Welcome to the 2020 season Bluebaggers

Get along. Gates open at 6pm. Big crowd is expected as it's the Tigs first outing in the AFLW. Would love a win to us in both AFLW and AFLM first rounds. Go Baggers.

On the upside:
Really like our recruiting this year Feel our depth improved across the ground, including some sport jumpers like Harrison and Doonan, some ready mades like Laliofi, and the youngsters - who I'm most excited by, their skills are a pointer to the future of the AFLW - McEvoy and Egan.
The team really improved and gelled over the course of 2019 season and will have learnt a heap from the GF loss.

Despite the loss of Davey to Collingwood, I think we'll get better with multiple improvements across the team, rather than putting our hopes into one standout like Bri.

I only got to about a quarter of the practice match and have already bookmarked Maddy for BnF again, and that we are all gunna love Loloifi off HB.

My predicted selected side (with little intell):

FB: Van Dyk, Pound
HB: Laloifi McEvoy Stevens
C: Dalton Prespakis Gee
HF: Walker Harris Doonan
FF: Vescio Moody

R: Downie Harrington S.Hosking

Int: Brazzale, Egan, J.Hosking, Edwards, Wilson

A few have commented on our lack of height down back. Downie often drifts back when we need. She's a safe pair of hands.

Get there early and wear your carlton gear. The tiger army will be out in force and we have to remind them who's turf it is. It might get close to being a lockout again.

Carlton and Richmond have played each other 221 times in a rich AFL history full of tradition and spirited rivalry.

No less than 78 of those matches have taken place at none other than at the heart of Carlton: Princes Park. Of those 78, 54 have been won by the Blues.

Princes Park hasn’t hosted a battle between the Blues and the Tigers since 1997.

Make it a big one.

Nice summary! I'm keen to your thinking behind swapping roles for Downie and Moody... I know we started that way last year, but Breann struggled as a deep forward on the regular.
Downie has often dropped back and looks more mobile and effective than Moody in defence IMO. But maybe Moody has got fitter. Think she was overseas for most of the preseason last year.

Not long now, great too be kicking off the season and finally have footy back...
Looking forward to a packed house and hopefully a great close game, from what I've heard young Georgie Gee has put on some nice muscle and has had a fantastic preseason training midfield, young lass has a stack of talent..

If Georgie can step up & become a contributor in the midfield, we will have another very good season.

As you have rightly suggested, Georgie has a stack of talent & plenty of tricks. She has the potential to be one of our most exciting players.

Iniitally when we drafted her she was small but her frame was just so light and thin, you could see she could play but looked like maybe being a slow burn.. She will just keep getting better and better as she gets older fitter stronger..

It looks a pretty solid side. Not wanting to put any pressure on McEvoy but it will interesting to see how influential she can be compared to what Davey did for us. She looks a special talent.

You'd hope that our side's greater continuity of coaching and playing group would provide some sort of advantage over a new club.

I hope we're foxing with that structure, because Brennan and Conti are a solid chance to give us a bath in the middle.

We probably should not play more than one of Plane and Loynes this season, and yet we're playing both. Of the two, Loynes gets the nod from me, but there's a very good reason why she's been given a part-time staff role this season.

The Stevens midfield experiment needs to stop too, her running power just isn't there, and nothing about her body shape this preseason suggests that serious work has been done on her mobility to change that. I recognise high half-forward is a different role, but I would have been earmarking McEvoy, Gee, Brazzale, Vescio and Loynes for rotating in and out of those positions.

I think the basic structure I put up for my 21 will largely hold, and Plane will start on the bench, but I would rather have brought Edwards in for Jess Hosking.
