Roughy Should Never Have Been Appointed Captain

Whn I saw you had responded to this post Agent Smith, I was sure you were going to nominate Mitchell Lewis, after your good self, of course.;)
If I had enough brain receptors working at the time, I may have selected this more obvious response. Alas, I was more concerned at the time as to whether I needed to include some sort of sarcasm font or not...

That's just rubbish. The moment he blew in the bag he lost the captaincy!

So Clarko lets media outrage dictate terms?

Really?

How many Hawthorn member cancelled their membership? Under 20 is my bet.

How many even just bothered telling the club it was unacceptable? And I dont mean via FB. Actually contacting the club. 100?

I hope Rough is starting to get his engine back because I want him to be playing a majority of his time in the guts at ruck-rover for the rest of the season. I am just against forwards as captains, you either have an inspirational leader leading from the front in the middle or you have a defensive captain organising structures.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the split of where AFL captains played their time in premiership years.

2005 Barry Hall (Co-Captain with Brett Kirk (Mid) and Leo Barry (Def))

5/27 or 19% AFL Premierships have had forwards as captains.

I want to congratulate the OP on gaining a 'like' from the biggest deadshit troll on Bigfooty.

Mission accomplished.
SwampCreature is very into numerology at the moment.
He loooooves the number 21.
That is because its the number of people still alive that have seen a team win more premierships than Hawthorn.

Make sure to mention the number in any interactions with him or just tag him to remind him of it.
Isn't that right Swampy?
It is Twenty one isn't it...
Yep it is, 21.

21.

Big Footy used to be a better place when we had 3 premiership cups under our avatars. I miss those days.

Now everyone just takes pot shots wherever they see an opportunity.
They're still under mine. I told everyone they were disappearing and to plan for it. Now that the zombie apocalypse has begun, everyone is going to be knocking on my door foor my extensive supply of baked beans and tuna.

I support the OP - I did fear that Roughy having the C next to his name was too soon - wanted him to find his feet at AFL level after a season out of the game before stepping up in Hodgey's place - I'm certain that was the plan the whole time except that Hodgey fast-tracked it by deciding to step down over the summer. They are the cards the club has been dealt, and whilst it may be painful at the moment, I have no doubt Roughy will fight through his form slump and start doing inspirational acts - don't ever forget his Hanners tackle in the 2014 GF folks!

My grandfather was born in 1911, which was the last year when, if you were born in that year, you would have seen more opposition premierships than Hawthorn premierships.
Anyone born after 1911 has seen more Hawthorn premierships.

My grandfather is rolling in his grave right now!

you'll need to switch them to the other side if you want people to see them, they're obscured by the 'follow' button...
Ah! Thanks, because for me it doesn't ask me to follow me.

Fixed now.

No point sticking with Hodge. We needed to transition. Sooner rather than later. He would be the first to put his hand up and say the others have got to step up and learn to stand on their own two feet. And I'm sure he would have considered the ramifications of stepping down and who was likely to fill the void.
We're fortunate, and it's probably best for all that he's still around to help out, but I think if we really want to see how the leaders fare, it's going to be when they realise that Hodge is no longer there.
Roughy definitely needs some help from his mates.

If we'd drafted Deledio we'd never have started off 2-5 this year and would instead have 5 premierships since 08, I feel it in my bones.
Six matches and you wrote him off. Less than two months of footy .

"The elephant in the room" my ******* arse.
Pssh, just because you can't see the elephant doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

While Hawthorn is still basking in the warm glow of appointing the first female AFL club CEO I thought it might be prudent to discuss the elephant in the room, the form of our captain, Jarryd Roughead.
Let's face it, Roughy has struggled as much as any of his celebrated premiership team mates this year. His effort against the Saints on Saturday was horrible and his last quarter efforts when he missed two easy set shots and then let Carlisle out mark him at half back and kick and easy goal was the icing on the cake of the worst game of a lot of terrible games this year. It was not the sort of effort we should expect from the captain of this great club.
The truth is Roughy should never have been made captain. I honestly love him as much as any supporter, but to expect him to lead the club after what he went through over the past year was unfair and has put far too much pressure on him. He should have spent this year getting his health and fitness right and enjoying life and footy again.
Making Roughy captain was just a cynical PR exercise designed to give the Hawthorn faithful a good news story after the botched and hugely unpopular decision to trade off two club legends for sweet FA. Jarryd Roughead is the victim of a totally botched off season and the board and football department should be ashamed of putting him in this difficult position.
I'll leave you with this scary thought, if Roughy had turned down the captaincy, who would have been captain this year? Shiels? Smith? Maybe that's why he accepted the role. Hodge should still be captain and I bet he thinks he should still be too.
Discuss.
PS I look forward to all the personal insults and abuse from those sycophants who refuse to admit that anyone at Hawthorn can make mistakes and that every player that wears the brown and gold is an absolute champion that can never be questioned.

LOL!

Do you actually football?

Took your advice and have it saved on my desktop. I'll be consuming caviar during the coming of the walking dead!
