Not really as confident as some above......I still think we will win by 4-6 goals

a new era sounds good!
win this and we're well on our way to top4 and a GF berth!? o_O
okay, we need a round 1 win to get this season cranking and set a different tone to last season.
with nearly everyone back on the park and seemingly in good shape, plus the new boys and those competing for top 22, we could be monsters this year..nicnats complete rehab from injury needs to be proven yet..
glass
natanui
lecras
rosa
masten
yeo
ellis
sheed
thats quite an injection..the coaches first game (cant wait to watch that unfold). expect the doggies have improved, and hoping Koby doesnt rip us up??- eagles by 36. (conservative guesstimation)

Amongst our losses last year the one against the bulldogs was one of our most disappointing especially as we were the best part of 4 goals up halfway through the 2nd then halfway through the last we were near on 6 goals down. Capitulation doesnt quite cover it and whilst murphy is a quality player we did sfa to stop him cleaning up across half back and setting up their attacks, the beneficiaries of which were a rampant luke dalhaus and quite unbelievably/unforgivingly Jarrad Grant ffs.

On a brighter note as has been alluded to we should be fielding a stronger side than that match with the definite changes as follows

Out - Carter, Smith, Dalziell, Wilson, Hams, Morton
In - Hurn, Ellis, Yeo, Shuey, Glass, Lecras

Fitness pending Naitanui may also come in for Lycett

One or two of Butler, Schofield and Hill may miss out for the likes of Rosa, Sheppard or Sheed to be selected but those changes are more a team balance issue and aren't likley to make a significant change in strength of the side like the definite changes do.

It's always dangerous making assessments on the first game of the season but a poor showing first up at home against a side that finished below us last season would not be a good sign for our prospects this season

Our edge in scoring power up forward coupled with it being a home game in warm conditions will be enough for us to win by around 4-5 goals

Every year the same thing happens. The Vics get out of the plane and are confronted with 35 degree heat and crap themselves.

Simpson was struggling with it in an interview last week - and he only had to talk and has had al summer to acclimatise

He was standing in mid afternoon full sun and sweating a bit so joked about it when questioned about moving the game back. Not sure if he was really struggling with it as such but that doesn't invalidate the point about how hard it is for Melbourne teams in particular to play in Perth on a warm day

a bit of poetic license doesn't go astray
