Now I know why I never watch this stuff, 10 minutes a year is enough. Absolute ****ing rubbish. 80% of players are wonna be blokes that haven't got the skill or composure of a junior footballer
I'm sorry the last win at 'The Cattery' you acknowledge was in 2006.
Enjoy the 98 VHS tonight too, definitely a good one!

Lost the players?

We have lost 6 games in two seasons with an average losing margin of 5 points per game.

Clearly any good judge can see that the coach has lost the players.

He hasn't lost the players. He is making tactical errors that will be exposed to a worse degree in finals

Good win but far-out we are hard to watch this year. Especially that first half. Our goal kicking this season is horrible. The umpiring is abysmal. This is the first year where I haven't bothered to watch most games live or go back and watch them later. Hard to imagine watching a team that doesn't regularly win when this is the standard.

Boy, ain’t this the truth… barely looked like she could play the code 🤢

She was awful today. Simply not ready to be playing. Honestly, missing her chance for her first AFLW goal by hitting the post was probably actually her best moment of the day. The idea that she was on the ground and Ballard was in the stands befuddles me. Hell, I would have taken Varnhagen over her today.

Geez, we've been served up some frustrating football the last month! Thank goodness for Gould, even though she's a crap kick (which the commentators seem shocked about every week, lol) at least she generates shots on goal from close range, and plays within her limitations. Nobody else seems to be able to do it. Even Hatchard's goal was a clanger, had Ponter free in the goal square, could have either kicked or handballed it to her, instead just burned her and rolled it along the ground, thank goodness it went through.

The umpiring was classic Kardinia Park bullshit, just an all-time rat**** performance from the mob in green. They should hang their heads in shame.

Prowse and Biddell, phenomenal effort. How good are they? Prowse made Moloney look second-rate, and Biddell just marks everything and uses it beautifully. And Sarah Allan looked good when she went down back, even when she didn't have a player. It's not that difficult guys, we won our last flag based on having a quality loose down back (Randall in that case), why not do it again? We can't seem to kick a winning score, so how about preventing them from scoring? Footy's just not that complicated.

Marinoff with another excellent game. I would go as far as to say she's just completed the finest H&A season of any player in the history of AFLW. Randall is desperate to win another flag, you can tell. Newman excellent as well. Hatchard had a decent game, although her disposal is simply baffling at times. Put Kelly in that category as well. Jess Allan with another quality ruck performance.

Shame about Ponter, hopefully it's a short-term thing. We've carried her for most of the season because she is such an important big-game player, it would be a shame for her to miss the big games.

Anonymous games from Kustermann, Martin, and Levy. (And Allen, but I've already potted her performance.) Levy seems to thrive in close contested games, but in more open games like this one she just can't get involved with her lack of pace. It was painful watching the ball go to space with her nearby, and a Geelong player just ran past her like she wasn't even moving. Kustermann I like as a player, but I couldn't even tell you where she's playing at the moment. And Martin tried hard, but her most effective pressure acts today were spoiling Marinoff and blocking one of our I50 entries. Sadly, the cupboard is a bit bare for replacing them, especially if Ponter is injured.

Great to have (almost certainly) locked away the double chance. Who knows, maybe things will finally come together when it really counts? But I doubt it. Another qualifying loss, semi win, and prelim exit for my money.

We'll win a semi against Freo/Essendon. That's it though.
I'm not saying this will happen but we could lose the first final win the second and face hawthorn who we beat quite easily early in the season.

We could quite easily arse our way into the GF.

Am I missing something?

Ask a Crows fan tomorrow when was the last time the Crows won at Geelong, and they'll say about 2003.
Good luck to the woman's team and I hope they do well, but at the end of the day who really gives a ****

Hawthorn will likely lose to Brisbane in the QF and end up facing North in the prelim.

True, but you never know.

Certainly. And it's not outside of the realm of possibility that we somehow get up over North and end up in the box seat ourselves.

But you'd have to think the odds are pretty high that it ends up being North vs Hawthorn, Brisbane vs Adelaide for the two prelims.

I don't think we can play all of Mueller, Tonon and Allen in the side in addition to the talls of Prowse, Biddell and Allan. Obviously the latter three play.

Najwa Allen is not a forward. We tried to hide her there and it didn't work. Can't play Sarah Allan forward either but at least she's good back

Tonon is an outside player and shouldn't be playing defense. Really struggles to actually defend especially in the air.

Mueller well below her best this season.

We need to replace some of those medium defenders with attack off half back

I'm sure this is the case for most teams given the state of the competition but I reckon we only have 13 players actually up to the standard required on the entire list

Marinoff, Hatchard, Randall, Biddell, Gould, Prowse, S. Allan, J. Allan, Newman, Ponter, Charlton, Kelly and Goodwin.

Maybe Thompson sneaks into that group (she was there based on past form) and I have hope for Kustermann and Boileau. Jones obviously injured.

So every week we are going to have a fair few anonymous performances and we really heavily rely on individual brilliance from those in the group I mentioned, rather than structural wins or tactics

SLT has been pretty good this year, albeit she was down today. I'd put Mueller in the list as well.

Najwa Allen has looked good in the past, but was clearly enormously underdone tonight. Munyard has been a bit better this season, jury is still out on her for me. Her improved pace has been a welcome surprise this season.

But I agree, our team is, by and large, carried by a small number of very good players. Marinoff/Hatchard/Allan in the midfield, Biddell/Prowse/Allan down back, Kelly/Newman on the wings, and Gould up forward (+ Ponter when she's playing well, which is not this year). And Randall wherever she plays in any given week.

Even the likes of Charlton, Goodwin, etc are good but they're just playing bit part roles, and they've had some poor performances along the way.

I reckon that the best teams (North, Brisbane etc) have a much better "bottom six" than we do. But our core spine is as good as any going around.

Or…….the other teams are improving and we have not had access to any potentially elite young players in recent years.

Our best half dozen are very good but we drop off alarmingly. Marinoff, Hatchard, Randall and Biddell do most of the heavy lifting. Ponter is great when she is on, Sarah Allan has struggled following her injury last year and we really miss the spark of Eloise Jones. We rely on Gould to kick most of our goals and Jess Allan wins the ruck but doesn’t have enough influence around the ground.

We do have some good young women who have improved this year but we need more quality in attack. Clarke has tried Randall, Biddell, Allan, Hatchard and Jones in attack but they are all better on ball or in defence.

What coaching moves would you suggest?

Aren't we playing a VFL favourite in a Melbourne prelim in that scenario?
