Company I work for is working on the master plan for Arden and they showed an indicative proposal and there certainly wasn’t a second ground. Not saying that is the final plan but it did contain recreational spaces but not an oval.
wasn't that one of the main things promised?

did you see anything on light towers or grand stands?

and everyone's favourite a cafe?

Careful, you will upset the resident communist who will call it bulldust.

Was always likely after the RMH budget cancellation.

The area has pivoted from one of major public interest and services to private development.

They need to pay off the station, which wouldn't have been built under the current revised master plan.

The same goes for the oval and the 'second oval', it will be a recreational space just big enough to support as much private development land that they can re-zone and carve off. People ALWAYS kept misinterpreting that second Oval, it was for public use as a recreational area for the amount of apartment blocks they want in there. It wasn't allocated to North as some sort of training hub.

I think the best we can hope for is another stage of facility upgrades, which hopefully means some sort of covered seating for AFLW games/North training. I'd love some sort of indoor training field, but I think that highly unlikely with land value around there.

AFLW games are easily the best avenue to leverage this in terms of game facilities like a small grandstand and lights etc.

To be honest, the existing ground etc really wasn’t in scope of what they showed, more the area of development around the new station and a section of residential buildings along the train line (existing Upfield line).

There was meant to be an oval between the current ground and the river.

They need more space for training to take the load of the existing ground so it can be kept in good enough condition for games.

I hope the second oval stays as part of the plan. If not it really is another opportunity that has slipped by where there’s no real net benefit to the club.

I felt at the time they didn’t push hard enough. Hopefully there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.

Even more alarming - I've seen plans that show our current facilities and oval being confiscated and turned into "recreation space" too.

Yeah I think it is. It’s really a glorified storm water drain at that point.

Boundary rd.used to be filled with tannery's back in the day. Big one was Vary Bros.opposite Ma Flynn's pub on the corner. Their run-off used to drain into the " creek " for years.

A Cafe that adds revenue was denied because Staff are concerned that they may lose their kitchen facilities

From The Age

State and federal MPs have backed calls for the new Arden train station to be renamed, after The Agerevealed its name comes from a racist colonist.

Arden Street is also synonymous with North Melbourne Football Club, whose oval is on the street. The club refused to comment on the name when contacted by The Age.

No big deal. Simply call the Station "Hardon". Problem Solved. :stern look

For all our Woking with Melbourne Council you can’t trust them especially the Goose they call Mayor and his Greenie Deputy.
Unfortunately that’s why Kouta never got in at least he has an understanding with sports clubs plus it didn’t help when you have the Art types,Greens and Unions helping the Goose.
Maybe next time we go to Melbourne council with any proposal we could mow a picture of Eddie McGuire head into the grass I know it would take up %90 of the oval but you need to go to these measures if you want things done.

They're not calling for the street to be renamed are they.

Just for this new joint to have a different name than the one originally proposed. So its not named after a hack writer who got shit faced, passed out in a puddle and drowned before he'd done anything of note. He's not really any more racist than the likes of John Howard or 10 Sky News commentators but a new name is probably appropriate.

So why not name it Wayne Carey Station? Too soon? Barr... no that won't work - JZ station, saves on a statue.

Or maybe the club could suggest naming it after Ron Joseph or better still - Allen Aylett.

Aylett Station sounds good.

A little bit about George Arden:

His 1843 essay, the Civilization of Aborigines, called for Indigenous children to be taken from their families and then put to work under the domain of "moral and sober masters".

Then...
He died on the Ballarat goldfields in 1854 from "suffocation, the result of intemperance, having fallen into a trench full of water".

Intemperance means drunk btw

From what I know of my own family history dying drunk in a ditch was quite common back then.
