Unofficial Preview Round 1 Vs Giants - Saturday March 16

on the eve of offical praccy matches, I've updated my round 1 team after taking on board what I've seen and read, injuries, the players mvp's etc.

B. Comben Corr Goater

HB. Sheez Dawson Scott

C. Stephens LDU Tucker

HF. Sleevo Bull Curtis

F. Greenwood Larks Dursma

OB. Xerri Wardlaw Simpkin

Int. Powell Mckercher ???? ????

Sub. ???

- No Fisher, McDonald, Ford due to injury/preperation

- obviously Thomas is the big one. Even if he is still a north player then, and hasn't received a suspension, he'd be sub at best given his lack of prep

- Phillips and Lazzaro have had great pre seasons - they could take up the remaining bench spots or one might be a sub

Slight adjustment

B- Goater Dawson Corr

Hb- Kerch Pink Sheez

C- Stephens LDU Scott

HF- Simpkin Bull Sleevo

F- Powell Larks Curtis

Xerri Warlord Phillips

Lazz Comben Tucker McDonald

Sub - fisher (or coops, Bergs, Greenwood)

Not wanting to devalue Jy Simpkin here because it shits me when people do that but I'd like to see him in the Wing/HF rotation this year with time onball, with LDU, Phillips and Wardlaw all having more centre bounce attendances. Also want to see plenty of Powell and Lazzaro in there. Jy's got good evasion and ball winning skills but I think his athleticism and strength will serve us well on a wing, and he's a very good and underrated goal kicker. Also probably a good idea to keep him out of the place where he's always getting concussed for a while

Greenwood basically said that Simpkin has put his hand up for less centre square time and more flank time

I reckon Chom will be struggling to get a guernsey round 1 if all of Corr, Dawson and Pink are available.

Exchange him for Greenwood, I reckon.

If Coops keeps up that match sim standard against the Pies and the Saints, Curtis will probably start in the twos too.

Disagree on Curtis

But agree on Chom. I snuck him in there on the bench but I really wanted him at chf where he should be.

How early is too early to say a bloke isn't cut out to be a defender? He's such a natural forward player, but the idea of playing him there is terrifying

Terrifying is a bit OTT.

Let him play in defence until Logue gets back in round 10 I reckon.

It'd be the longest block of games he's had for years.

Alrighty, here's what I have as our Round 1 best 22 based on today's first hitout versus Collingwood and noting where certain players have lined up:

B: McKercher - Pink - Goater

HB: Sheezel - Corr - Dawson

C: Stephens - Wardlaw - B.Scott

HF: Powell - Zurhaar - Simpkin

F: P.Curtis - Larkey - J. Stephenson

R: Xerri - LDU - Phillips

INT: Fisher, Lazzaro, 1 of Shiels/Tucker, 1 of CCJ/Comben

Surprised myself with a few inclusions/omissions, but this seems to be close to what Clarko is heading towards IMHO.

Jy "only" had 14 touches, but 1 bad kick aside, I thought it was the most "useful" he's looked in a long time in that high half forward role.

He put on pressure, he pushed up as a plus 1. Was strong overhead when required and chopped out the CBA's when there was a gap in players getting gassed.

If he becomes our version of Schultz or Dylan Moore, that would be a huge win in a new role.

B Fish Pink Corr

HB Colby Dawson Sheez

C Scott LDU Stephens

HF Charlie L Zuhaar Simpkin

F Sleevo Larkey Curtis

OB Xerri Wardlaw Powell

Bench Goater Phillips Duursma

22-23rd spot no order.
Cal Coleman Not sold only in to chop Xerri out offers a long target ? Needs more output

Charlie comben Haven’t seen him play new role yet
Hardman Will play throughout year maybe starts in VFL
Luke McDonald experience player probably starts see how he goes with a quicker game plan.
Bigoa Nyuon Solid defender offers versatility in other roles as well could find his way in.
Liam Shiels experience player I think he should play most weeks.
Darcy Tucker haven’t seen enough yet to know what his output will be.

Should come up here to Sydney for it mate.

You can probably get $200 return flights from Tulla.

I'm frothing to witness the start of the new era in person.

Yeah but... Sydney.

Ew.

😉

I remember witnessing the start of the new era in person last year. Sounded like a lot more than 20k North fans when the siren went.

Hopefully it's for real this time

Me too.

Flew down to Melbourne and enjoyed the raucous start to a new era which lasted two weeks.

Yeah but... Sydney.

Ew.

😉
Look if enough of you bastards show up, we'll have a reasonable shot at outnumbering the Giants fans at their own ground.

Ford’s fitness levels might be an issue.

McDonald will play. Maybe even on the bench, but he'll play. On Greene, as well. He's played on him before and done it well, from memory.

HB: Sheezel Comben Fisher
C: Stephens LDU Scott
HF: Simpkin Zurhaar Powell

LMac was spanked by Greene last time. I would try Goater on him.

It will crazy to play a match unfit player in McDonald on Greene especially after having players miss out who have performed well in the inter club and match sim games.
But I expect because his captain he will play shouldn’t play but will and if things go pear shape someone will be made the scapegoat.
This club needs to start thinking for the NOW reward players that perform as we have new assistant coaches a new crop of young players that we are starting to mould as a team on and off the field and I don’t and I expect a lot of supporters of this club feel the same don’t want it destroyed by playing players because of a family name that has been at the club since the dinosaurs.
My opinion only McDonald is done and won’t just to our new style of play need to continue to play Goater Bergmann Fisher Sheezel Mckercher Archer in the back half then Stephens and Scott Lazzaro Phillips Wardlaw Simpkin LDU around the mid field area .
So I can’t see where here plays.
