There are some valid reasons for the last two losses away especially Pies and we are definitely not the same team (arguably much improved) when we played Crows last year or preseason. The Crows are more or less the same?View attachment 2000962
We are fielding an older, more experienced side than Adelaide.
Of the 17 players 26 (or about to turn 26) and above on our list, all but two are playing today - Gaff who’s no longer best 22 and Flynn who’s returning from injury
With the exception of Flynn and Allen, there’s no one unavailable that would significantly improve today’s team. Long, Hewett and perhaps Petruccelle are probably best 22 but they’re not head and shoulders above the players they’d replace. The others on our injury list (Bazzo, Barnett and Jamieson) aren’t best 22
Our biggest problem is our away form which has been pretty dire, especially in comparison to what we’ve shown at home
Losses of 50 (Port), 76 (Bulldogs), 37 (Suns) and 66 (Collingwood) plus a 26 point loss to Sydney at a neutral venue in gather round (which was our best performance away from home) don’t inspire confidence
Like us, Adelaide have had a difficult fixture so far with only one game out of ten being against a side outside the top 12. And like us, they’ve only won 3 games (plus a draw) although their losses have been by much smaller margins
No Rankine with the ongoing absence of Thilthorpe, Worrell and Milera helps a little but they still have a midfield that’s troubled us in recent games
And Walker
His record against us wasn’t particularly special prior to 2023 (25 goals from 13 games) but he filled his boots with 19 goals in our two matchups last year.
Be nice if we can shut him down along with our usual Crows nemesis, Darcy Fogarty
If our forwards can get enough supply, Waterman and co are capable of kicking a winning score. If he can slot a Michelle, he’ll be the outright Coleman leader. Go Jake
Seems like a game we can win on a ground we used to play well at before turning to s**t. However, this is a must win game for Adelaide if they want to keep their slim finals hopes alive
We could be in 13th after this round if we win with consecutive home games against St Kilda and North to follow
Go Eagles
Danger game
West Coast by one Coleman and a rising star
How fast is Dawson?Dom actually played really well against Oliver- nullified him. Could be an idea for Dom as a role?
not veryHow fast is Dawson?
Might be enough to just have someone near Dawson all day so he becomes a much less attractive option to pass toDawson’s marking strength would be a concern against Sheed
Ginbey did some tagging roles last year. He'd be a nightmare if he was tagging you, as he's massive and quick.Dawson’s marking strength would be a concern against Sheed
Prefer Ginbey on Dawson than Sheed - be like chalk+cheese!Ginbey did some tagging roles last year. He'd be a nightmare if he was tagging you, as he's massive and quick.
this feels like a free throw at the stumps imo.
We aren't gonna realistically make the 8 and we aren't as bad as last year so just throw the kitchen sink at it today and it could be a bloody entertaining game between 2 decent sides to watch.
Got a little beer buzz going and Ready to sit in the sun at AO and enjoy it...
