I don’t hate the line-up. We are clearly prioritising structure with the Reidy selection. Would rather see O’Driscoll play inside and O’Meara on the wing, it’s a skinny ground where the wings aren’t as utilised. That bench is uninspiring and I think it’ll come down to if our bottom 6 can perform: Banfield, Reidy, Worner, Johnson, Wagner, and O’Meara.
It’s not ideal but there’s still enough talent in that 22 to get a result. Quietly optimistic.

Maybe we’ve gone a bit tall because the hot conditions will see more long kicking than we otherwise would, due to both teams losing some run.

That's actually not a good thing. We don't want to be fielding young sides anymore. I guess a symptom of both Fyfe and Walters being out from last years teams with Reid in.
At full strength we should be closer to the 25 years 100 games you need to compete.
Reid is better than both Erasmus and Johnson the second we drafted him. But "simple as that" is such a laughable nuffie response

People overrate our list and it’s why all those predictions of us winning the flag are absurd.
Ive said it before but the reason for our lack of experience/youth dates back to the Ross days when we were good and our lack of talent from that time. Just off the top of my head no one in our lineup this week except Pearce is from that time period.
Darcy, Young, Bolton, Walters being out doesn’t help.
Even North has us covered easily. So do the Saints despite Ross mentioning how young they are 15 times each time he talks lately. West Coast, Tigers and Bombers are the teams we're most similar to.

Mmm... not so sure it'll be that pronounced an advantage. I have lived in Melb for nearly a decade after growing up in perth and Melbourne late summer heat is muggy and sweaty. 30 here almost feels like 40 back home. It'll be brutal for both sides.
I hope stand 17 at GMHBA gets a nice breeze or my partner is gonna be pissed at me for bringing here along haha

The players who are out are amongst our most experienced players, and we will have no older deadwood out on the park Saturday (maybe a couple who won't make it). The team will likely be the least experienced side we field all year. Don't sweat it.
I mean just look at last year when we lost our three most important players and we replaced them with three guys who had never played a game before. People never take into account depth when assessing how our team will perform
It was a bit of a perfect storm too, given it was 3 of the most important structural players and we played exclusively top 4 teams over that stretch.

Round 20 2023: Geelong had 3545 games experience compared to our 1744 - a 1801 game differential. They were also 3 years older on average age.
We won that game.
Richmond had 12 players who had played less then 50 games and look at what they did tonight.
So in the short term this game is still very winnable. And in the long term we will get back Bolton, Young, Darcy, Sturt, Fyfe, Walters and whoever else is out and suddenly we are much more experienced.
I’m not saying to book the bus, but the reality is we should be contending. I’m not sure why you are writing us off before the season has even started.
Yeah and Switta but those numbers are basically start of a rebuild numbers.
It just shows how concentrated our players are in that 23-26 range. It's a good thing for the long term.
There's no flag this year, no way. But the time is now to start contending, and being a fair dinkum footy club.
