IF Worrell and McAdam aren’t up to it (I posted this in the PS thread too so it’s a repost), I think we’ll go with this at this stage:

B: Michalanney, Butts, Doedee
HB: Smith, Murray, Dawson
C: Hinge, Laird, Soligo
HF: Rankine, Walker, Schoenberg
F: McHenry, Fogarty, Rachele
R: ROB, Keays, Berry
I/C: Thilthorpe, Milera, Parnell, Pedlar
Sub: Murphy or Jones (my preference would be Murphy)

If Worrell’s fit, he replaces MM. If McAdam’s fit… well he comes in and someone goes to sub, dunno who

Think our midfield rotation will mainly be Laird/Keays/Berry/Schoenberg, with varying bursts from Soligo/Rankine/Rachele from time to time. Bit of a rotation system on the wing, with Rankine/Hinge/Soligo/Milera/Parnell/Dawson getting varying time there

Not 100% what I’d be doing but it’s not a side I’d be unhappy with, at all

Laird I/C LOL

Slap stick comedy

Pedlar and Rachele starting mids - 2024 if things go perfectly from here but more likely a possibility in 2025

Less than Zero chance in 2023 even if Laird Keays Berry and Sloane were all out injured Rachele and Pedlar wouldn’t be our starting mids

Berry, pedlar, rachelle> laird, berry, keays.

With all due respect - I do think they are key parts for us to be successful down the track - but Pedlar and Rachele are miles away from starting mids.
Pedlar has to get through a pre season first and then a few games - quite possibly as a forward in Sanfl - before he even thinks about playing midfield in AFL.

Both are a mile away from Laird,Keays,Berry,Schoenberg, Soligo

I get you like them more but let’s be realistic about where each player sits

Not like it matters. We won't be challenging for at least a couple more years. The current midfield ain't getting anywhere near a flag.

I know Brown can play anywhere but back pocket in the sanfl is harsh

Laird is our best mid and b&f winner. Rankine won't be a full time mid. Same with Rachele. Play them in the forward line and give them some bursts in the midfield. Rankine and Rachele don't have the physical durability needed for full time mid. Laird and Berry do. Soligo is next in line for full-time mid along with Schoenberg.

Yeh you are right that is what will happen. But This is what I want to happen. A grade Class in the midfield. Laird and Keays can have bursts in there but neither have the class of Rankine or Rachele. A grade Class here is what i am talking about. A.dn how exciting would that look.

I think Berry and Soligo will be stars in time. I'm hoping Rankine can be a Shai Bolton type as that's where he can be most damaging with his goal sense and bursts through the midfield. I hope Rachele turns into the Zac Bailey, Dusty type. He needs to keep building up his body to limit the soft tissue injuries.

Borlase at CHB......ouch.

B Smith Butts Laird
HB Doedee Murray Dawson
C Milera Soligo Sholl
HF McHenry Fogarty Rankine
F McAdam Walker Rachelle
R O'Brien Crouch Berry
IC Thilthorpe Worrell Schoenberg Murphy

Crouch I hope will be super fit. He is a good footballer and 27, 28 later this season. Geelong would have him fit and firing for 5+ years.
Laird I am putting back to defence to create room for Berry, Soligo, Schoenberg, and occasionally Rankine and Rachelle in the midfield. And also because we need a genuine ground ball winner in our defence.
Keays reserves, Crouch Berry Soligo are all better than him, Schoenberg needs more chances, Rankine and Rachelle need some CBAs. I don't think he adds much as a forward.
Hamill I figure will be concussed. If he plays it should be forward in place of McHenry, let him run around tackling people instead of trying to run and carry and being taken down.
Hinge realistically will probably play ahead of Sholl but I hope Sholl has a cracking pre-season and has a big year 4 improvement.
Murphy I still like even though nobody else does. Just like how hard he hits the contest. Will probably ruin himself doing so.
Sloane isn't in my first 22 picked but realistically there will be more than zero injuries and he will play.

Haven't read enough "young player X is training the house down" articles to pick Taylor, Nankervis etc.

Nice approach, but what is Himmelberg's role in the mid, and do we need him if we have ROB, Thilthorpe and Walker? Wouldn't your emerg Pedlar be better?

My approach for Himmelberg as cover for 3 forwards and 2 Backs as well as ROB in ruck. Even though Thilthorpe takes limited CB don't want him at risk for long periods. RT is to important to put at long term risk from collision injuries
