Autopsy Rolled over to Freo after leading by 41 at qtr time, what's wrong @ the kennel?

I wasn't aware that last year's grand final had not been reviewed by Beveridge or the players, but I was shocked to find out about it.
Every player should have assessed every play of, at least, the third quarter.
They are professional footballers FFS.
Can you imagine an NFL coach getting to say "Oh, we won't review that one, let's look at the positives in the future"
There is no bloody future if you don't know what you've done wrong in the past.

It was shocking to anyone who's ever worked HR or dealt with collective trauma. It worried the shit out of me pre-season when players were talking about not reviewing it. It worried me more when Bevo himself said it was in the rear view mirror now.

Now it worries me that no one at the club called this out and did anything about it, and now, 12 months on, its rearing its ugly head again.

Bont not leadership material? Wtf??

Clarifying my post, he deserves to be in the leadership group and a mentor.
He’s not the type of on field presence to pull a team together when times get tough though. He’s a quiet honest bloke but sometimes that’s not enough

I’m a fan of Bevo, but I don’t think he’s going to hang around as long as some think.
He’s heart lies deep down at Moorabbin, and he’s end destiny will be to coach there. My guess is that’s where he will be in 2024, whether we fire or roll over next year.
He’s a deep passionate man.

As for the team, we can fix the backline. It’s the midfield where the problems lie. It’s good, it’s deep, but it’s a long way from the best in the league. We need to recruit a couple of young, modern midfielders. Keep it fresh, a bit of spark, a bit of pace, some hunger to get that hard ball. Hunger to make your mark in the game.

As much as I love Bont playing for the club he's not leadership material which the same can be said for most of them. They lack that hard nosed player who can pull up and rally the team when things start getting tough.

Currently it's non existent.
Not sure if that's true, I noticed Bont directing traffic a lot and even the commentators mentioned it. Problem is there is hardly any support, who are our other leaders right now? The fact that guys like Hunter and Macrae have been vice captains shows a big gulf in leadership between Bont and the next group of leaders imo.

All welcome to their opinion but I’ve seen Bontempelli give at least a dozen sprays personally and I’m sure there’s way more I haven’t seen.

Meanwhile you hardly ever see guys like Macrae or Hunter directing team mates. We missed Libba badly imo, he's basically our spiritual vice captain.

I'd seriously consider playing Naughton down back with Buku Kharmis. Kharmis needs a heap of games next year. Then we can still use Gardner and Keath. Then have Red with Dale / Or William's.

Bring Caleb Daniel to the half forward line to address the inside 50s.

Then play Darcy and JUH up forward to fast track their development . Then play english 60-70% up forward and either bloody play Sweet in the ruck or Lobb if we are still keen on him, interchanging with English

Then draft some midfield kids who have elite disposals and speed etc. And use West, Garcia and Weightman as the small forwards with an emphasis on defensive forward pressure and locking the ball in

The criticisms of Bontempelli are ridiculous. He can't do it all himself. He's one bloke. He does everything a human could to inspire the team and get us over the line. It
I don't think we should be criticising Bontempelli. I do think we should be criticising what level of leadership support we have around him. He is a brilliant 'lead by example' type but as you say he is one man. Clearly this group needs more than that.

''WESTERN Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge admits he's not sure if his side ever got over the trauma from last year's Grand Final defeat after its disappointing season ended at the hands of Fremantle on Saturday night.''

I was willing to give Bevo the benefit of the doubt, I'm not in the 4 walls, I don't know what happens behind the scenes, but this right here, is not even excusable anymore.

Fans across BigFooty, Woof and WB-Discord were saying before this season started that the club simply ignoring the trauma from the grand final was a mistake, it has been mentioned in this thread several times over the last 24 hours, and now not even 24 hours later our head coach is going ''hmm yeah maybe we should of maybe addressed that 70+ POINT THRASHING IN A GRAND FINAL THAT MAYBE HAD SOME LINGERING DAMAGE TO THE TEAMS PSYCH''

He is incompetent. Straight up incompetent and there is no excusing the fact that the HEAD COACH couldn't get our team right mentally, that's his ******* job afterall.

President and CEO need to step in here and do something about this, the lack of reviewing from our grand final should be a sackable offense, this entire season now falls on Bevo's shoulders for me, and I can very much see why our other assistant coaches all walked away so late in the pre-season.
I teach Year VCE maths. Imagine this scenario. Students collectively crap the bed in their end of Year 11 exam. Appalling results. Them-: ‘We need to review the exam so we do better next year and don’t make the same mistakes when under pressure’. Me: ‘ Nah, don’t worry about it. Trust me. We won’t review our exam under performance but I am going to tell you a story about a salty dog….’

This all makes too much sense unfortunately so no chance of happening

Thought Marra started to look dangerous in the third quarter and got in some good positions but unfortunately couldn't hold on to any. One nice mark drifting in from the side, looked like Royce Hart. Seen gilmpses of it, reckon his talent will burst out more consistently next season.
He was getting a lot of attention off the ball. Some unfair, most was good defending..

Again he has looked like our most dangerous forward since the Melbourne win.

The best move of the night was English being dragged and Darcy in the ruck.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much and English was having a rest but **** he was awful just before that.

There is much to pile onto Beveridge for, but 5 players gormleslly flying the flag when the game was sliding away was the dumbest thing Ive ever seen.

And Ive watched an entire season where our players have given up 5 metres on the mark for no tangible benefit.

Beveridge should've run over and punched each one of them in the face to focus their attention...

Treloar arriving at the end when we already outnumbered them 4 to 2 in the dumb skirmish was akin to the last clown piling out of the clown car - all whilst Bevo is in the background tearing his hair out and Fremantle take the ball out of the +3 contest and hit the lead for the first time. Utterly comical.

Serious question, does JUH need an eye test? The way he constantly runs under the ball makes me think his vision is a bit off.

He was being pushed under it by a very good, experienced defence.
It'll come with experience.

You could be right. Another explanation is that they don't GAF. Weren't they out clubbing the same night?

Bare with me on this: today's youth for better or worse are different. I don;t think personal accountability is something it once was Don't hurt their feelings, re-enforce positives, etc and I believe Bevo is in tune with that. Plus, for them its just a job.

Fans are really the only constant in a footy club. Players and coaches and committees and Presidents and even grounds come and go. We as the fans are always there and we GAF. Not sure everyone else does, but without us, the club is nothing and maybe they'll learnt that the hard way.

A lot of us in here are old enough to remember the 80s and 90s and some of us the 70s. We had some dreadful years, we were on our knees, had no money, no sponsors and in the 70s and early 80s had
to sell great players denying the club of any success.

I think of Hawkins, Steve Wallis, Tony Liberatore to name a few, players who worked their arses off for the club, who left it all out there and had no success but not for want of trying. They would see the general 'who gives a s***' approach to the last 2 and a half quarters last night and cry.

You're right, today it's a generation that has little to no emotion to the club, it's just a job. It's a huge generalisation, but to not properly review the GF is mind blowing.

Compare that to McRae at the Pies actually training for the last five mins of close games and look what's happened this year. Amazing isn't it? Plus McRae has actually got his players to buy in, they believe, they have genuine passion and drive. Sadly I don't see that in us right now. Don't expect tears, but do our players and our club hurt enough? Are we actually embarrassed by the GF and what happened last night or don't we care?

16 hours later and have now thoroughly digested it all.

Bont, Macrae, Dunkley and Gardner can hold their heads high, daylight until the next tier and an epoch until our forward line makes an appearance.

For those wanting it, my full stats breakdown coming later tonight once I get back to Melbourne.
I thought Roarke did alright considering.

He stands up in big games unlike some of our others.
