers expose you less going the other way, as generally it allows you to push forward as a unit, allowing better setups defensively

While we generally kicked poorly, a good reminder is the CG game last year of how tempo footy controls a game.

This side is capable of it, Teague needs to be more open to it

OUT...
Casboult- very poor both games & obviously injured can’t run mark or apply contested efforts...
Murphy- past it as a midfielder & offers very little as a forward and zero defensively...
Williamson- poor both games looks a little hesitant & prefer he had more time as a winger...
Curnow- rest this week/ been solid more a decision for more speed and run and skill on a quick Marvel deck...

FIX IT...
Setterfield- his strength is his inside and contested work in the midfield, should be part of the centre bounce rotations..,
SPS- wasted natural instinctive midfield/forward talent, his game is not suited to playing as a defender, lacks the one on one ability, offers little as a rebounder with disposal or metres gained...

INS...
McDonald- liked what he offers as a forward and can chop out as the relief ruck, gives us more speed and agility in both area’s...
Silvagni- if fit a no brainer looked and played a sensational first half last week, looked in wonderful touch possibly taking his game up another level...
Cuningham- dangerous speed machine on the fast deck one who has been ridiculously denied midfield time, can play forward or on a wing...
Stocker- perfect game to get him in and play him midfield and halfback adds a hard edge and his superb kicking skills can offer us something we are desperately in need of...

Like your outs and ins and totally agree with ditching the SPS defensive experiment. We need to try SPS in a more attacking role to best utilise his talent and challenge him to put those much talked about skills to the test. He hasn't always played this short kicking game. He's a smart footballer and he needs to be taking the game on and not being so conservative. I thought he played better on Thursday night in terms of his intensity but we need more of that from him plus a desire to take the game on.

Can't agree with you about Setterfield. You don't have to be playing midfield to hit a contest hard. He rarely if ever does it and I've seen some very questionable efforts from him two weeks in a row. I think he needs to pay the price as well. I'm not sure about his long term future with us.

Having said all this our MC don't have the balls to be this reactive to a very disappointing loss.

You actually need a whole of field system and drilled structures and patterns to play keepings off . If people actaully watch sides liker Geelong play - they are an order of magnitude higher skilled with their kicking game and they will not play blokes that miss tackles dont make tackles or get shrugged off.

Carlton is nowhere near their level of skill or hardness - we play blokes that wouldn't get a run in their VFL squad.

Fogarty was a class above most Carlton players- simply because he has been through proper development and understands standards of good football.

I think we are kidding ourselves tbh -we are middling at best and rely on individual moments of brilliance- Carlton isn't a team - it is a collection of individuals.

He should have already been told by now he’s playing 2’s. This club can’t keep rewarding mediocre efforts.
Suspect Plowman survives if Walters plays.
Williamson and Casboult will be sweating. Hopefully McGovern or even Kennedy comes in for Levi.

Plowman does get chopped up vs Collingwood, part of their gameplan to isolate. He also did get some intercept marks & disposal was pretty good.

What’s his track record like vs FD’s, ok? Though Longmuir is ex-Coll.

FB: Plowman - Jones - Docherty
HB: Saad - Weitering - SPS

C: Newnes - Cripps - ECurnow
OB: Pittonet - Williams - Walsh

HF: Fogarty - McGovern - Martin
FF: Fisher - McKay - JSilvagni

Interchange - Marchbank/Stocker (D), Gibbons (F), Setterfield (OB) and Murphy (W)
Sub - Dow

Casboult out for McGovern or McDonald
Williamson out for Marchbank or Stocker
Dow out for Silvagni

Its unbelievable the negative feedback he is getting. Played against the best team defence in rd 1 and had 5 scoring shots. Played on the best key defender in the league last night and kicks 4.

If he carry's on this "poor form" everyone is talking about he will kick near 70 goals this season.
I don’t think it is poor form as in skill wise that people are concerned with. For example his kicking is good and hands are also good.

The real question is why does he fall over so easily and why doesn’t he run out on a lead. Strength/fitness? I know it’s more difficult for taller players to game core strength but he’s been in the system for a number of years now. So shouldn’t be any excuses.

Murphy doesnt look particularly sharp does he fitness or effort wise....but who would rite him off when we know he can be a match winner....

keep him in......nobody would drop him....

Feel for Marc that shoulder injury (early in career) has stuffed up his tackling in his twilight.
Also never been the same player since the Hodge incident (which was intentional) but deemed unintentional.
I can see him getting in the top players this week, he does love to play Freo and often performs.
I'm a fan of Murphy, but this club needs to move on from players the opposition play through.

I hung around and gave them both barrels!

Players were weak campaigners
Have never abused players but I've questioned their decision making at times - what are you doing? who the **** was that to? you're allowed to tackle, Trent, are you trying to kill him? on his chest, on his chest! what where you thinking, take the shot, tell him he's clear, ffs!

So, according to Teague we need Betts out there to apply the tackling pressure in our f50.

Fmd mate if our coach is still pinning his hopes on Eddie Betts then we're in big trouble.... very big trouble...
Agreed.
Plus Fog is doing a pretty good job doing this at the moment.

Moving Walsh to an outside role just so Setterfield can play inside is dumb

Walsh is miles better than Setterfield, so if Setterfield can’t learn to play outside he’s in trouble. But we aren’t robbing Peter to pay Paul. Walsh has been our best player so far by a considerable distance.
Agreed. Walsh is currently very good inside and is a future star in the making. Locks for inside are a combination of Walsh Cripps Williams Martin fogarty and Dow (still developing). Hopefully stocker and kemp are not far behind. These guys all provide physicality.

Run! Run! .... RUUUUN FFS!!

Stay on your feet!!!!

Maybe my most used: shepherd!!

Mind you, these days I usually just sit there with a flabbergasted look on my face.
