In regards to MIchie, obviously you will have to wait to find out but I've never been more certain of a guy who has played half a career game in 3 years becoming a dead set star, frankly it's a bit insulting to compare him to Magner. Viv is a genuinely classy player and even though it's not at Freo I'm glad he'll be given the chance to show his wares at AFL level :thumbsu:

I only meant because he racks it up in the VFL. Had a couple 40+ touch games and a 53ish game, some may think he may become a dead set star....

I like the idea of Toumpy off a back flank next year, get him a bit more involved hopefully.

Yeah definitely. I think we should have done this with Trengove early this year/last when he started to lose touch.

I reckon it'd also be best to start Toumpas in the VFL. Really make him earn his spot, especially given the renewed quality of our midfield group.

Garland Frawley Grimes
Terlich McDonald Toumpas
Vince Viney Kent
Watts Dawes Trengove
Hogan Clark Howe
Gawn Jones Tyson

INT: Michie Cross Blease
Freeman?

IMO that midfield looks potentially very good but it is up to the youngsters to lift.

If Tyson, Trengove, Viney, Kent, Toumpas don't go up 2 or 3 gears, that midfield will be a hole for 10 years.

Boak, Hartlett, Ebert, Wingard, Wines all stood up when people were calling Port talentless last year.

Somebody has to make a stand at MFC.

All of a sudden with Tyson and pick 9

We will have 6 mids who were (viney should have been) top 10 draft picks
Viney, trengove , toumpas , Tyson , watts , #9

That doesn't include jones Vince michie grimes cross

Amazing to think that at times last year trenners was the only top
10 pick in the midfield

Also can't believe jack viney hasn't been mentioned in here
Imagine what he will do next year !!!

Barring injury, this is how I reckon we'd line up in Round 1
B: Dunn, Frawley, Terlich
HB: Garland, McDonald, Grimes
C: Watts, Cross, Toumpas
HF: Howe, Dawes, Vince
F: Hogan, Clark, Fitzpatrick
Foll: Jamar, N.Jones, Viney
Int: M.Jones, Tyson, Trengove
Sub: Byrnes
Em: McKenzie, Michie, Gawn

It will likely change as the season goes on.
By season's end, I believe that Dunn will make way for Clisby/Strauss, Cross for Michie, Jamar for Gawn, Byrnes for Kent/Blease and M.Jones for Pick 9 (Freeman?)

And Hogan is superman. But I stole that fun little joke from someone else here. Probably in this very thread.
Once had it as my sig, but reckon you have the wrong Superman.

Closest I've seen what we'll probably field, although bump Fitz or Hogan from that ludicrous 4 big man forward line, put Byrnes in the pocket and Blease in the vest, and I think that's how we'll line up round 1, barring injuries.

Seems to be a lot of talk about Watts becoming a midfielder. He's got a long way to go to get there.

Don't understand why people want Matty Jones gone. Find the earlier reference to top 10 picks in the midfield even more ludicrous.

I know the current posting group is slightly different to the one we had in 09/10 when we were all preaching about Scullgove, but where you were drafted matters FA if you play like, say, Trengove in 2013.

Jones was our 2nd best mid in 2013, and until the young kids show something, he'll continue to be.

Who cares is he's not the most fashionable player out there, he does the job.

Agree jones was one our most consistent players and until the kids show somthing he is starting 18 for me

Good points SSF. And I reckon this last bit will be even more important under Roos, who seems to enjoy 'workmanlike' players.

That's a terrible word, but youse all know what I mean.

Let's go with solid. And consistent.

And workmanlike.

Kirkyesque?

Agree with the point though. M Jones was very good for us last season and is now pretty comfortably in the 22. Hopefully this, and the addition of the other senior blokes this off-season, will allow us to play some of the young guys like Toumpas, #9, Tyson, at Casey for a bit to build up some form, fitness and confidence before throwing them into the deep end to sink or swim.

No doubt Matt Jones had a great year, but the fact that he was our second best mid is more of an indictment of our group than it is a reflection of him as a star player. I hope he's there round 1 and has a great year, but I can see him being forced out if Roos and Stone manage to get the most out of Tyson, Watts, Trengove, Viney, Michie, Vince, Cross, etc. In an ideal world Matt Jones only makes the side if he improves by more than our other midfielders do. Not because the entire group remains at the same level as it was this year, which would be a disaster. And this thread is intended to reflect the ideal result going into round 1.

I'm confused too, especially when people say he came 4th in our b&f shows how good our team is ect?

Matt Jones is a good solid, consistent player and exactly what we need to show the young lads how to play. His best is good enough for our 22 and thats better than a Bate or a Sellar who is just in the team due to our lack of depth

I think this thread needs to be an example of 'everyone is entitled to their own opinions and perceptions'.

We're here to critique eachothers opinions.

What part of my post was ludicrous?
My point being for a team who 'tanked' and spent this long down we had precious little work put into the midfield
By top 10 picks I was just saying we have finally invested in that area

Of course draft position means shit all, look at what dean terlich did for us last year , I would take him over 99% of our list

Z. Jones McDonald Garland
Toumpas Schoenmakers Grimes
Freeman N. Jones Watts
Howe Hogan Trengrove
Fitzpatrick Dawes Blease
Clark Tyson Viney
Tapscott Michie Stretch Vince

Give it 2 years

B: Dean Terlich, James Frawley, Colin Garland

HB: Jack Grimes, Tom McDonald, Mitchell Clisby

C: Matt Jones, Jack Trengove, Dom Tyson

HF: Jeromy Howe, Chris Dawes, Bernie Vince

F: Shannon Brynes, Mitch Clark, Dean Kent

R: Mark Jamar, Nathan Jones, Jack Viney

INT: Daniel Cross, Jesse Hogan, Jack Watts, Sam Blease (Sub)

EMG: Jimmy Toumpas, Jordie McKenzie, Lynden Dunn

After the conclusion of trade week and some new recuits this is how the Dees could line up come round 1. Some handy ready made recruits like Tyson, Cross and Vince all come into the side.

I must say that is a very impressive line up. :thumbsu:
