But Worpel had more inside 50s, more metres gained, less turnovers, more rebound from 50s. Plus Worpel disposal efficiency was 92% to Omearas 67%. Both had bad games, but considering Omeara more experienced and the captain for the day, I expect more.Used his body well when moved into the middle. Actually had an impact, whilst Worpel was completely anonymous, had less touches, less clearances, half as many contested touches and gave up some mind numbing frees.
JOM was far from good, but was better than Worpel who was clear WOG.
The problem with Worpel is he was a turnstile in the centre and not a big clearance winner and barely won a contest. And when he went forward he was pushed under the ball too easily when it was kicked to him and he conceded intercept marks. Happened three times in the first half. But Worpel had more inside 50s, more metres gained, less turnovers, more rebound from 50s. Plus Worpel disposal efficiency was 92% to Omearas 67%. Just got to be comfortable that we will get opened up , possible badly by the really good sides .One thing about the game style, is when you take it on, you're more often than not in the game.
It's the game style we've been crying out for, for years. And we're only just getting started...
This was the case for most of the teams, no better example than 2 of the top teams Brisbane and Port. Round 1 games are always sloppy. Day, Bramble and Breust are 3 of our more classier ball users.also, as happy as I am with the win and how we played, let's be real, our ball use and composure under pressure was pretty average
Nah haven’t paid any attention to pre-season TBH. Some quality to come back then but unfortunately no genuine midfield types. Not aware of his injury?
Stress fracture in his foot. About 4 more weeks or so...
Yeah look, It sounds like I'm defending Worpel for having a amazing game. I was disappointed in him, but he equally had as many good 1% moments that people are giving Omeara credit for. I had pumped him up to have a really good year and to elevate himself into elite status. Let's hope it was just a rough day and he can bounce back. The problem with Worpel is he was a turnstile in the centre and not a big clearance winner and barely won a contest. I hope they had a plasterer on handHow good was it seeing long sleeved Chad. Would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall at Clarko’s place
Wasn't given much mid time because North walked it out of the middle every time he went in the 1st quarterThink people are being a bit tough on Worps tbh. When he had the ball he actually made things happen. Wasn’t given much mid time so disposal number was low but I personally thought he was fine.
North had the edge for much of the game but ran out of legs. We have a lot of endurance runners and a lot of midfield rotations. Those things counted in the final quarter. Plenty of upside for North.Good game guy's, always a pleasure to play the Hawks, except when we lose. Some good players up forward and some nice movers around the contest. I'm not sure what we're going to do about the sloppy ball use other than ride it out, but a good performance overall. I can't recall the last time we actually won a round one game, apart from the fact that it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Anyway, congratulations, too switched on when it mattered.
AFL website are stating Omeara had 5 turnovers to Worpels 4 and I wouldn't say having 2 more clearances makes another dominant over the other. Both had 3 clangers.
Metres gained is a stat that can flatter players. Worpel also had more metres gained than CJ (all three were under 300m). Bombing it long ineffectively can = metres gained.
JOM had 10 contested and 5 clearances.
Worpel had 5 contested touches and 3 clearances.
But most importantly Worpel was the common denominator in the midfield when North were strolling out of there in the first quarter. That changed once he was taken out of there. Credit for his disposal efficiency though.
Brisbane-port game was a humid game at the Gabba. Never going to have great skills. This was the case for most of the teams, no better example than 2 of the top teams Brisbane and Port. Round 1 games are always sloppy. Day, Bramble and Breust are 3 of our more classier ball users.
This sort of stuff started to resonate at Box Hill and Sam's brought it to the HFC. It's really good.Don’t usually watch coach press conferences, I usually tend to find them pretty boring.
But thought I’d check out Sam first up and wowee it was good viewing. Love the way he talks. Got the warm fuzzies listening to him to talk about getting everyone into the circle to sing the song. As well as him talking about letting Chad be Chad.
Seems to have that similarity to his coaching as a parent from the 2010's has, less strict and embraces individuality. Might be small but allowing long sleeves and powerade throwing is a big step away from Clarkson controlling those situationsThis sort of stuff started to resonate at Box Hill and Sam's brought it to the HFC.
