We won't win a premiership before JK, Lecca, Priddis, etc... Retire. Not with that pathetic excuse of a midfield. The recruiters completely f**ked this team over after Judd and Cousins left.

Because we can't lure any A grade mids over here or back home, in the case of P. Cripps. It's going to take a while to rebuild this midfield or at least just add what's missing, I have full confidence in the drafting of key forwards and defenders, and half backs, the small / medium forward recruitment is a worry though, we seem to draft small mids in hope they can turn into a small crumbing forward like Neates and Karpany. But they need to refresh that midfield, as much as I love Shuey, he was a non factor today, I don't think Gaff should have come back in this week. And Redden needs to find form in the WAFL. and those ripping on NN, Lycett was probably just as quiet today. It was probably his first meh game for the season.

Played like a bunch of dickheads today.
I'm bonafide genuinely befuzzled that we didn't give Harley Bennell a look in last year.

Sure he has baggage but so did Darling, didn't stop us drafting him.

Nic Nat was a total liability today

Does nothing other than taps

Which would be fine if he had anyone to tap it to. Bloke had his nose broken half way through the game and was getting nothing from the little blokes in return for doing his job in winning hitouts, he struggled but unlike the other 21 he at least had a excuse.

Bennell isn't even playing so its a non issue

I wonder if considering Fremantles complete lack of tall key position players and our complete lack of decent midfielders whether they would be keen on a strait swap of Mitch Brown or Schofield for Michael Barlow, with Bennell there long term Barlow is clearly headed for the trade table. A mid season draft would be sooooo good.

Also Lycett divulged during his interview that Nic was a very sore boy, even before the broken nose. Think I heard where his ribs were strapped.

i dont care ho bad is lucas and colledge they surely cant be worst than masten. time to drop his ass. i really cant see how lucas could possibly be worse.

We'll finish top 4... but that game was embarrassing - so many mistakes from us resulted in goals for them. So many fumbles. Plus no one wanted to pick up the ball. Everytime the ball spilled over a pack, we had no one to pick it up. Bad playing, bad coaching, no intensity
The problem appears to be that away from home they lack confidence - all in the mind though.

Watch the WAFL.

Then you'll see.

As happy_eagle saud, Darling was more school related issues and real minor bs compared to Bennell but in saying that, I would have backed the club in to keep him out of trouble. Our culture is better off-field these days, he could have been vital to our premiership campaign.
I played against him in school footy and although it was only school footy he used to tear teams apart. Would start as the ruckman, tap it to himself, split the middle, run i50 and kick the goal, almost every centre bounce he was apart of started that way. Not saying he could replicate it AFL level, just more that I've seen his talent up close and it's something very special. We currently lack that kind of X factor through the middle and there's no doubt he could have brought it.

I want to see us go hard at guys like Cripps, Martin, O'Meara (despite his injury concerns) etc... once they're out of contract, but start getting into their ear during the season, not in the two weeks we have during trade week(s). We need a genuine big mid, they obviously were hoping it would be Yeo, but he hasn't shown much in the midfield this season or at all really. Simmo says Priddis needs help in the midfield, I disagree, IMO it's Shuey that needs help, he's the only match winning mid we have atm, we have guys like Hutch, Sheed and Redden to help Priddis. But no other line breaking attacking mid like Shuey with elite foot skills or anyone who can just run over opposition mids. I feel like our centre bounces are weakened when Gaff goes in there, I think he needs to stay purely as a winger, especially this season, looks to have been taking pointers from Priddis, regarding his kicking. They need to get Wellingham in more centre bounces and tell him to smash blokes about like he did Hodge in the GF last year and today on the HBF. Adds pace, aggression and a bit of size in the middle.

There was a moment there in the last qtr where it was LeCras and two bulldogs players, and LeCra saunted over to it. He could have easily claimed it, gone into the middle and hit up a presumably defenceless forward line. Just that lack of initiative and drive to go for the risky opportunities pisses me off endlessly about this team. We haven't got a star studded midfield so we have to take chances and different avenues. We did it well last year, but this year it's like the playing group is just waiting for it to happen. They're too casual around the contest.
Makes you wonder if there's trouble within the camp taking into consideration they don't seem to want to work for each other? Last year was so completely different and it was a delight to see.

I was wondering the same, perhaps a bit of the blame game was going on after last years grand final? But another thing I've noticed is this whole "Unity" thing, the coaching group really seem to be about it, the players mention unity in their press conferences sometimes but on a few Instagram posts you see some players using the word in what could be read in a sarcastic kind of way.

I think we just had an easier draw last year. Remember how pathetic we were in the first derby? We're not badly placed at present, still well in the mix for top 2. Hopefully we can build some momentum, and we might not have the hawks to contend with. Everyone else is beatable (for us) at the G.

The Roey (Roebuck Hotel) But god lord. Don't where your Bulldog guernsey there

I'm not joking by the way.....
Thanks for your candour wraglesweb. I walked through the Roey to get from Cable beach bus stop to Town beach bus stop. It was just like a western, when the stranger walks into the saloon. You're right, if I'd worn a dogs shirt I'd be up on the hangin' tree now. But Broome is pretty interesting.

we are indian cricket team mate. we dont lose on home turf
No such thing as a certainty. I'm sure Adelaide may have had a loss on their home turf this year and they also are hard to beat at home. I can remember last year just after the Phil Walsh tragedy that Adelaide stayed with us until after half time. With the emotion on the day easy to understand why they fell away. But no such thing this time and don't forget Pyke will know our players weaknesses etc. As long as our players don't just think it will happen and turn up to play for FOUR quarters (which they haven't done much of this year - even with our wins at home) then I think it will be a close game, with the Eagles getting up. FINGERS CROSSED:). I will make a prediction that we will win by 7 points but not with too much confidence! At least this time they will probably get tested at home which will be good for them, as this year at home have mainly played weaker teams.

I get the impression there is a bit of frustration behind the scenes with how the team is going this year. Have listened to a couple of the podcasts that Schofield and Buttman do and they are actually a pretty good window into what's going on with the playing group, openly discuss things that happen on match day and around the club that you just wouldn't hear about. A couple of episodes back, I think following the Geelong game, Schofield gave an account of sitting on the bench next to Luke Shuey when Le Cras missed than set shot from 15 out directly in front of goal [was that the Geelong game?] and the Shue had what sounded like an expletive filled hulk rage attack about how poor it was.

Not a good week to bring it up considering Shuey missed a regulation snap for goal in the first qtr agains the Bulldogs yesterday that cost us, but Shuey's effort it there. Its impossible to think there wouldn't be a lot of players frustrated at how the team has responded to the GF loss given the way we've been playing, plenty of passengers in the side and it would absolutely shit the blokes who are actually trying to have to step onto the field with them week in and week out with no changes coming from the coaches box.

I might have to start listening to the podcast again, I think I recall Lecca missing one either last week or the week before directly infront. I don't blame Shuey though, I love Lecca but his out put this year has been pretty bad besides a few games here and there. But at the same time he's not the only one. And they can't drop him because theirs no one in the WAFL atm that can replace him thanks to the steller job the recruiters have done in addressing our lack of dangerous small / medium forwards. And tbh there really isn't any players I'd feel comfortable with coming into the side and replacing best 22 players like Lecca. Colledge, Lucas, Tunbridge, Karpany, wouldn't add any thing to the team nor would I expect them to have any influence on the game as we've all seen in them in the WAFL, so if the guys, like you believe are frustrated with the coaches for not making the changes, then they need to direct that frustration elsewhere. Because our depth really isn't that impressive. Ellis, McGinnity, Lucas, College, Bennell, McInnis, Jetta, Brown, Giles & Tunbridge, they've all played at the top level and tbh there's only 3 or 4 i would feel comfortable with replacing a best 22 player which is pretty bad. I only named those guys above because they're the ones you'd expect to have an impact at AFL level, if not at least play their role, which I don't believe many would be successful in doing.

But back to the original subject, They don't look to be playing for each other this year that's for sure, it was noticeable from round 2 IMO. They also seem very fragile, mentally. Time to get up to speed with Sydney and employ a psychologist (if that would help, of coarse)

I actually think Hill is being used now in the push up into midfield role Le Cras has/is supposed to play so it doesn't have to be someone outside the best 22 in a direct replacement situation. Ellis needs to come back into the side which would free Wellingham from the web and he could play forward/mid for a week while Le Cras has a spell. I'm not talking permanent here, when you drop senior players who've lost form its designed to sting them in the guts, give them something to think about for the weekend watching the team play and motivate them to turn their form around and come back in quickly. Being in bad form and playing every week is arguably more damaging to a players confidence than getting briefly dropped as a circut breaker that allows you to refocus and get your head back into gear.
