Wouldnt be getting rid of shiels just yet. Looked great in the first quarter and has had no pre season. He got subbed because he was under done. Just the fact that they played him with no pre season tells you that he will get games.

He will be a great pick as the season goes on.

A frustrating night

Bugg 103 :thumbsu:
Mal 83
Goodes 84
Mummy 91 x2 (captain)
Kennedy 116 :thumbsu::thumbsu:

McDonald (emergency) 98
Townsend 42
Shiel (hopefully working his way into it) 36
Giles (emergency) 74 :thumbsu:
Smith 69

Why in Christ's name would you have Mumford as captain..in Rd1?

just got home knowing that I took Bugg out 10mins before lockout

Can't complain with my rookies (Kennedy 116, McDonald 98, Giles 77, Smith 69) but Goodes whopping 84 hurts because all week i have wanted to take the C off him. I thought at the very least he would crack the ton with plenty of forward line entries but he showed very little interest.

Other than that Bugg on the bench and Shiel looking good before being subbed off is a good night for my selections.

Exactly this. People that put him on the field deserve his score seeing as he was never going to get the same minutes as a McDonal or Coniglio .etc.

Should play lots of games this year though and his first quarter was very impressive

Only had J.Mac and Devon playing tonight. Not to bad i guess, annoying that i have Bugg and Kennedy on my bench, just shows ive got decent depth i guess.

Such a DT noob, didn't think 80s was that bad for most players

Only Giles in

Bugg, Shiel, Hampton (Foward) reserve plus Cameron on the bench so even though we can change after the teams are announced it's nice to know I've got some cover for players like Matera if they don't get a start.

On Field

Bugg 103
Coniglio 53
Giles 77
Kennedy 116

Average. 87.25

good average for 4 rookies .. Devon Smith as emergency .. if Magner doesnt play (69)
Magner should play tho!

quite happy with that!!

On the field:

Bugg 97:thumbsu:
Mumford 91:cool:
Goodes 84:(
Smith 69:thumbsu:

Bench:

Mohr 74:thumbsu:
Shiel 36:mad:
MacDonald 98:thumbsu:
Giles 77:thumbsu:
Hampton 77:thumbsu:
Wilson 36:mad:

Will trade Wilson for Kennedy and maybe Shiel for Greene pending next weeks results.

Why would you trade out two rookies for another two after one round based on one good performance?

I had D. Smith and J. McDonald on the field, but using a loophole to get Kennedy on the field unless Couch magically gets elevated. Also may be able to get Bugg on the field in the backs.
So currently my avg is 83.5 for the 2 rooks, if i can get Kennedy on the field which is a 90% chance of happening, that'll be avg of 94 for 3 rookies.

Happy with that start, and happy i didn't panic and get goodes in before he 'tore GWS a new one'

Last night went moderately well for me:

Fielded
Bugg: 97
Shiel: 36 (should have left him benched, knowing he'd be likely to get red-vested).
McDonald: 98
Devon Smith: 69

Bench:
Giles: 77
Kennedy: 116 (hmmm... given I only wanted to have one GWS on the field, as I'm still toying with Porplyzia as F6, I don't think I could have done much. Could we have predicted that Kennedy would score 47 more than Smith?

I'm thinking the same, I have him as emergency up forward. Doubt the other forward rookies will score as much. Put in a 0, it burns a trade, but can't afford to put someone in that might score 30 and can use that trade to get in a rookie that has scored really well right before price rises.

So glad I loaded up on GWS rookies now. Thought I may have overdone it, but all looked very promising, even the ones who didn't score a lot last night.

On the field

Malceski 83
McDonald 98
Mumford 91
Goodes 84

=356

On the bench

Bugg (emer) 97
Townsend 42
D Smith (emer) 69
Shiel 36
Giles 77
Hampton 77
Kennedy (emer) 116

If Grimes doesn't play round one, I may pick him and get Bugg's emergency score. Same as in the forwards to get Kennedy's emergency score. Maybe someone like Kerridge or Zorko who might not play the first round but should play enough games to be decent cash cows...

What you need to take into account is opportunity cost.

There could be rookies in the other 16 teams that are looking to crack a ton.

Don't forget guys like Libba/Curnow last year.

I don't think any Saints fan could stay off Magner. He was holding our VFL team up last year.

It's certainly not out of the question that Couch gets elevated this week and plays round one. I was at Casey Fields last night watching our affiliate and Couch was just about best on ground in their two point win over Williamstown. He had a heap of it and was at the bottom of every pack. Was very impressive.

For sure. Magner is starting on the field for me even if he is named as the sub in Rd 1.

Not convinced that there are other backline & forward rooks that will crack the tonne in their first game though..at least the odds of them doing it are slim. So am keen to make Bugg & Kennedy's scores count.
