First live at the game for me in a long time last week so might just have noticed things that normally happen that you dont see on TV but Taranto looked disinterested all day long. It was strange. Usually when good players are having quiet ones or getting tagged you see them fire up and try push through it. Im not sure he just seemed flat.

On the other hand watching Mansell chase, pressure and hit bodies all day long was awesome. No wonder the coaches and playing group love him. Doing all the things Baker used to do for us. Enjoying watching his improvement

Sonsie for Banks (play him in the guts)
Lynch for Fawcett (Personally would go Bauer but think Fawcett is the unlucky one
McAuliffe Sub and Kaleb out

Taranto was a bit part mid at GWS besides one season and not part of their main rotation with plenty of forward time. They moved out of there at first opportunity as it was best for their team. We will need to do the same whether it's now or later.

I'm not suggesting he plays only forward but his ratio is out whack now. Way too much midfield when he can and should push forward and impact.

Taranto was a 40-50% centre bounce attendance guy at GWS on average for each season. He's pushing 85% CBA at Richmond which means he never leaves our midfield unless he's on the bench.

He's proven he's effective up forward when you cut down his midfield time which would allow faster and more skillful players to get more midfield opportunity.
That wasn't because Taranto was no good, it's because they had too many inside mids and had to fit them all in. Taranto, Hopper, Green, Coniglio all spent plenty of time forward when they were together.

Green was 58% CBA in 2022 then jumped to 84% once Taranto and Hopper left. Coniglio also went from 49% to 78%.

Yes, I agree. But we're following a similar track to GWS.

We just drafted Josh Smillie and and Sam Lalor. Two big inside mids who will need midfield time going forward. McAluffie needs game time etc. Also the first pick standout this year (so far) Dyson Sharp is another inside mid.

Taranto will have to move out of the midfield to allow for more talented players. The question is just when it happens. Probably as soon as later this year or 2026. I would be doing it now.

So McIntosh hardly went to Cripps but still somehow shut him down if you listen to his other supporters. Also if McIntosh’s run with role was so effective why did he hardly go to Cripps. You seem to be contradicting yourself.

Re watch the game and open your eyes.

Of course butler will play against us.

Looks less likely now, our injury report today shows him as still 1-2 weeks away. Was in full training today though.

Boxshall and Travalgia are also in the frame to debut.

King definitely won’t be playing that’s for sure.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t have him spend a bit of time forward. But when he won the B&F in a GF team in 2019 he played mostly midfield. He averaged 27.7, 5.3 clearances and kicked just 11 goals in 26 games.

His most goals in a season was 2023 with us when he kicked 19 - playing midfield. His next most in a season is 13 goals. So any narrative he’s some sort of quality half forward or goal kicker or that he has thrived in that role at GWS is wrong IMO.

I’d be happy to rest him forward and split his time 80/20. But he’s a midfielder first and foremost and he’s an excellent one - he just needs a better mix of mids around him to compliment his contested/clearance skillset.

Unless elite like Toby Greene, Small/medium forwards need elite speed in the modern game to lock the ball in and prevent transition from D50 to F50 - TT would be exposed in that role worse than in the midfield. Give him small snippets there, but he’s a midfielder, and if there’s no spot for him in future in the mids trade him.

I did watch and I saw Cripps get 32 possessions, 9 clearances and 216 gained and then I watched McIntosh play on Jase Burgoyne who got 32 possessions and 2 goals. How many bad sets of stats will it take for you to see that as a winger McIntosh is not as good as he was last year and certainly not as good as he was 3 years ago and playing him as a tagger doesn't hide that. He is declining and playing him ahead of the kids is nuts.

Ins: Sonsie, McAuliffe, Lynch

Out: Banks (conc), Fawcett, Smith (was sub last week needs a full game in the VFL)

Tresize to be sub this week.

  • Bauer very luck to keep his spot this week but we need to see how he responds.
  • Ross lucky to keep his spot, Tresize makes way only because he spent a lot of time in the game last week but didn't do much. Ross have proven he can play wing.
  • Smith unless he is playing half back or back pocket it's hard to make a case with the likes of Trainor, Brown, Short, Vlastuin & Broad all ahead of him. As he was sub last week, he needs a full game in the VFL.

Broad, Miller, Trainor
Short, Blight, Vlastuin
Ross, Taranto, McIntosh
Mansell, Armstrong, Lalor
Campbell, Lynch, Green

Nankervis, Hopper, Dow

Brown, Sonsie, Bauer, McAuliffe

Blight gets 2nd ruck duties when Nank is resting, Brown slots into the backline to help cover.

If Mansell doesn't pass fitness test on his shoulder, I'd be keen to give Alger a debut.

Mansell is injured and i think he wont play
Going by Caesar's report Sonsie will play foward

Out : Mansell , Banks , Fawcett
In : Lynch , Sonsie , McAuliffe (sub)

When we are Shite, we still always manage a win against a GF team in that season
so we would beat them in the grand final too

just cant get there

Going by Caesar's report Sonsie will play foward
Of course. Why on earth would you want a midfielder involved in the midfield rotations. Play him as a forward and then complain when he doesn't dominate in a position he's not suited to.
