Autopsy Round 13, 2013 - Hawthorn v Eagles

Or imagine the grand final if someone lost their footing in the goal square at let through an easy goal at a critical moment..

Yes, I was going to mention exactly that moment as well. If that was Hodge or Guerra, they throw themselves at the ball and the man, lock it down, Jack doesn't get the goal and we possibly win. Clutch moments can cost an entire season's work, and cost you the ultimate success.

Anyway, I still think Hill will be an excellent player, probably just needs a little extra work in the weights room over summer. Give him just that slight touch of bulk that Cyril has, without effecting his speed.

I've been holding off saying this, but I can't bite my tongue any longer. Is it fair to say that, and putting it politely, Brad Hill does not have an 'appetite for the contest'?
He needs to sleep with the night light off !

Still very good player just needs to toughen up.

Just some thoughts after watching the replay:

Guerra was bloody good last night. Still not using it perfectly but he was our physical benchmark after Hodge was last week. Got laid out quite a few times but punished quite a few Eagles with bumps and savage tackles. Two good ones in a row and fair to say his death was well and truly exaggerated on this board.

Lake's second quarter was phenomenal. We are seeing first-hand what has made him such a great player for the Doggies. He is not without chinks but he can dominate his third of the ground for entire quarters and with that wall up we have the talent to cash in. Last week's third Q was another case in point.

I have been a knocker of Savage but as has been noted he looked very good last night. If he can show that kind of zip and physical presence every week then he will keep his spot. Was willing to hit the contest with purpose which is something I do not believe he has done previously. If that continues then he provides a point of difference to Smith and should be selected ahead of him.

Finally I am very happy with what Simpkin is giving us. While no longer racking them up he is still having a meaningful impact against better sides. He is uncanny with his ability to hit up forwards and he sticks his tackles. Though he is 25 we are still seeing development in his game the more he is exposed to this level. I can't really fault any of his performances to date and see him as best 22 at this stage.

I'll tell you something Boofhead, McKenzie would piss in a game for your lot and I'll tell you something else, Fatty Franklin won't be in a Hawthorn jumper next year. What's more your mob will have to make a decision before the finals as to whether you keep playing him or you give him the arse.

Bwahahaha throwing your toys out of the cot has just made my day.

Your team is rooted Ted38, a bunch of soft **** wannabes and passed it old men, now **** back off to the special needs class.

Neither did kosi,Gilbert, fisher or Lenny Hayes

I'm not understanding what point you are trying to make here dude. Yes, both teams were missing a few in the Saints V Eagles game, but the point our previous poster was making was that the Eagles were probably as strong a lineup against us as they have had all year.

On top of that we were missing Rioli, Schoey, Suckling, Whitecross, Puopolo, I Smith, and you could throw in Anderson:thumbsu:

Anyway - little guys need exposure to be big guys.

Hill is being worked out a bit by the opposition - they know he will try and sidestep, so they don't overcommit to the tackle and he's tying himself up in knots. He'll get better - he's a really promising player.

As for the big dance - if Savage can make his performance last night his standard then he gets in and smith/hill can nettle it out for the other wing.

Would love to see smith hit a new level.
Spot in RE- Someone falling over in the goal square in a crucial time in a GF...
Wonder where that someone is now..
Hill has shown he deserves to be on our best 22 and if it wasn't for him in a few close games we may had lost.

Haven't seen it mentioned at all, but does anyone else believe Sam Mitchell was sling-tackled last night? He came out of it with a sore back from the looks of things. Can't remember exactly when it happened - third quarter maybe?

He was slammed but was only given a 'helping hand' imo as the momentum was all his. Nothing in it.

Just wanted to post a congratulations to Shane Savage. Was very good last night, hope he can keep it up. That effort on the wing that started with a smother was just brilliant, really important consider Puopolo (our main 1% man) was out. Roughead and Gunston were brilliant too, that goes without saying.

Did see him lay a great tackle in the middle of the ground on Kerr, just wish he did more of it during games. Still raw and with a few more pre seasons and games under his belt, I am sure the physical side of him will come out!

What about when Savage showed a great second effort to nail that tackle on Kerr, won the free kick for holding the ball and then got right in Kerr's face. It was really unexpected - he was surging!
Loved it! :thumbsu:
I hope he plays with that intensity for the rest of the season

There is nothing more I would love to see is Port beat Swans..Swans are only 4 pts ahead..Come on Port..I thought the Swans were THE best team in the AFL! All the commentators raved on and on by them, the worst being Roos, and Healy..The Swans will take out the cup, according to the so called "experts":p

They probably are the best team at the moment
Why does it matter what other people say?

Holy crap, on the Weagles board they think they got shafted by the umps!!
Cost them 4 goals or something.

When are they going to realise that they won't get the biased Subiaco armchair ride crap over here in Melbourne?
20 - 13, last 3 goals from free, and still complaining

The only time I can remember a coach cracking it about an off the ball incident was Schwabby the time Jess Sinclair elbowed Lance Picionie at Docklands in about 2003
That was one of the worst in history. My mrs worked with Lance's mum at the time. He was in extreme pain for over 3 weeks. The bone between the nose and teeth fractured. OUCH.
