One is AA, one was drafted at pick 1 but is crap. Why are you still struggling to understand?

You’re insinuating Essendon are unhappy with the choice. I’d hazard a guess we are plenty happy with what our captain in waiting is producing.

Sod off and stop throwing grenades is probably the best bit of advice to give you now.

Yep, another sad pathetic Carlton poster who feels necessary to derail a thread with a poor attempt at a troll.

Honestly, as a pure mid, he's not in the top group. As a pure forward, if we fixate on goal tally, he's not in the top group. Yet as a player overall, he simply has to be shoehorned in somewhere because he's clearly among the best players in the competition. He's a good example of why people shouldn't fixate too much on picking a certain number of each type of player. He gives merit to the argument of throwing random players throughout the wings and forward line even if they don't appear to belong
lol pure mid not in the top group? are you cooked, this guy is the best in the comp, and would be the best mid in all teams LOL, you do realize you can have different type of mids right? they dont all have to stat padding merchants like half of your mob

He is a HFF, he plays like a roaming front half role, sometimes as high as centre stoppages, sometimes deep forward from the goalsquare.
gotta realize theres many types of mids, inside, outside, wing, and now the fwd-mid hybrid, and dusty plays it well, best in the comp by a mile yet salty fans cant bring themselves to admit hahaha

lol youd rather have a nobody in the fwd line rather than have the best player in the comp? he is a mid-fwd hybrid, easily gets into the fwd or mid whereever he likes

Pick him as a midfielder it's where he should be picked.

Needs more Guthrie.

Do people realise that to be in the AA team you are essentially saying that the player is the best player in the competition for their position. Not just someone having a good year, but actually the best in the comp. Yes there are two back pockets, two wings, etc, but there's also different roles in those spots too (ie: intercept defender vs lock down defender vs rebounding defender) and if you can't at least argue that your guy is THE guy then they don't belong in the conversation

As an example,: Taberner from Freo isn't even remotely worth considering. No one thinks he's the best goal kicking forward - so far this year that's probably McKay. No one thinks he's the best CHF or mobile tall either. Nor is he the best combo ruck/forward or offer anything else. He's just a solid guy having a great year.

Just to avoid bias, Sam Walsh is in the same category too. He's having a very fine year, had another nice game today against a good midfield. But he just isn't in the conversation for best midfielder in the comp, no matter how you slice it. Same with Weitering. Only Carlton player even close is McKay wand given he brings essentially nothing beyond goals, he probably has to win the Coleman to get jn.

Can't really apply it to midfielders though, as they have about 8-10 spots on the team.

May is a much better player than Lever, but Lever having a better year. Has played 8 extremely good games.
Not based on this year. Lever is ahead of May in categories like contested marks and intercepts. May tends to stay back as the last line of defence but Lever has been better in the contests. Today May only won 3 contested possies again, but he did beat that invalid Buddy last week.

Good points. Some players also benefit a lot from playing in better teams.

Lever is definitely in for mine, almost the best intercepter in the league. Healthy amount of bias on my part, but think he’s a very safe certainty up to this point.

I mean Taberner made the squad last year and you could easily say that was just him having a good year, but he still made it.

If you think Dusty is so highly rated only because of his midfield work, I don't know what to tell you. Judging by your comments in this thread, you're not worth trying to convince because no reasonable debate is possible with you

Can't really apply it to midfielders though, as they have about 8-10 spots on the team.

Should really be 7 and I think it applies if you look at roles:

- best contested ballwinner (centerman) = Macrae, Oliver, maybe Mitchell
- best all rounder (ruck-rover) = Bont, Fyfe, Danger ,
- best small/run and carry mid (rover) = Merrett, Petracca, Kelly, etc
- best defensive mid (tagger)
- best wings = McLuggage, Gaff,
- could also argue that Martin's role is included too even if it is just for him
If you can't at least have a good 'I can't split them argument over those spots you aren't in the team imo. Best gets in, guys who you can argue join them in the bench.

do you realise that the AA isn't a lifetime achievement award and spots are given to the players who best performed for that particular season? Sure, Dusty is the best in the comp but he hasn't performed the best so far this season which is why he isn't being included in many teams
