Haven't seen the game since half time, and watched the last two minutes then. Dion's free kick and 50m penalty seemed to be the fair enough call by the ump. HOWEVER, McCartin was definitely gone for HTB a minute earlier there is no way not to call that. And if the whistle was put away then why was it pulled out for the Sydney player who staged 20 seconds later. Two more clear calls which the umpires should be scrutinised for instead of the last decision. Also Dusty seems to be pissed off enough at the end that I can see his Y&B passion still going.

Going in I wasn't too optimistic about this game, and I think again we're heading in the right direction. Hopefully cool heads and some reminders about keeping our discipline in check should get us ready for big boy month.

Out: Castagna
In: Lynch, Balta, Pickett, Cumberland, Dow

Damn, I know this is a bad result but damn there is some competition for our bottom spots which is exciting going forward.

Castagna isn't the issue. The issue is the coaching and selection panel. Just cause Castanga is doing the team things that warrant a spot doesn't mean he should be getting a game on that alone, that does nothing for him in terms of him being able to get back to his best. A week or two finding the ball in the two's could help when he does return, a week or two with Cumberland or Stack in the senior team could be the difference in a game like today, giving the opposition something new to think about, throwing a spanner in the works to their game plan.

The roles he plays and position he plays is very unrewarding. Especially in a game like today where there is limited space, shocking conditions and a lack of structure.

Come finals time with a full complement of players, we can get away with having players like Castagna simply playing his role. If he has a good game disposal/goals wise it a bonus but it more important he does the things he is in the team for. But during the home and away season it's the time to get the best out of him, develop others in the event he is struggling and find the right balance between having the best team out there and having the most talented team out there. We can't have a full complement of superstars, someone has to do the dirty work which is why he is in the team but sometimes doing that dirty work wears you down, which is the situation he finds himself in at the moment.

I don't think competition has anything to do with it. It's not a case of Castagna not trying out there if anything he is trying too hard and making simple mistakes.
That's why he needs competition. If he is trying too hard, then let someone else who has more composure go at it. If he then finds the right composure, then he can come back in the side. Castagna can play much better than how he's been playing for much of this season even when playing this role. He used to lay a heap of tackles, bob up and kick a bag of goals/behinds, get disposals etc. The only issue back in those days was his accuracy. But that is basically drying up now. Whether he's not trying enough or trying too much, he needs to be dropped because it's keeping someone out of the side that could potentially help us (e.g. Cumberland, Sonsie).

This mainly falls on the coaches because they're keeping him in the side. They need to recognise that he's not performing his role well. If he is performing his role well right now, then they need to look at updating his role.

pardon the intrusion but fair call imo, unnecessary and forceful
Rioli had just been nudged into the fence and he can't bump the arm of the offending player on his way past??
I've been watching footy for nearly four decades and if that's a free then the game is changing very dramatically, very quickly. I've never seen anything like it. And not many fans seem happy about the change.

Edwards was BOG in first half when we had a 5-goal lead.. yet you find a way to blame him for loss. Tarrant kept McDonald to 6 touches, 2 marks and no score.

Castagna putrid. Ross makes way too many basic errors. Bolton/Nank/Grimes give away 50m or downfield goals. Dusty misses a sitter. Soldo ineffectual. But yeah, let’s blame Edwards and Tarrant for the loss tonight. Your opinion will be respected more if it provides some balance.

can't blame tarrant ,, no way. Edwards was ok- but my usual complaint is that he is past it.

Gibcus played well, not all Buddy's goals was his fault, so can't blame Gibcus for that- Buddy had his kicking boots on today.

Our discipline sucks......how many times can i say it ? how many months can this keep going ? our soft give away frees are the worst in the comp, --Dimma needs to show some balls and call this. take the player off for a quarter and you'll see it will stop quick smart.

Our selection of players sucks.......Keep on playing George - and what is surprising that he has a fair amount of supporters in here. MY god he is bad.

How many times can a guy fumble?--------he has to hold the record for that in the AFL. The game has gone past him.

same with Ross, apart from his debut he has shown nothing, needs to be moved on.

Our match day coaching was average........Bolton and short should've gone middle to give us some run. We lost momentum and without run you cant get it back.....hence my comments on not playing too many aging stars and playing more kids.......

Instead of counting sheep tonight whilst trying to get to sleep after that horrid, but typical 2022 loss. You can count the following and you will sleep like a baby who's just had his arse smothered with Johnson's Baby powder after a bath:

TARRANT IS SHIT

thats when their run on started

Lynch would be treated like a serial killer, once again why I don't trust the media.
Good point about bringing Lynch up. His hit was much less than Buddy's on Cotchin and some of them were flabbergasted that Lynch got off. I don't see that level of energy for Buddy right now from the media

You think they'll crucify Buddy? Who has one of the best records of getting off on appeal? Who happens to be indigenous? During Sir Doug Nicholls round celebrating Indigenous contribution to our game? You're having a laugh.

I like how the media are defending the non 50m penalty saying it is good to see common sense prevail, yet 90% of the frees tonight would not be paid using that same common sense. Once again, no consistency and a shift in interpretation.

Buddy ran past the ball and tried to kill Shane Edwards with an elbow a few years back and the commentators were trying to get him only a fine

What’s the bet we draft another half back flanker mid season draft. Club will never draft an inside mid.
will martin bro
