I think this may be for those who opted out of the actual membership card & chose online membership instead. Hope so, because I hate having to rely on my phone. Always stresses me out something will happen to my phone & I won't have access to a ticket, lol.
Correct. 10% battery left = AAAAARRRGGGHHHH

McRae would not commit to persisting with Charlie Dean in defence after his challenging debut against the Giants, but even with Howe’s inclusion his height could be needed against a Swans forward line boasting three talls in Logan McDonald, Joel Amartey and Hayden McLean.

After performing strongly in the match simulation, McRae backed Howe for the Friday night clash provided his calf still felt fine on Thursday.

“We’re confident he got through … more than likely we’ll select him and then see how he pulls up,” he said.

Billy Frampton played as a forward alongside Ash Johnson in match sim, and McRae said the premiership player was in the frame for a recall, although he backed Johnson to hold his spot after he was held goalless from two disposals last week.

“I’ve always been a coach that likes to back people in, and give people the opportunity to go and be the best version of you,” McRae said.

“I’d like to think that we can move the ball slightly different and make Ash a better player.

“We had a lot of slow entries, which means he’s competing against four or five bodies versus one or two … we’ll see how that plays out.”

McRae also made a strong selection commitment to fringe midfielder Finlay Macrae, who could challenge Tom Mitchell for a midfield spot after the veteran was subbed out of the Giants clash.

“I like saying things out loud so people hear it and it holds me to account: we’re going to play Fin Macrae very shortly, whether that’s this week or next he’ll be playing … that puts pressure on me to pick him, doesn’t it,” he said.

“He’s someone we need to get into the team, so what capacity I’m not sure – I think it’s going to be hard to leave him out.”

Fly on Fin.

But after a disappointing Opening Round performance against Greater Western Sydney at Engie Stadium, McRae said it will be difficult not to select Macrae for the first time since the final home and away game of 2023.

"I wouldn't have thought he needs to do much more at all. It is going to be hard to leave him out this week. We have some decisions to make at match committee," McRae said.

"I’ve had this conversation with Fin: we need to get him in the team. I think it's going to be hard to leave him out (this Friday night)."

On TV it just looked like they were super organised defensively and when we did try to spot someone up we weren't good enough to - J Daicos being the exception a couple of times. I was a bit worried that the interrupted preseason may have left him struggling a bit this season - but he's just bloody good.

I don't think the loss was as bad as many others. They were really organised defensively and we were a bit of a shambles - giving up uncontested stuff when we shouldn't have - yet we still probably had a similar number of chances as them, but whereas they kicked the lights out, we couldn't put itl through the big sticks.

You’re right - GWS was very organised in defence - but we did very little to disrupt it. We were far too stationary. We didn’t block or run decoys for each other. We lacked repeated leading efforts. Those GWS defenders had the match entirely on their terms.

I also noticed that our forwards often pushed high up the ground but when we won the ball on the half-back line or in midfield, they were too slow to react and get back deep enough into the forward line to get in behind the GWS defenders or to turn and lead towards the ball carrier. AJ was a repeat offender. He was often caught running back towards the goal square with his back to the ball-carrier who was 60-70m from goal and looking to hit up a leading target. He needs to get back to the goal square a few seconds earlier so that he can turn, signal and lead into space to receive the pass. Checkers and Cox were guilty of it too but I noticed it most with AJ. By being out of position with backs to the ball, they gave the ball carrier few options other than to bomb it and hope for a miraculous pack mark, which never came.

Hopefully we see much more dynamic movement from our tall forwards against the Swans, who also have an excellent defensive unit.

We can’t have AJ stay, Frampton come in, Macrae play in the one side. There will be some outs.

I personally think once Macrae gets opportunity he’ll just hold his spot because he does undroppable things.

From Fly’s presser, sounds like AJ will be given another chance to impress against the Swans. If Frampton’s the alternative then AJ really must keep his spot. His best is soooo much better than Frampton’s (as a forward).

Was there no mention of Reef in Fly’s presser, or did I miss it? Can we read anything into that? What position(s) was he playing at training today?

Sounds like AJ gets another chance, with promised faster forward entries.

Dean - not sure - I can only assume his name was mentioned due to being asked whether Howe would take his spot. Have only read the article, not listened to the press conference.

Fin if you ask me... He's gonna be sub.

Spot on with your comprehension.

Let me articulate it for you a bit more clearly.

Ash is 26 or thereabouts, Reef 21. Ash has played 35 games and Reef 11.

Neither will come into the side as a focal point or prime mover, even though we need them to be. So we need somebody to play a team role.

Reef will at least go at it, AJ has been dropping marks and needs some time in the VFL. Reece has spent plenty of time in the VFL and could do with some exposure at AFL to see if he’s can realise some of his upside.

Pretty simple stuff, one will benefit from some exposure at AFL level, the other will benefit from some time at VFL level.
Both players deserve extended runs in the seniors to prove themselves.
Revolving door selection is just folly, and saps confidence.
If AJ fails after a decent run, then Reef gets his shot.

I got that too and I'm not sure what it means?

I have the ticket in my ticketek wallet so I assume that is the "upgraded" ticket?
First I have heard to this, would be great if this could've been communicated to members

Yeah I am not sure why I received it as I already have tickets (AFL member not upgraded ticket thou as I didn't think it applied to us).

Forward line was not great but if we kick straighter the result could have been different
And if our defence didn’t concede such soft easy looks doubt the Giants are that accurate again either
Yes, we even forgot to man the mark gifting them at least 2 easy goals.

No doubt, but we also need to devise ways to win games. No point in giving extended runs to anyone if we aren't able to win.
