Yep, love Nash , proved to be a excellent inside mid but there is another level to go to, taking some marks both end of the ground and more importantly hitting the scoreboard more often. This is where our group of rather talented midfield group can really take that next step.

I said that he was our third best player at the end of the 2003 season. It was not a career assessment. Players have better and worse seasons and, in the end you make a more global assessment based on their whole of career contribution. However, normally when considering who would be in the starting 22 at the beginning of the following season you look at their contribution over the course of the previous season, unless there is good reason to do otherwise. Demotion to sub seemed a very odd response to his excellent 2023.

But he wasn't. He received the 3rd highest votes from the coaching group based on output across an entire season. There were a number of players who missed games due to injury, illness or suspension that most(including the club) would rate above Nash.

As Sixpence indicated, all things being equal Nash would scrape in to our top 10 players for 2023 but not our top 3.

Nash will be in there for the first bounce.
You thinking at first bounce he'll run off his line (Dermie style) and straight through Zac Merrett to set the tone? Yes please.

Was Day our best player? Or is the PCM compromised?

Which players would have overtaken Nash if they played the same numbers of games. Sicily I can see and have acknowledged. Who re the others?

We still underrateing Nash, been telling y'all for years, he good.

An athlete like him will always find a place in our game, to his credit he has developed into a genuine inside mid that's important to our structure, as of right now he's a starter imo.

Big fan of Finn’s second half of last season was one of the best taggers going around shutting down some of the best. Loved seeing oppo players regularly having a crack at him during games ……. that’s when you know he’s doing his job very well. He could become the best tagger in the comp due to his versatility in matchups as he has the size to go with big/strong mids and the tank to go with wingmen.

Mitchell knows how important it is to have this up your sleeve every week! I reckon Finn has also been working on his field kicking as it looks more reliable/efficient over summer. In my 22

Finn already is the best tagger in the comp, no doubt about it.

Remember when Clarko put a 197cm Irishman who’d hardly played Aussie Rules in a forward pocket?

Wacky times

Shows how important it is for coaches to put players into roles that suit their attributes.

Now I don't think Nashy is going to be climbing any trees but I'm sure he can knock em down.

So barring something stupid happening between now and Rd 1, Day is looking like the only player our true best 22 who is looking doubtful (with our glut of small forwards, the Chad is borderline).

Anyone else?

Lewis potentially.
Mathematically possible, but not likely. Lewis averaged 3.8 votes over his 15 games whereas Nash averaged 5 votes across his 23 (rounding to one decimal place). We will never know for certain but I reckon Sicily is the only one with reasonable probability of overhauling Nash if he played the same number of games. Siciliy averaged 5.3 votes which push him clearly into third place if he maintained the average across the games he missed.

He played on Merret in the corresponding games last year and got pantsed. Wonder if that’ll have any bearing on his selection.
Yep. Probably.

Gives him a chance to atone.
