Ask a Crows fan tomorrow when was the last time the Crows won at Geelong, and they'll say about 2003.
Good luck to the woman's team and I hope they do well, but at the end of the day who really gives a ****

I saw the Crows beat Geelong at Kardinia Park in early 2020

Yeah it was AFLW and I ****ing loved it - Been down there plenty of times and that's the only win I've seen

I cherish it as much as any Crows win

Anonymous games from Kustermann, Martin, and Levy. (And Allen, but I've already potted her performance.) Levy seems to thrive in close contested games, but in more open games like this one she just can't get involved with her lack of pace. It was painful watching the ball go to space with her nearby, and a Geelong player just ran past her like she wasn't even moving. Kustermann I like as a player, but I couldn't even tell you where she's playing at the moment. And Martin tried hard, but her most effective pressure acts today were spoiling Marinoff and blocking one of our I50 entries. Sadly, the cupboard is a bit bare for replacing them, especially if Ponter is injured.
There was also that moment in the 3rd where Martin just randomly kept on running after the ball after Ponter had grabbed it just inside 50 and Martin just ran straight into her and dispossessed her, has absolute tunnel vision. Also she isn’t alone in doing this but she also always does that really annoying thing where if a teammate is under pressure from an opponent or getting tackled instead of stopping and standing a few metres away from them so she can be used to get a handball out she instead just runs into the contest instead & ends up being totally useless.

I understand Marino has had a huge year and is getting better than just accumulating possessions and tackles although a lot are 2 nd tackles .
But how could she be our best player ahead of Gould and Biddell who won the game for us and even thought Hatchard had a better 4 qtr game than Marinoff, though still struggle to understand why Hatchard doesn't have more impact with her size and ability apart from some strong marking especially with her disposal.
Often on here I have read how bad umpiring was against us and thought poster was over reacting but that umpiring last night was disgusting biased matched by biased commentators .

I'm sure this is the case for most teams given the state of the competition but I reckon we only have 13 players actually up to the standard required on the entire list

Marinoff, Hatchard, Randall, Biddell, Gould, Prowse, S. Allan, J. Allan, Newman, Ponter, Charlton, Kelly and Goodwin.

Maybe Thompson sneaks into that group (she was there based on past form) and I have hope for Kustermann and Boileau. Jones obviously injured.

So every week we are going to have a fair few anonymous performances and we really heavily rely on individual brilliance from those in the group I mentioned, rather than structural wins or tactics

One of the players I have hopes for is Tonon. This year she seems to have put on a bit more size and seems to be able to hold her own both in her marking and in the penetration and accuracy of her kicks. By no means the finished product at this stage but I think she may be valuable as another forward or flanker, and I hope next year would add to that “up to the standard group”. She’s still pretty young.

Imho the standard has lifted enormously since the first season. Easy marks were regularly dropped, few players could hit a target by foot and handball was an afterthought. We won the first premiership by simply forcing the ball forward by any means possible plus we had two players who were much better than almost everyone else (Randall and Phillips).

Most teams now have a couple of genuinely elite players and the depth of talent wins matches. We need more top level midfielders with pace and skill to defeat the Kangaroos and Brisbane. Similar to the rest of the competition, our game style has evolved but a few players who are below the standard required really let us down.

Think the forward line is the biggest priority, the Jones injury has highlighted how thin we are up there. Outside of Gould we have no marking targets, hence constantly having to plug Hatchard/Randall up there when they’re more suited elsewhere. The small forward situation is even worse as we’re stuck between Martin & Waterhouse who barely merit opposition attention, such is their lack of scoring threat.

on a side note I have to commend Geelong taking on the game last night at every opportunity rather than park the bus like most teams seem to do against Adelaide

The finishing from both teams wasn't the best but as a spectacle it was much better than some of the defensive slogs we've seen this season

2nd tackles don't count towards the stats. But they are useful in their own right.

There is definitely an argument for both Gould and Biddell last night, and Prowse. Gould frustrates me at times with how easily she goes to ground and lets her opponent run off her, but there's no denying that she was our only functional forward last night and we would have been easily beaten without her. And both Biddell and Prowse were almost flawless last night, with only one or two miskicks marring their stats sheet, while stifling one of the most dangerous forward lines in the league.

Marinoff was fantastic through the midfield though, and just grinds opposition midfields into the dirt, even midfields as star-studded as Geelong's. She was a big reason that Geelong started making errors towards the end of the game.

Hatchard managed to get fairly involved in the game last night, but her disposal let her down badly. I can at least understand a shank occasionally, that happens, but she often seems to get the ball, survey the situation, and then make the worst choice possible. Just pinpoints an opposition on their own, or puts the ball in a place that no teammate can possibly win it, or personal "favourite", gives a high loopy handball to an outnumbered teammate. I don't understand it because she wasn't doing that back in 2019-22, but she certainly has the last couple of seasons. Of course, despite all that she's still one of our better players - I'm always marking Hatchard on a separate scale than most players because of who she is and how good she can be.
