Keep digging that hole, Mike. The drugs saga is the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm not sure why anyone is keen to push Hardwick forward the season after we just recruited Ginnivan and Watson. Not to mention the reports of a strong pre-season from Butler and last season's development of Bennetts.
And Wingard's recovery progressing well.

I think you need to think of Dimma's move as another option if we need it

Would say we've needed it for all the years since we lost Poppy and Cyril. Outside of Breust we've struggled for quality small forward options since.
We now finally have some decent options.

I think Hardwick as a forward is something we should only see when we're 15 goals down and don't look like scoring.

If scrim can’t hold down a kpd role - I’m personally sceptical - he’s more likely at Box hill. Seemed pretty clear club wants quicker types on the flanks going forward. With guys like Serong, Frost, DGB all looking for a defender spot no sure thing scrim even plays round 1 (assuming a fully fit squad).

I’m pretty sceptical that work ethic, application, competitiveness, intensity etc will ‘click’ after 7 seasons in afl (a couple yes but 7?) Chol the same. It’s like expecting frost to develop composure.

Collingwood used Jeremy Howe forward on occasion when they needed a goal. From memory he bobbed up for a few late against Carlton. This is what I’m envisioning for Hardwick. Good option to have.

Never take anything for granted. Prepare for the worst and be pleasantly surprised.

Dimma should be moved forward when his opponent is able to take him out of the contest. There's always small forwards that are able to nullify their opponent and in turn open up the forward line. When this happens the switch needs to be made

Given their lack of tall forward options, it always make sense. Mihocek was their KPF for a while and he's 192 which is shorter than our mids.

Dimma forward is surely just a worst case scenario. Out of all the years where we've lacked small forward options, 2024 is probably the first year that we're MORE than covered. It is actually probably a weapon now, so I'm not seeing the fascniation with moving him there, especially seeing how good he has been for many years now as a small defencer. Rarely gets beaten.

Training there for parts of pre-season is probably good just to freshen him up mentally more than anything.

Imagine recruiting Ginnivan, then drafting a small forward with a top 5 pick (has that ever happened before? if so, got to be very rare), but then moving your elite small defender to fill that role!

Would be crazy Clarko (2018-2021) type moves.

Scrim isn't holding down a KPD role.
Not sure that's his value in the team anyway

Maybe Dimma wants a change too. He’s played down back almost all his career to date after being an accomplished forward as a junior. If he loses passion for the position or the game generally as a result of being forced to play back then that’s an obvious disaster. Also it creates opportunity whilst we aren’t contending to see who else we have that can play defence and what overall positional and structural flexibility we have. It may be the move that finds Maginness his positional home for example as not just a tagger. Finally last year highlighted the importance of the HBF as an attacking weapon. Moving Hardwick forward playing in a defensive capacity might be strategic to combat that given our lack of defensively minded forwards.
These moves aren’t usually taken lightly with someone so accomplished and by no means am I saying back the club blindly, but I don’t see this move in 2024 having any long term downside.

I only really recall Hardwick playing up forward the first game against Essendon, and it was only for the last quarter, where he looked to be our best forward kicking 2 goals and unlucky not to get a 3rd. That seemed to be the end of the experiment for the season.
I swear I remember a forward line of Scrimmers, Sic and Hardwick in the last round against Freo?

Reckon we saw Dimma forward in the first two matches against the Don's and Swans and then again in the last quarter against Freo in 2023

Agree. We've now spent significant draft capital on multiple small forwards and HFF's - Watson, Butler, MacDonald + trading in Ginnivan (not to mention Wingard). It's time to make that work.
