I’ll say this if we can mitigate all the NM talls in Larkey, Xerri and Coleman Jones with Sic, Frost and DGB then I feel we will be ok against the big talls.

Still feel our midfield is our biggest let down. Nash, Newcombe, O”Meara, Mitchell, Shiels, Worpel are 6 genuine in and under players and it’s important the mix is correct. Newcombe played well in FWD spells.

But loved Lewis game, love the FWD setup and despite some poor disposals Finn”s shift as a winger was great and really covered the ground well. I feel Bramble will take his place but games like that make him harder to drop and a great starting point.

DGB is the real deal, unsighted all day which meant he did his role well but that 4th QTR composure is all I need to know the guy is a competitor and will be reliable 10 year player.

Reeves take a bow. By himself against 3 ruckman. Didn’t win but competed and gave it his all.
Yeah the forward set up as well as for forward entries = the plus for me

I would post this in the Sam Mitchell thread but I have been blocked by the bigfooty moderator on this board without any explanation.

Sam Mitchell talks too much about individual players in public. It goes against 50 plus years of Hawthorn culture to never individualise.

I have mentioned this previously... and at that the time the moderator who banned me from the Sam Mitchell thread said that Sam never did this. .

In today's coaches press conference, the journalist worked out that Sam was an open book on players. Sam was willing to make comments on each and ever player. So the journalists kept asking about each player.

What happens when we lose? What happens when San has to lie about players?

Sam, please, just DONT TALK ABOUT THEM INDIVIDUALLY IN PUBLIC!!!!!!!!!!

i.e. when Clarkson was ever asked about a single player by a journalist, he would defer the question by mentioning 10 other players in the team.

Sam needs to put an end to it.
Oh boy that is a fair over reaction. Not to mention every single press conference, the journos ask about individual players.
Why would Sam have to lie about players, why wouldn't he just say "I thought ... had a poor game for his standards"?

Listened to the presser and it’s one of the better ones you will ever listen to, word for word I’m interested in the lines you have issues with.

And before you follow up post remember we live in 2022 😊

Don’t usually watch coach press conferences, I usually tend to find them pretty boring.

But thought I’d check out Sam first up and wowee it was good viewing. Love the way he talks. Got the warm fuzzies listening to him to talk about getting everyone into the circle to sing the song. As well as him talking about letting Chad be Chad.
Yeah the whole letting players express themselves seemed pretty genuine hey?

David King : "I know i have mentioned Horne-Francis a few times...... blah blah.... But i will stop for now".
Huddo. : " I dont think you will"..

I do agree he is going to be super special once he gets a few games under his belt...

How is it an overreaction when it was an opinion expressed by me about Sam's public conduct two months ago?

I have issues with Hawthorn coaches talking about individual players in public. I celebrate when other coaches do it.

Kennedy, Jeans, Joyce, Clarkson never did it... except in error. Schwab lost his temper at times and did it.

Satire?

Our club has embraced the concept of individuality, but nobody is forgetting that team comes first.

We've had more access through social media, the biggest love-fest we've seen following a win since the 2015 flag, the return of the best looking long sleeve jumper in the game, plus a group that is clearly bonded and loves to play for one another and the brown and gold.

Let this new approach play out a little.

It is not new. It has been done by other clubs for as long as there has been football.

Let's throw out Hawthorn culture and see what happens? No thanks.

Melbourne bared all with a pre-season documentary that was blasted in the media and became premiers 18 months later.

Success can stem from many different approaches. If this is the beginning of a new Hawthorn who is to say it won't be the most successful Hawthorn?

How good is footy back and with a brand that is pushing to score. It looks rusty at the minute but give it time, a lot of players will take a lot for the run.

Maginess for all his floors is a handful, provides genuine attack.

Mitch Lewis works so much harder now, with Gunston back it’s a genuine tough match up to deal with, Idno if I saw it but the players were alternating their attack to each forward based on the match up thought it was good to see if it wasn’t just luck.

Unfortunate for lynch (he looks great to) but with Phillips coming on he provided that extra link and runner that was really important on a hot day… now some of his decision making and touch needs some work but he goes bloody hard and if he can just tighten the above a little he will see a lot of best 22 action.

Sicily, cj and Hardwick are genuine stars, rarely loose a contest and provide enough rebound that being slightly undersized works better in offence then pure defence.

Plenty others to mention but I thought the whole group and team worked hard on hot and humid day, imagine the ball may have been quite slippery based on Sams presser but we do need to be a bit tidier.

As for any players on a down day, it’s round one let’s give them a few weeks to get up to speed, their are concerns but time is allowed - and we won 😀

I get you don't get it. But you jumped to "it's an overreaction" which really obscured your position.
No it hasn't. Your reaction to Mitchell addressing individual players is an over reaction whether you said it 2 months ago or only today. It is absolutely nowhere near as big an issue as you are making it out to be, hence an over reaction.

Can you name any of the lines? Otherwise your just talking sweet nothings

if Sam wants to let players wear long sleeves - okay

if Sam wants to gatorade shower debutaunts - okay

if Sam wants to let players slump on the ground against the wall after a game - okay

If Sam wants to make lots and lots of changes to Clarksons reign - okay.

etc etc

But there are limits.

Hawthorn culture is Hawthorn culture.

Don't talk about individual players in public, please.

Great to get the W first up after trailing early.

Mitch Lewis, Gunston and Moore looked dangerous.

If Gunston had kicked to his statistical standard and you add Day, Bramble, Impey and McEvoy, it may have been a 60 point win which is closer to where you'd want to be against North.

I liked Finn closing a goal in the last quarter on his left. His ceiling is much higher if he can go end to end and convert like that at the business end of games.

Newk with a full preseason was a revelation at the pointy end.

Sam Mitchell is having dreams tonight of cloning CJ, failing that, getting some more pure leg speed onto the pitch will surely need to be front of mind.

So after 1 round completed we have the best defence in the league. Welcome back James Sicily 🤙🏽

Gotta enjoy it while we can!

Mate, times change. If Hawthorn culture is not celebrating any individuals publicly, it's the culture that needs to change and not Sam.

listen to Allan Jeans interview after the 1982 prelim final loss to Carlton ....great interview which in hindsight was prophetic and it did individualise

Your sad sack diatribe is exactly why you were threadbanned. Just unequivocal nonsense. Feel free not to bring it to other threads - we’re all enjoying the day you pathetic killjoy.
